  8. Ash?
  9. Can any of you knowledgeable people identify this wood for me. TIA.
  10. Hi there, We are a home with a wood burner that needs to be fed! Driveway is two cars wide but will need some slight manoeuvring to get in depending on how large your vehicle is. Happy to have it dumped in the driveway and we will move it out the back on the weekend. Just need some warning so we can get cars out before the delivery
  11. There was a reason I had it briefly,it didn’t do what a mog does. mogs have Ptos, pto chippers were always a 3rd the price of rd tow, run it on cherry, free rd tax no Mot or tacho hassle. If by looking at 1 you can’t see the benefits then don’t bother buying 1, it’s not for you.
  12. Sorry I missed all the messages. I've gone ahead now and ordered a Peterson 10" WPF due for delivery in May.
  13. For completeness....here are the bar/chain specs for the 550i if anyone is interested. Four different bar/chain combinations, two in full chisel and two in semi-chisel in either 1.3 mm or 1.5 mm gauge. When Mick gets his bigger battery, technically it could carry a 20" bar and chain!!!! For how long though....who knows?

  15. Quite. Don't let the books suggest that pinpoint pH is vital. What's more important to the OP than slight acidity is drainage; walnuts won't stand in wet ground.
  16. may as well spam the page with something I can't afford - Iveco Daily 4x4. No PTO for chipper, but good road speed and handling. Would need to be more than 3.5ton to get any payload. So presumably an operating licence. Never seen one, only the one Stephen Blair on here had briefly.

Happy to take unseasoned logs that need splitting that are suitable for the log burner will cover fuel, and provide some refreshments. Happy to make a donation as well
  18. I love this little scene. Watch David Jason struggle not to laugh at Uncle Albert.
  19. One amendment i would make to the above post is that the 542i seems to be sold as standard in the UK with SP33G in 1.3 gauge needing a 4.8 mm file, that is how i have seen it and used it.....however.....it can come with SP21G in 1.1 gauge needing a 4 mm file. That may, perhaps, be the standard sold in France so bear that in mind as regards my last point above and my apologies if that is the case as it undermines some of the last points made as regards the bar and chain set ups between the 542i and 550i being interchangeable. They are...but only at 1.3 gauge. Personally having used the 542i with the 1.3 gauge chain, the clutch gave it the grunt to chog through what i was cutting with no problems at all and i think a 1.1 gauge on it is a waste on a saw of that calibre.
  20. Thanks all for the feedback. Looked at the cheapies on Amazon, but not overly enthused. Have found a very good second hand pair from someone selling their business. All sorted for now until I head back to Africa to recover all my gear! Cheers
  21. Thanks for the intel
  22. Morning all, someone in the UK has asked me about a magnolia growing right next to their house wall. It's a late 17th century, stone rubble building located in the Melksham area. The tree is approx 3.5m tall with a trunk circumference of 50cm. They want to remove the tree completely. The location is sighted as an area of subsidence risk - this would be my main concern, but I am not familiar with root swell on magnolias + these old houses have shallow, direct load foundations (effectively a trench filled with stone). I know it's not a big tree, but any advise would be welcome. Please see photos for reference. IMG_1016.HEIC IMG_1017.HEIC IMG_1018.HEIC
  23. Tip sites for logs. Great access, hard standing.
  24. The 542i comes as standard with X-Cut SP33G semi-chisel chain at .325 pitch and the groove width/drive link thickness is 1.3mm/.050". The 550i, it would appear as per Mark Skyland's post, comes as standard with X-Cut C33 full chisel, also at .325 pitch and 1.3mm/.050" groove width/drive link thickness. The only difference between the two is the cutter profile. Otherwise they are interchangeable between the two saws. If it was me i would be seeing how the 542i runs on the full chisel chain whilst waiting for the BX battery. I would also politely suggest as per your post on Thursday that you reevaluate your use of a 4mm file on the 542i's chain. Both the SP33G and C33 need a 4.8 mm file. Sorry.
  25. If you can run 2 vehicles that’s the route I’d go down, 4WD king cab tipper.
  26. Rough guide is 2t a acre to raise pH 0.5 & would need reapplying every few yrs. Walnuts may be ok anyway unless pH is very low if your soil type is suitable
  27. Sorry you had to lose it but it was the right choice.
