  1. Well, Santi woke me early today and made it clear that nearly 16yrs of life was enough for him. He joined my pack as a foster dog in Jan 2014 aged 7. A last chance as he couldn't be rehomed due to his behaviour. He did well though and settled down quickly here, and at some point I decided he'd best just stay with us. We've seen a lot together and he's never let me down, but in the last 3 or 4 years he's absolutely been my right hand dog, rarely separated and even rarer a cross word. He's travelled throughout Scotland, to England and even to France with me for tree work. Equally happy lying watching the chipper, in the footwell of a valtra or sat beside my climbing bag as groundsdog. For me he was truly an arbdog. He'll be missed. Not the best pic but it represents his character well.
  2. The Beauly Elm had been 3d scanned, very interesting https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/beauly-elm-bf14d2bdc7604599bddf5aad549959ec
  3. What a proud looking Greylag!
  4. It's fincredible you'd say such a thing nepia, bassuming they're gillty of such an act purely because they're a sole trader, eelspecially on a forum for tree sturgeons.
  5. Doesn't appear the police have a role in enforcement. The Forestry Minister, Trudy Harrison said "These robust measures, implemented as part of our world-leading Environment Act, empower the Forestry Commission to tackle the issue head-on with unlimited fines and custodial sentences for the worst offenders.”
  6. Got a book which, although not far into it yet has the feel of being a great read, one of those you think about through the day and can't wait to get another chapter read. Sapiens, A Brief History of Humankind. A member here mentioned (recommended) it recently, I don't remember who, but thanks very much!
  7. Thanks, start him on steroids tonight so hopefully see an improvement soon. He's still enjoying the odd rampoozle though so all's not lost!
  8. Anyone know about nasal polyps and their treatment with steroids? Had Santi at the vet a while back as he's been struggling with his breathing and nasal discharge, he's basically become Darth Vader. He's an old boy with a lot of growths on his body so I suspected there were growths inside too. Vet suggested a dental infection so he had surgery but weeks later he's not improved. Saw lovely Victoria the vet yesterday and she agrees about growths in his nose. Realistically there's no remedy but she's prescribed steroids in the hope it improves things for him, though it's a case of wait and see what difference they make if any over the coming weeks, or best case scenario, months. Feeling a bit lost today not knowing what to expect, so if anyone has had similar before I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts.
  9. I like the idea of the "benefits" to engines/environment/health, certainly don't get a headache using aspen like I often do with pump fuel. I also like the idea of not worrying about machines sitting idle with fuel in as my own stuff is used sporadically. Started using aspen a couple of years ago myself when I bought a Stihl long reach hedgecutter that had only run on aspen previously. At the same time I swopped a fairly new T540xp to aspen too. Anything I replace now will start on aspen but I'm still using pump fuel for the older stuff, much as pleasant recommended. Incidentally, at work we swopped over fully to aspen a year or so back, a full range of chainsaws, hedgecutters etc all different ages and there have only been issues with 1 polesaw and 2 groundsaws so you're not guaranteed to have a problem swopping older kit over.
  10. A new year and a new beginning. All the best Steve & Mrs Steve!
  11. I think you're right, but as an illusion it pleases me.
  12. An eccentric cat lady once asked what I'd do with the Laurel removed from her property, she was horrified when I said I'd burn it as she believed Laurel holds evil spirits within it and burning would release them into the world. I said it'd be fine as I've a Rowan near the front door which supposedly wards off evil spirits from entering the house but she was sure her superstition superceded mine!
  13. Rob mentions what seemed to me to be the most salient point from the comments on the farming forum, namely mankind has burned wood to survive forever, should be a basic right to burn wood for heat.
  14. More likely there'll be a couple of years of msm headlines about the existential crayon sharpening crisis before the smart crayon is unveiled to save humanity. And government mandated light-sensitive automatic curtain rails.
  15. All's well that ends well then.
  16. Did you find a tag anywhere at all?
  17. The Rumble in the Jungle and a look along the Western Front to see The Christmas Day Truce during WW1
  18. I'm Spartacus
  19. That was me, you missed the time of your life!
  20. I was driving to a fairly out the way Tilhill woodland in the dark one Saturday evening to walk the dogs, single track road for a few miles from the main road. A car in a layby near to the junction pulled out behind me and followed to the forest car park which seemed strange, had me on edge when it parked opposite so I jumped out confidently and let the dogs out in a show of force (had 3, one a German shepherd). A lone, older guy got out at the same time and said "you brought dogs?". I replied of course, couldn't walk them otherwise could I! He said no more and left, quickly, looking very awkward. Only realised what had happened when I told a mate who explained that car park had a reputation for nocturnal activity among gentleman. If eggs finds this airtag, feel free to send it up north to me to give whoever is playing a game the runaround.
  21. Impact events would be dramatic to see too, like Chicxulub or Tunguska. Would certainly put a New Year's Eve firework display in its place.
  22. Yes you'd be completely safe, whatever you do and wherever you go you'll only witness it, then return safely when your meal is on the table and the stove is banked up. Otherwise I'd likely be the 14001 Scotsman to die at Flodden!
