  1. It doesnt appear the soil level has greatly changed as you can see the buttress flare, But that is freshly dumped clay so perhaps the roots have been disturbed or cut. There are lots of old pruning, flush? cuts mid way up the trunk. Theres also bark damage quite low.
  2. I already have an Echo 2511 climbing saw. I like the idea of a spare clone for any abuse work but the ones on ebay at £200 are too much. I have bought from Farmertec before, and see they have added a clone G2511, works out £92 delivered.
  3. That will just ruin the rope putting twists in it and wearing it faster. You could swap to a rock climbing 8 decender or belay device but thats extra kit to carry about.
  4. I couldnt see any existing thread, what kit/saws have you bought recently? Arb stuff or anything interesting.
  5. You can do the same thing attaching any normal pulley, or just a carabiner to your harness bridge, tail of rope and sending down a loop. The problem is you need 3x your height in spare rope, and I'd rather use shorter ropes.
  6. Fit a hidden tank/filler and use the normal filler opening and tank as a urinal? That will give them a suprise.

    WOW

@Mark Bolam One of the UK's most significant trees? It was a relatively young sycamore. The only thing special about it was the location and peoples memories of it. Somone should grind out the stump and plant a nice oak in its place. Only Daniel Grahams, as he told on the other one. Not for protection from angry tree huggers.

    WOW

I would suggest 2 years suspended with a fine and large number of hours community service. The interesting thing is Grahams has been in custody since December for his own protection after being attacked?
  9. Quite enjoyed it to be honest. Thick leather gloves really helped for the brash dragging cleanup. Should have worn sleeves or a jumper but was too hot. I have thorns in the outsides of my elbows! More experience on a ladder which I'm not too good at, and got to properly use my newish hedge trimmers and pole chainsaw. However the hedge does look awful, holes everywhere, ivy has taken over and the old hedge has long rotted away in places. Best you can do with that..
  10. Hawthorne, chestnut, ash, ivy connifer mixed hedge today, look at those thorns!
  11. What remains of the tool, do you have a photo? Is it just the soft, lead? Face thats broke off? Whats the body made of, plastic or metal? LSE sell the screw in type made of plastic for roughly 24 pence. A pair of long forceps may be able to get in there, grab hold and pull it. If its not blocked and you can turn it to the ports open, get the exhaust off, and let it fall out the port
  12. I have 18" on a less powerful saws. 20-24" but cutting will be slower. You could go bigger with a skip chain - half as many cutters in contact, will keep the chain speed and cutting performance up as if you were cutting smaller logs. With that, 24 or 28", but I would suggest a bigger saw.
  13. Will you be stocking the G888? I'm after one. Have a g372xp, some.minor issues, they had to send me a new tank handle unit. I see you stock their chains. My experience is the full chisel cutters are very good, cuts beutifully in my 2511, but the drive links are soft, and wont last much past a few sharpenings in a more powerful saw. Correctly tensioned, 28" bar, full chisel, cutting 50" diameter lime. Chain comes off and many links are completely mashed up. Same on my 20T, I'm spiked up a 10m pole, on my own, I've got a scrench but cant get the chain back on. Decend and a closer look and all the links are mush. I've never had the problem of mashed links with any other cheapy or branded chain and I've used many.
  14. Thanks! Ex tree inspector came out to look and said much the same, confirmed its Trametes. Probes went reasonably deep and actually there are hollows all sides, but he tapped around the trunk and buttress roots to find they were sound. Recommending a 2m reduction to previous point and will write a report for the planning guy to decide, as its got a tpo.
  15. How old was the plug? Arbs are known for only changing things after they fail, or not at all, and just buying a new one... If the aspen is more volatile, that would be the difference. Pump fuel usually has different blends for summer and winter to aid starting, and reduce evaporation. I assume aspen/husq do the same but the timing may be different. Could be same mix all year, but that would suprise me. I havent looked into it, Im happy on pump fuel.
  16. I'll get better quality pics tomorrow, including I will probe the roots and the soft rot, see how deep it goes. If you click the image, quality is better, I dont know if you tried that. Or try these https://dcn6x9s7fzj11.cloudfront.net/monthly_2025_04/IMG_20250429_153810.jpg.780508fc63301f711534420eb20c1acf.jpg https://dcn6x9s7fzj11.cloudfront.net/monthly_2025_04/IMG_20250429_153820.jpg.9d5cac16c748e4b9c4ab37c3a009bdb7.jpg
  17. I appear to have lost all my small climbing wedges. Have a to be a little careful if using the small ones on the ground, a boot used as a hammer tends to split them. Made up four more tonight, but they do fit well in the pocket, dont notice them while climbing. For a bigger wedge, the range do these, also disposably priced, for the careless arborist. https://www.therange.co.uk/diy/hardware-and-accessories/floor-protection/wood-door-stop#58454 Have not used my large plastic set for ages.
  18. Anyone? Local council tree planning appear to be useless.
  19. I'm unsure what this is, the fungus looks back and old. A large amount of wood at the base is soft, wet and powdery/crumbly, but I only probed it quickly with a stick. The oak is reasonably sized, has been reduced hard before, and would hit a house if it failed. However I know oak is very strong and resistant, I dont imagine it would fail anytime soon. Sorry for the poor photo, phone was dirty. A neighbouring tree about 50 meters away had Kretzschmaria, which failed with soft rotten roots in december. This looks more like a ganoderma or old turkey tail?

    Lidl 53cc saw

This saw is still running very well. Had very good compression when I checked, always starts easily Last week we didnt have a chipper and a load of connifer had to be rashed up small the fit the van, Yesterday a fair amount of use chopping this stump. Slived the rounds with the g372 and noodled into manageable lumps with this. £20 more than my one.
  21. The other side is the same hieght as rest of garden. I think I shall need to go back with a long masonary drill bit and do some test holes to check if theres a slab or lumps underneath along the fence. Its concreted the other side. Thanks
  22. I often get asked by customers about having an area levelled, either for lawn or planting flowers. These areas are often containing small or big stumps, roots, well established weeds. Asked a few people but noone seems to have experience of the job. I'd guess there may also be concrete hidden under, often along a fence line. I'm thinking a mini digger would lift it all, tho would struggle on any larger stump or concrete. I'm told a rotavator, but they seem to be low powered tools for easy, perfect ground. I dont believe a 7 or 15hp baby engine will do it? Has anyone here got experience of this job? Machine would be hired in for a day or week.
  23. You dont buy one if your paying mechanic rates, you have to be competent at saws yourself. Mine arrived with a bad fuel vent, they sent a new tank. A real pain getting the new theottle cable in but that is the Husqy design, took a long time to work out! The niggle is the choke lever pops out its hole on the carb, but easy enough to do with a scrench. The cover comes off easily.
  24. Yes, a pattern parts clone of the 372xp that was £152 new from China, its done a reasonable amount of work. It gave me some problems yesterday but thats my own fault - I have had it apart before and must not have tightened up properly. Anyway the exhaust started to fall off, two small bracket bolts gone. Doesnt run properly with it loose, had to find screwfix for some long arm hex keys. Ofcourse the gasket was ruined so it kept vibrating loose. Would a genuine one have had the same problem, yes, 100% user error on my part. I may treat it to a meteor cylinder and piston kit upgrade soon.
  25. I use these, small enough to fit in the arbortech mini pockets, I dont know what the pockets are intended for? 40p each, chop the ball end off with silky and drill a hole for some spare starter cord in a short loop. 503 - Service Unavailable Error WWW.AMAZON.CO.UK I've bought lots. I often drop them , cant tell how many I've lost. I should get some bright orange paint...
