  1. The stihl ones are sweet. I wish there was an aftermarket mod one for the MS200T as watching the bloody nut drop out the tree sucks.
  2. Yea, we have a flattish bottomed wok for that reason but I wonder if you can get a little stand to stick round bottomed pans on as you can put a cloth between the cooker and the pan and it still works. Most gas cookers seem to have a big ring of 3-3.3kw and my induction hob is 3.6kw on the biggest point. You also have a lot of lost heat on a gas which you don't get with induction, you can put your hands up the side of the pan without getting burnt. I have 0-9 plus boost but each step is also graduated by a half so its 0-18 plus boost which between the outputs all being different gives you any range of power! I've not really found a scenario where one setting is too high and the next is too low!
  3. There's a big difference between saying to someone to go for their CS30/cs31 and then get some work experience in exchange for maybe a cube of wood overall based on what they can fit in their boot and someone asking a question like "is it legal for me to go and work for someone in exchange for large amounts of firewood". This started off with someone asking what qualifications to go for and ended up with an argument about the company giving him a cube of wet wood occasionally...
  4. It's horses for courses I guess! I've not had a gas hob in about 8 years! The old electric cookers were garbage but the newer induction hobs are amazing. The boost function is incredible and will heat a saucepan quicker than any gas hob. If I want to fry a steak I put oil in a pan, hit boost and in about 5 seconds its smoking and ready for the meat! I can boil a saucepan of water faster than using the kettle. I also like that I can quickly wipe off a spill or throw a tea towel or wooden spoon down next to the pan without it starting a fire. Also no chance in it being left on or leaking, I take the saucepan away and it's off. I can also put something on a timer and let it stew on a low temp for 2 hours and switch itself off. The childlock stops small hands messing with things. There's no winner here, but I know what I prefer!
  5. I think we can all agree that he's not going to be out there doing work for lorries of logs and then claiming for large machinery on his company account and making a loss on paper to hmrc to gain the benefits of that. He wants to get some logs, some experience and then maybe do it part time as a job. I wouldn't worry 🤷🏼‍♂️
  6. It all happens so quickly I suppose! I guess to the OP- Don't register for tax and try to claim for anything! 😂
  7. Makes for interesting reading! I would take a day in court like that with the way the lockdown is at the moment 😂 Am I right in saying that this was all triggered by the chipper and trailer claim as a annual trading loss exceeded the allowable limit in relation to the income for that year to be able to claim relief? If that's the case a similar thing happened to someone I used to work with. Bought a 35K camper van and claimed a loss for the year and triggered an investigation which cost him something like 160k in back taxes. Everywhere he went after that he had a little black book and accounted for every penny! I would be surprised if the OP ever got stung for this though as he's not running a business or making any claims. It goes back to if the company he's working for gets investigated but you would be very unlucky to have the OP on a weekend and be investigated for everyone on site on that day. Even then, when asked "What's he doing here, how are you paying him" the company can very easily say "He's just here for training, he's unpaid". Worst case scenario the OP says "I occasionally chuck a few bits of wood in the car" and I doubt the investigator would look into it. He sure as hell wouldn't be investigated like you were as there's no financial gain/loss or benefit (AIA) claims being made. He's a full time employee with another company who wants an occasional day of learning! Interesting reading though, I wonder if after the furlough lots of companies will be investigated for bartering in an attempt to cover up income by not having cash going into the account!
  8. No need, I don't doubt you at all! I was just curious as to a monetary value that they put on it? Did you have someone who worked say a day or two every few months on a weekend and went home with a boot of logs or was it more?
  9. I'm not going down this road... 😴 @Witterings Don't take any sticks home in case eggs dobs you in and HMRC charge you for taking £2 of VAT chargeable goods in your car boot 😂🙄 I didn't say Kevin was wrong, he's completely right but I was just adding to the conversation that we're on about someone who wants an odd days experience with a bit of wood to burn at home. Not someone who's going to be working Monday-Friday and taking tonnes of wood in return. Out of curiosity @kevinjohnsonmbe how much wood did this person take in return for services? I assume that they were trying to charge you for the VAT value for the bartered items?
  10. Chances are it will be an M8 thread so any of the stihl/husky ones should fit. You can measure the thread sticking out, if its outside diameter is between 7-8mm it will more than likely be an M8
  11. Depends on the saw? Make and model will help?
  12. I can't imagine that it will be that long before we end up with similar stuff in the UK with the way that car charging etc is moving forward. I was reading a thing the other day saying that the current national grid can't handle everyone charging electric cars. Maybe in the future they will start installing 3 phase or maybe a higher voltage for car charging ports. Teslas have a nominal voltage of 355 volts. Charging that with a 32A 240v circuit isn't really going to get things done quick. The new tesla superchargers (according to their website) are whacking out 250Kw from a 1MW power cabinet which would be 1000A@240v. Unless the UK steps up to the plate we're going to have tonnes of electric cars that need 2 days to charge in someone's garage!
  13. That's you going to jail with all the apprentices who's bosses bought them lunch and have been charged with un-registered bartering
  14. We're talking about a guy who wants to do work experience and get out the office and maybe take home some logs... We aren't talking about a guy with a big van/hgv turning up and starting a log company with the free logs he gains 😂 He shouldn't need a waste carriers licence as either he is going to be loading it into his car and is not transporting waste for business as if he was everyone who takes some garden waste to the dump needs a lower tier licence. The other scenario is the person transporting it is the company he's working for and they *should* have a lower tier carriers licence for green waste if you want to be anal about it. I'm not saying that kevins wrong, just that we're talking about a guy doing some work experience and taking home some logs not a company exchanging a service for stocks and shares. You can earn £1000 before having to register as a sole trader, that's a s*** load of logs.
  15. I wouldn't worry too much about that in this case as you're effectively taking waste. Next thing we will have HMRC charging the free tip sites on here for free goods. If HMRC asked then you're on work experience to see if you enjoy the industry, you have a proper job as well so I doubt they would even ask. If you were working and being paid in chainsaws and stuff then it would be a different scenario! 😂
  16. I'm not against that... I love my induction hob, boils water so much faster than my old gas one. Gas is such a pita!
  17. Download the weather app Windy and put the selection to Nox levels and the other atmosphere settings. You would be surprised. I'd be interested to see what you get when oven cooking a roast or frying a steak. I can see the particulates from cooking/frying!
  18. Sounds like the OP is wanting to get out the office and see if this is a career move for him more than a source for wood!
  19. Our old wood burner lets out a little puff of smoke when you open the door but it is what it is. If you open the door slowly then no smoke comes out. Opening the door the size of the fire creates a small back draught that I don't think you could really stop. Next we won't have candles indoors. I think I've filled the house with more particulate cooking a steak than my fire ever has!
  20. Waterproofs... 😂 In all seriousness though, if you want to do it to see if it's a future career move go and do CS30 so you can use a chainsaw on the ground and then maybe cs31 if you wanted so you can fell small stuff. CS30 would make you more useful than just a branch dragger!
  21. On a diesel engine, white smoke is unburnt fuel, Black is too much fuel. Water doesn't really show itself so much in a diesel but can also present itself as whitish smoke like you say but you need water from the head gasket or something. Water in the diesel usually leads to rough running or worst case pre-det as it ups the compression so the diesel fires earlier
  22. I think 12M in whatever you go for is going to be pricey, even if you went for plumbing copper which is the only thing that i can think of that isn't going to crack when you crush it. That mild steel pipe is hard as hell and unless you have an oxy torch you don't stand a chance!
  23. That would be a real pain. You're better off using something like 0.6-1mm stainless steel tube like the hydraulic pipe. Won't rust, easy ish to crush, high strength
  24. You know what Khriss, I don't know enough about huskys to offer anything useful 😂 the saw was only 3 months old if I'm reading it right so I can only assume a dodgy carb/ignition unit? PASS 😂
