  1. So an update. I have inspected the impulse line and carb boot, and they both look fine. I have also put it through some wood, and I found that it has very little power no matter how much I fiddle with the h screw. So I have come to the conclusion, that it is a carb issue. The reason I believe it is not a air leak is that in my experience, an air leak will cause the saw to race before dying, but my saw just dies as if you turned it off.
  2. Oak with a little Scots pine, to get it going
  3. I dunno, it was not replaced in the rebuild. I will take it out and check, for damage. Pot and piston are oem, but the carb is not. Do you recommend replacing the carb? Is there a way I can check, for an air leak without doing a vacuum test? I just really don't really fancy, buying something I will only use once
  4. No I have not done a vac test, and I am not totally sure what you mean about what sort of top end
  5. After rebuilding my saw (new carb/top end), it has started to have issues idling. The issue is that it will only start on full throttle, and will stop when throttle is released. I have fiddled with the L screw to no avail, and the fuel pipe, filters and carb where all replaced in the rebuild, so it will not be them. I am kind of stumped now, so any help would be much appreciated
  6. Well a cord is a measurement of timber, and cord wood is a word for unprocessed logs
  7. Dam shame, but if you built it once you can build it again
  8. I agree, in retrospect the heartwood is too light, none the less I will keep searching
  9. Good to hear It worked for you
  10. After a lot of scouring through my Collins tree guide, the closest match I found was the Black cherry (Page 254) the bark is pretty close and the timber looks about the same. I am not sure if this is the right tree, but it is the closest I could find. I have included some pics (not mine) of black cherry bark and timber, for you guys to compare.
  11. What I meant was to allow bigger vehicles/trailers to be driven with a B+E license.
  12. What I meant, was to allow bigger vehicles with higher towing weights, to be driven on a B+E license. Not to allow vehicles to tow more weight than they are capable off.
  13. In regards to tractors, I am more talking about why the government will let a 17 year old with no idea how to tow, drive a 20 ton piece of equipment on public roads. I do agree though a lot of ARB folks do abuse the tractor laws, and that is an issue that need to be addressed.
  14. I started the thread, after traveling abroad and seeing pickup trucks towing 5+ ton trailers. I was curious on why we don't have similar laws in our country, and if laws where to change what effects it would have on, the profitability of small businesses.
  15. Bark looks like larch, but the timber doesn't. Frankly I am kinda stumped, but I am sure someone more experienced will come along soon.
  16. I would say bird cherry (prunus padus), but the bark isn't quite right
  17. Looks pretty decent, really admire folks who build all their own stuff
  18. I was under the impression that you could not tow anything heavier, than 3500kg with a standard pickup/landrover. In my opinion all trailers, over 750kg, should have a MOT (I have seen some pretty iffy trailers out there). Thanks for the correction, about the tractor weight , I have edited the original post.
