  1. In not convinced about that at all, or your 1 in 20 who have had Covid will develop long covid. Pretty much everyone I know has had covid at some point, some several times, not a single one has claimed to have developed long covid though.
  2. Looks like a load of old bollocks to me, I wonder WHO funded it?
  3. Is it, all over Africa or just SA? Not heard anything about this.
  4. Couple of guys I work with in the UK proper lost their shit over Covid and are still towing the line.. Both just turned 50 and in decent health, jabbed up to the nines, including the most recent booster. They are like Covid magnets, they have each had it at least 5 times now and always run down with something or another, worrying for the long term.
  5. Not so much here. It is quite common to find it on ride edges and for dividing compartments of Sweet chestnut coppice. Getting more scarce in this size due to box caterpillar. Cydalima perspectalis
  6. I was felling Poplar this time last year as my first proper Forestry job since moving over here. Saw logs at 14m with no max DUB went to the saw mill up the road from you for pallets, the pulp over to the St. Junien paper plant. Its certainly a big industry over here.
  7. Inertia chain brake is poor and doest’t work on a saw that has the potential to kick like a mule, AV system needs stiffening, fuel economy is crap, filtration system is dire, but all this can be resolved with a full wrap, big dawgs and a bark box. 😂 I don’t know any hand cutters who have replaced their 500i triggers broom with another, most have opted for a 462.
  8. Enough to know when to chase and when to use a holding cut I’m sure. 👍
  9. If you can’t blame the saw blame the Trainer. 👍
  10. Most people I know who use ported saws have had them tweaked after using them for a decent amount of time first, most 500i users I know haven’t used much more than a 261 previously, but still claim the 500i to be the best saw ever made. Nearly every chainsaw injury I have heard about since its release have involved this saw, like I said previously, it’s 90% too much saw for 90% of its users, the Honda Fireblade of the chainsaw world.
  11. How much trigger time have you put on a 500i?
  12. Is there no warning signs on the machine indicating the safe working zone?
  13. What, like this you mean? Blows out nose sprockets for fun, the 500I, 90% too much saw for 90% of its owners 😂
  14. There was a small colony living in a private woodland near me in Lancashire many years ago, they can certainly move with a lurcher on their arse.
  15. What information/evidence did they have to arrest you in the first place?
  16. I’ve heard this same old claptrap for 30 years, no Politician has the balls to carry any of what they say through, sound bites to gain votes at the next election.
  17. I think you need to sit down and have a damn good look at yourself. 😂
  18. I trained a HGV mechanic a few years back who wanted a change in his career and fancied getting into the tree business. I strongly recommended that he thought long and hard about it, and that maybe he should move into maintaining large forestry machinery instead. A chance meeting with a harvester driver in an adjacent block gave him the lightbulb moment, I think he then retrained with Komatsu.
  19. What’s your reasoning for the 372 over the 572, are you looking to port/mod it? I’ve owned and used both for years, I would choose a stock 572 all day long.
  20. Check out MWMAC Ltd, they are based in Wales and you may be able to get funding for one of their courses.
  21. The Cat 1 storm that was predicted here failed to materialise, leaving us with an unexpected beach day and fish tacos.
  22. My first time cutting Casaurina trees, this has to be the hardest wood I have ever cut with a chainsaw.
  23. I have an Eder 1800, lightweight and compact, runs on the same Aspen as the saws. I can carry winch, strops and 50mm dyneema rope at once, unlike the Tirfor. Add a snatch block and you can pull and move some decent size lumps. It has two speeds, set up to pull differing weights. Set at 900kg it pulls considerably faster than at 1800kg, I usually set it to faster for assisted fells. @Treadlight Forestry
  24. If you pass all those tickets you won’t be making tea, you will be expected to hit the ground running and prove yourself. Generally the wages in Arb, even more so in Forestry, are crap. The only contract climbers/groundies earning okay are shit hot with years of experience under their belts, not newbies. The only way to make decent money in this game is with YOUR NAME on the side of the vans.
  25. That is a pretty impressive list to complete in 8 weeks. It will give you a grounding into the very basics of the industry, and possibly a foot in the door. Tickets are not the be all and end all for employers, I have met hundreds of ticket collectors over the years who are crap, experience, efficiency and reliability is what really counts, and ultimately this will dictate how much you will earn. I won’t comment on the training that Plumpton College offer, but have you looked at Scott Fraser Training, based in Lamberhurst?
