  1. Class 1 = 20m/s which is the approximate chain speed of the saws you mention, so why would HSE/Insurance have anything to say?
  2. Looks like a simple case of powdery mildew due to the excessive heat here. It will probably be gone by the end of next week if the current forecast for rain is correct.
  3. As rumours go, this is an old one. New rumour is that Sweden are going down the two rope climbing route as from August.
  4. Rhododendron makes excellent charcoal as firewood it tends to spit so better for wood burners.
  5. I was at the last pulp gig at Glastonbury in 1995. It was the year before everything went digital and people became a slave to their phones. Jarvis told us about some incredible news that had happened on the other side of the fence, int’uvver world, that we would find out about in a couple of days. Turned out that the knives were out and Thatcher had been stabbed in the back by her own kind, incredible. Watched them in London a couple of weeks back as I couldn’t get Glasto tickets.
  6. You can buy the hessian impregnated with seed.
  7. Helping a mate out on one of his jobs today. Removing three 25m conifers, two Corsican pine and a Douglas fir, no rigging, just stripped and topped for felling, customer added an additional small Larch to the spec. Masses of chipping, ran 15 cubic metres worth off to a Chateau just up the road. Felled the Douglas between the posts and called it a day as it was still 34 degrees in the shade.
  8. From the information that I have looked at, it seems the change in the law is to protect surgeons so that they can aid women who require late term abortions e.g - due to their foetus being dead and needing it removing, or the foetus developing critical/chronic/dangerous health issues in late term. It’s changed to protect both surgeon and mother from criminal prosecution, I don’t have a problem with it personally.
  9. Not work job related but after quite a few heavy hints last month, I received a fantastic ’Father’s Day’ present from the kids, a Tasmanian Tree Fern (Dickinsonia antarctica). So this morning we cleared an unkempt, shaded shrub bed, which was bordered by broken concrete slabs, and replanted, manured, mulched and watered. We then created a new border with the remains of the stone used in the construction of the bread oven. I planted one of these ferns back at my old place in Lancashire 30 years ago, it is still going strong in the care of the new owner.
  10. That was before the ‘Tedious Two’ and the new ‘pseudo hard man’ decided it was okay to continually shit in everyone’s ears, day after day after day after day, with nothing to say, boring tedious barstools.
  11. Did anyone have a gander at the new Greenmech 135 TT at the recent APF? if so, what where your thoughts? TIA
  12. Currently picking a daily glut of red fruits, cultivated and wild strawberries, and a massive crop of cherries after a disappointing season last year.
  13. Apparently there is a generic football match going on tonight in Munich , the French club won, hallelujah ****************ing hallelujah, I’ll be kept up all night by incessant horn blowing by Arab taxi drivers all night. Fortunately I spent my evening doing something slightly more interesting, The Flaming Lips were playing tonight at a small theatre in the centre of Town. Not seen them since Manchester circa 2003, didn’t think would see them live again in my lifetime, took the kids to see them too, back to the grind on Tuesday but a great weekend all in.
  14. Looks like some Laurel thrown in for good measure.
  15. 1) Lime 2)Sycamore
  16. €400 for eighteen 2.1 metre and a saving of a days time ringing up, fuel and running the transit away.
  17. There was only one negative rig on the second stem after a few lumps had been chogged down, that piece was taken at the point we reached the 30cm DUB spec. There would have been a further nine 2.1’s to come off, easier and safer to measure and accurately cut that on the ground rather than in the tree.
  18. The tree closest the road/wall/wire was the only tree that definitely needed some rigging. It was the simplest way to swing the limbs forwards and lower them down the front of the stem, and closest to the chipper, the wind when it arrived didn’t really interfere with the plan so we continued with what was working.
  19. The first one was stripped and topped on the first day with no wind or rigging required. On the second tree the wind started to pick up, quite blustery on day two. Rigging off the first one to lower the branches from the second would have created an unmanageable/unnecessary swing and the sidewind would have smashed them into the building which is 3 metres behind the tree. Everything came down easy enough with no drama or damage doing it this way.
  20. Last couple of days removing these two 26 metre Douglas fir. Yesterday was pretty still and hot but it was a squally and windy day today, which made lowering things a bit tricky due to the proximity of the neighbours barn. Attached the Eder winch for good measure on the fells. Timber cut to 2.1metre lengths, they will be uplifted tomorrow by the local sawmill. IMG_6825.mov IMG_6842.mov
  21. I have four 550’s running either 13” or 15” bars on narrow kerf, 18” runs fine if sharp, I certainly wouldn’t go any bigger. Looking forward to the new fuel injected Husqvarna 564xp which is currently being demoed at the show in Germany, the weight of a 50cc but the power of a 70cc.
  22. Little row of pleached Small Leaved Lime trees that I cut back earlier in the year.
  23. As it is the wife’s Birthday on Thursday I have treated her to a Vacuum Cleaner for her new car. They say you shouldn’t buy a woman anything with a plug on it, so I’ve bought her a battery one. This could go either way, but if it does go tits up at least when the dust settles she will have something to clean it up with.
  24. Im more in the Willy Nelson camp, “You slow down you go down”.
