My Vice!!!

Any bright ideas on mounting a vice on a truck for ease of sharpening saws, and basic on site repairs?? I did have on mounted on the front bumper of my old series 3 Landy years ago but it looked dangerous and I wouldn't be happy to do it again. Needs to be accessible and mounted securely but not dangerous for pedestrians/ passers by

Thanks in advance :001_smile:

I have a receiver hitch bolted under my winch on my defender, I plan on making up a long tube that fits into this with a vice bolted on the end of it. I will probably put a couple of bends in the tube so that it sits at a nice height, not by my knees. Probably oonly any use if you have a winch though.

Just an idea but could you mount the vice on a strong magnet with a kind of swivelling bracket so you could just plonk it on the bonnet and take it off when you had finished? You could put a piece of colth between the magnet and vehicle to save scratching the paintwork. I have a worklight which is like this and it works very well

I think that one of our service vans has a piece of box section which slides out of the van with a vice on it. Not for right heavy use etc but that kind of thing could be mounted underneath a tipper body easily enough and be useful enough to sharpen a saw or hold things for smaller works.
