  1. Ahh sorry I thought eggs was on about cash cash. I mean, I paid cash (cleared funds) for my van and didn't get anything at all for it, just a set of keys. I agree with eggs though on the finance front. Everything seems more pushed towards finance than the vehicle. They don't make that much on the vehicle but it's 100% profit on interest and for no "investment", the finance doesn't need a warranty etc. I imagine the salesmen makes money/commission on finance packages as it's the best way to make cash. The salesmen will sell you a vehicle, they may make a little commission on the optional extras or extended warranties but it's the finance packages, interest, etc that really makes them the money.
  2. And the vast majority of salesmen can't have a 20-30k+ vehicle just disappear of the books. Vat needs to be paid, invoiced need to be seen and papertrails have to be made. The good old days of cash in hand are long gone 😫
  3. I've not been able to find anything about it on the transits. Basically the issue was down to the variable displacement pumps. If you took more than 15 minutes to drain and refill the oil then the pump could drain and wasn't able to self prime. Here's a bit of info about it on the ranger but I think it just affected the 3.2 maybe going off the article. I just remember it being an issue and with the ranger and transit sharing an engine I didn't want to break anything! - http://www.aaronsautos.co.uk/2019-ford-ranger-3-2-low-oil-pressure-light-on-after-service/
  4. If you follow that breather back iirc there's a separator/valve designed to stop diesel pouring out in a rollover. I'd check that if it was me
  5. Out of interest have you serviced the newer 2.2 transits? I know on the 2.2/3.2 rangers they have an issue with the variable oil pump and if you drain the oil for too long the oil pump can unprime itself and won't reprime. I'm not sure if these engines have the same issue
  6. Sounds like we need to know the exact model of the tractor, pull up the manual and see about pto speeds?
  7. That was my reasoning behind the quote forms. Customers suddenly wanting disposal that wasn't agreed or stump grinding that wasn't quoted etc. The quote forms covered all of that and there was no question/argument about what they were or weren't getting
  8. I've not really got any terms like that. Ever had any customers get funny/decline a quote because of them?
  9. I've done the same on my website, allowed people to get approximate estimates by filling out a form and attaching some photos. It's worked well so far, you can almost always tell the height of the tree etc from the photos but it's ironed out a lot of dreamers. Obviously if people ring for a quote then I'll go and see them. I've also made a pro forma for quotes using the carbon copy duplicate paper. Designed it on A4 and had a company on eBay print them for about £10. Just means a load of tick boxes and the quote at the bottom. I've found it better than just writing a quote on a business card or texting it to the client because they know exactly what they are getting for the price
  10. Don't forget 6: Client accepts your quote, you book the work in for a fair few weeks in advance, you get in a couple of guys freelanced in for the day to help you out, the customer rings you three days before and cancel because they have had a change of heart 🤦🏼 waste of your time and you've lost some trust from your subbies...
  11. Out of interest how do people feel about doing some of these jobs? I was watching a video on YouTube from an American landscaper and he turned a job down because he knew the outcome would look garbage and he didn't want to put his name to it. I've felt sometimes, especially with work in public view that I want to turn it down through fear that it will not just look garbage but kill the tree. I'm sure some ARB company will pick up the job but I am wary of being the company who made the tree look crap or "killed my beautiful tree" even though it was what the customer specifically spec'd
  12. Ahh that's terrible! The 2014 and younger had their issues with pistons cracking and all sorts! I guess the ECU recon company should be able to say what happened? Part of the circuit is toasted, they must be able to say why? She's a beaut! Oil is absolutely pristine after 100 miles. I've never had a diesel where I struggle to see the oil level. I've boroscoped through the oil fill port and the top of the engine is spotless. I contacted days leasing who owned it before and they have all the service history for it as it was serviced by them so they are sending me the service history so I get my full history back! I'm going to drive it for a few more hundred miles and swap the oil though. I have the invoice for its last service and the oil was £28 which doesn't fill me with hope that it's any good quality stuff. Also, that diesel knock when hitting idle is only when it's cold so definitely an air fuel thing!
  13. Big difference between "coming back fine" and coming back in a massive attack of messy epicormic growth that looks like crap and leaves a tree that will only deteriorate and end up going to bi-annual fruiting 😉
  14. Here's what I would have sent back: I've drawn on a revised plan in green. If you're going to cut to yellow you might as well plant a new tree
  15. I'm 6'2 and have the same issue with brush cutters. I can't get the head to sit level with the ground unless I lower the strap right off at which point I'm hunching over to use it. I use handlebar types now because I got sick of the positioning. Downside is, you can't really use multitools on handlebar cutters without a massive headache
  16. I must say, I'm all for questioning stuff on forums but I draw the line at attacking/effecting someone's business. Spud does a bloody good job and he's also a massive contributor on here saving people hundreds in repairs. Calling out his bread and butter work as BS, especially when you aren't even a competing company seems pointless. I'm not having a go at all by the way, just think that directly effecting someone's business isn't necessary 🤷🏼‍♂️
  17. Out of interest where are you based? Customers by me have been more and more interested in what's best for the tree/conservation. I have been thinking about a Microsoft surface or something to take a photo and draw a line etc for prunes to show where it will be cut back to. No disagreements after then. Ofcourse, that doesn't stop the customer coming out and wanting more 🤷🏼‍♂️
  18. Chill out you two. Don't want you talking about your creamy centres 😂
  19. I've almost definitely been a part of the bad bit before 🤦‍♂️Sometimes on this forum it seems to be Express your opinion Someone disagrees You tell them why you disagree with their opinion (This is usually the point where both parties stop in normal conversation) They get upset that your opinion isn't the same as theirs Keyboards get mounted and abuse ensues. I think lockdown has stopped the "agree to disagree" part of conversation. p.s you're a C*** if your opinion isn't the same as mine on this 😂
  20. We made sure to keep you guys as far away as we could. It's you that's on the wrong side 😂
  21. Forgot to add that. I had to purchase the van as a private individual to get the 14 days consumer rights return thing. If I bought it as a ltd I would have 0 cover
  22. I thought sold as seen was sold as seen? Unless there's additional subsections in the sales contract. No matter how big the company is "Sold as seen" afaik is like buying a car from someone online. You get what you get, it's down to you. I bought a van today, I get 14 days return and a 3 month warranty but that was all stipulated in the contract pre sales as that's what the company gave me. If they said "sold as seen" with no additional bit for returns I would accept the van and if there's an issue then suck it up myself. Same with chippers, I wouldn't go back to a company like orange plant and say "your second hand chipper broke down after 2 weeks". If I wanted a warranty or a guarantee then I would have bought new or had it in the contract of sale?
  23. I want to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone I upset during my stay here, I like arbtalk and have learnt a lot, never meant to make enemies! 🤦🏼
  24. I picked it up today and everything seems good. Smooth to drive, put it in 6 and booted it and the dual mass isn't knocking. Drove it 86 miles and it's faultless. The true teller will be the cold start/drive tomorrow as that will pick up any other faults It doesn't seem like it's had a hard life, interior and exterior is spotless (minus the odd chip etc) and it doesn't appear to have been resprayed either! Fingers crossed I found a goodun
  25. Afaik it's to do with what can be opened or cut during the climb. Carabiners can rub open, fabrics can get cut. Same reason for not being able to use a carabiner for your anchor, they can rub open. You would be doing well for it to fail, it's made of steel and tested and the weakest one they tested was 26kn. I trust it, there's nothing to really go wrong on it, no screws to come loose or anything. The bend radius isn't bad on the gyro and I haven't had my bridge glaze or anything. I would just prefer a slightly larger bend radius still run mine on the bridge! The new gyro 4 is out now too
