Ian, a slight derail but closely related... have you any experience of turning Catalpa? I have some at 20" diameter and can't persuade unadventurous turners to try it though I did find an American reference to it that highly praised it for turning.

No I have never tried it but would try anything once :001_smile:, has it been down for long ??. Have you contact Frans Brown to see if he is interested.

He might know someone, he does have interesting bits he had a big piece of box from me in exchange for loads of turning stuff. Once I've got myself sorted and conversion finish i might be interested in some, will be a month or two tho.

I'll hang onto it then Ian; no probs. I'd rather have it hang around a while for such use than log it up just to get it out of the way.

I should have a bit of spare time in a few weeks I'll make a video, always the best way to learn I think.
