  1. Past hour
  2. Yeah man stoke is no problem thanks for that greatly appreciated ill give them a bell
  3. Lutons. One of my first end-client jobs years ago. No recollection how I got it. Dense as darkness thirty-five foot tall conifer. Couldn't get a farmer to leave a trailer so hired a Luton and stacked the whole thing in the back. FULL. To the roof. Horrendously hot day. Spent half of it putting my head under the outside tap. Anyway. Got it done and got it home. It unloaded surprisingly easily and was smoke in the next ten minutes. Blew the van out and had it back at the hire place for 19:00. £350 from the client. £120 for the van. £30 fuel etc. £200 for me. I'd arrived.
  4. That needs to travel in a luton van and come down on the tail lift. If you're not doing tree work with a luton then who the fyuck are you!
  5. Not a clue. I suffer from a severe financial limp. I do tree work for the babes.
  6. The gl&d wee chipper is expensive for the build quality but performance wise she puts a smile on my face every time I take her out. Just cant beat gravity and a feed roller!
  7. That is some strong guff. Are they really that good?
  8. Try again. Mick's been climbing for over 60 years. Did 20 years as a groundy before that. I live with a 6 year old who'd mop the floor with you as far as humility is concerned... Around £3,500 for the basic 4 that most people seem to care about. Mike's idea is a solid one. You get a feel for a few companies, they get to guage your worth. I wouldn't ever volunteer a day for free mind. If you're willing to do that you're setting a terrible precedent.
  9. We'd be reasonably secure either way. What sort of income would you expect I'd be earning? This is all good input, I appreciate it.
  10. There's cake business and cake business btw. Does she advertise on the local facebook groups or have a contract with Heathrow? One of you is probably going to need a real job. Unless you're otherwise secure for shelter and nutrition. A lot of arb is unreliable and a lot of arbs are self employed and at the mercy of it. There is employment of course. Couldn't tell you a lot about that though. I'm fairly unemployable.
  11. Monkey Puzzle takedowns are like War stories, never a good 1! Evil trees!
  12. you joeboo owners are used to such poor performance I'm not surprised, when you run a high performance unit like the CS100 the tiniest change seems huge, like a race horse or formula 1 car!
  13. Picture from first page you should try very quick bit expensive
  14. And there wasn't as much call for that in upland Cumbria as in south Oxfordshire. It's all coming together.
  15. We did a biggy a while back. It was hard to see just how dead it was from looking from below. The sticky resin was horrible on ropes etc, made devices almost inoperable! Spikes were not bad for the climber as not many spikes close into the stem. just an arse for the guys on the ground feeding the chipper. Millions of spiky dead hard leaves to try to clear up. Old wax jacket worked a treat.
  16. Regretfully not- she runs her own cake business.
  17. Thanks, that's good knowledge. I guess one of the main questions is the money front- what do you call really decent money? 25k, 30k? More? Less?
  18. Thanks, really interesting to know how you approach yours
  19. I’m using it tomorrow so I’ll try and remember to take some pictures of the underside but I think it is very similar to the cs100 so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same fitting. The rotating chute is useful and has never blocked on me but I haven’t tried pointing it at right angles to the machine. The game changer for me is the tracks and its small size. Such a useful little machine.
  20. Today
  21. I thought that. We've forgotten to ask the most important question though. OP, Is your wife either a nurse or a primary school teacher? It's part of the uniform for tree blokes in the UK.
  22. I think you are right that some of your priorities knowledge will be helpful. You won't be fast at anything that takes years to build up speed on. Crown reduction, section fells, job planning etc. You can't teach that on courses, you only get the basics, the very bare bones that take years to flesh out. I don't know the cost of all the tickets you will need, however why not volunteer for a few days at a few firms. Talk rates with the lads and see if it's for you?
  23. Flock storage: Audio boffin encodes data in a starling • The Register WWW.THEREGISTER.COM : Birdsong stores 176 KB, but can it run Doom?
  24. Thinking how do to get the job done in the quickest time. That takes experience. You sound like a pretty switched on bloke, and the ag background means you’ll be a pretty practical sort. You’ll pick it up pretty quick. As others have said though if you’re chasing really decent money do something else.
  25. SCHLIESING 175 MX 6" Wood Chipper, | eBay UK EBAY.US Schlieisng 175 MX for Sale (trade in machine). This machine has been maintained and regularly serviced, its ready to go and work. Over run clutch (fully serviced). schliesing 175
  26. What tickets would you suggest then? I've experience of SRT in a caving/climbing context, so some of that will be familiar, which I'd think would be helpful. What aspects do you think I won't be as fast at?
  27. I remember being exactly like that,, give it 22 more years it starts to slow you down a little
