Damn, I picked the wrong night to go out!! EL or PL, my favourite rant!!!!

You used to have to have EL with PL because you can't (by HSE quidelines) work without someone else on site, therefore if you think your are a big enough concern to have PL then you must therefore Need EL and that was how it was.

Then, insurance companies realised that some people (lots of them), who call themselves "subbies" were of the opinion that they were a big enough concern to need PL, even though they were too stupid to realise that they were the "other poeple on site" so insurance companies started selling PL without EL, and the extra revenue has brought my costs down so thanks you muppetts!

What was the question again?

There is also the occasional situation where you get a small business made up of 2 guys in a partnership. They only need PL as they cannot sue themselves if they are injured. The 2 guys I knew of who worked this way had good personal accident insurance, but I felt that they would have been better (cheaper) with a Ltd company and decent EL cover.

slightly off topic, as most of you know im a freelance climber, but do on occassion make use of a groundsman. i paid for my employers liability last year grudgingly knowing that id only actually be employing people for a few days of the year. didnt find out till this renewal, that you can actually cover yourself for a period of 50 days per year for employers liability. saved me a fortune on my premiums this year.

That is VERY well worth knowing

Bit like limited mileage insurance for classic cars.
