  1. actually you might have sold me on the chocolate thing
  2. So a best solution might be something that the tree won't damage?
  3. Just looking at how things work, with the EU referendum and Scottish independence votes by way of comparison - if Farage, Johnson and so on had 'lost' the referendum do you think they would have quietly said "OK" and given up or do you think they would still be gong on about it? Likewise Sturgeon lost the independence vote and never gave up but kept pushing. I don't think there will be a satisfactory and mutually beneficial deal without closer integration with Europe - simple things like we all find it hand to pop over to Europe in holiday without long pass port or ferry queues. The great benefits that we could stop the Belgians coming here to live and we could fish all the fish have never really been great benefits to be honest and at a greater cost and inconvenience to trade.. so to get any benefits I think we need to integrate with some of the systems and so on that they have. Assimilate if you like.
  4. A silly question that might not be so silly... what caused the end of the drive to crack in the first place? (suspect that the tree roots are cracking the drive and in which case, put in another solid drive, in 10 years time you will be in the same situation again, cracked drive.)
  5. Or just keep banging on about how bad the EU is till you get a vote.. and I suspect the same 'lefty logic' would have applied if we had voted to remain - see Sturgeon and Scottish independence as an example there
  6. The UK population is swinging towards closer ties with the EU so perhaps the politicians should continue to respect the 'will of the people', stop being 'anti-democratic' and govern according to our wishes?
  7. There was a toddler shot himself the other day too with his mums loaded gun left in the car as she went grocery shopping.
  8. I started but the images were getting 'not safe for work', less nunny and more Lady Godiva
  9. No, but the burka thing is just xenophobia
  10. But Catholic nuns... they're OK? So long as the scary eyes behind the mask are white we are all happy. Ask for masks... nothing new, the accused are often seen hiding their faces - did you only ever start watching the news 4 years ago?
  11. If there is water then it has to be coming from somewhere. Painting the felt sounds like just sealing it in. Have a look at the other end where the chimney leaves the building perhaps
  12. D'oh, yes! that one
  13. Yes, 59% of the rest of the population live in poverty. Take head from arse and look at the world objectively instead of just being objective.
  14. It's never quite that simple though is it? Could be that Israel's policies keep Gaza - generally - in a state of poverty... and in poverty extremism flourishes. Give people a chance and a hope (generally applies everywhere) is the way to drive out the terrorists (and generally criminal gangs - terrorists are just more organised with better infrastructure?). Can look at that area from both sides very easily as "well, they started it" and point out what each side has done, but it doesn't stop them attacking each other.
  15. weirdo - you mean foster some sort of understanding between all sides rather than just rules of the playground "they started it?"

    Tax tax tax

Was told once I should be grateful to pay tax because that means I am earning enough for the tax man to care (and not too much to be an arse and hide it away was the rest of the sentence). All I'd do is make sure there is enough coming into the bank account each month (after taxes) to keep me in the style and life I want.
  17. Is there any risk associated with the tree - paths, public accessing the woods, falling on anything? If the risk is minimal is there a need to remove it is where I am coming from. Had a couple similar in my wood but was able to leave them, storms brought them down eventually, no risk to me or anyone else.
  18. Its the constant -anything bad a non white person does is reported by you as making the news today, any similar crime by a white person is ignored-. In this week you might be surprised to know that white men have also stabbed others to death, you never mentioned that, why would that be? The news article itself is not a racist article, but your bias of what you post. Constantly. Stick to the milling thread, comments on the diving, people are interested in that and respond positively. Just reading what the forums interests are.
  19. I'll humour your relentless political and racists posts with just the one. Probably a similar response as the previous administration did. No better. No worse.
  20. Or this? Woman, 25, charged with assault after milkshake thrown at Nigel Farage NEWS.SKY.COM Victoria Thomas Bowen, 25, will appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court on 2 July following the incident at a campaign event in Clacton, Essex on Tuesday.
  21. Is this what you mean? Man to be sentenced after throwing cup at Clacton MP Nigel Farage during General Election campaign | ITV News Anglia
  22. Just seeing that one of the guys charged with cutting down the sycamore gap tree was in court today - pretrial hearing, trial due later in the year. Apparently the tree was worth about £620k and Hadrians wall damage about £1k. The other defendant was 'excused attendance' - does that mean he is being looked after at his majesties pleasure? (the guy charged is 38, but looked like he had a heavy paper round, but that is me just being bitchy)
  23. You see a few caravans in the forest near us, especially at harvesting time - never parked up near each other though even if they are on the same job. I suspect there is a factor with age that your own bed is more of an appeal than roughing it every night. Hotel / B&B / Guest house every night sounds god, someone does the laundry, breakfast cooked and no dishes but that gets tiring after a few nights. However if it is a job you like, the money is reasonable, a weekly commute might be a small inconvenience, especially if you can get home any night you need or want to
  24. We're office based so might be softer but driving hours are seen as a part of the working day (8 hour day, 2 hours drive there 2 back leaves 4 for work, 8 hours working +2 +2 driving = 12 hour day). Similarly they consider early starts too - some stats out there for road accidents are more common at the early start rather than end of the day. Pretty much they push us to public transport (no driving) or an overnight stay if the travel is more than an hour each way. OP - 110 mile I'd be estimating 2 1/2 hours each way, plus half hour break (recommendation a driving break every 100miles / 2 hours) on decent roads, back roads (40-ish) could be 3 hours. If the 110 miles wasn't 90 on motorways I'd be considering the total working day, perhaps an overnighter and combining 2 jobs in the area if they are lucky to pick and choose. A lot of us are 'older' now and younger days driving wasn't seen as much as an avoidable risk so am sure we all have stories to tell, mine tend to be cross Pennine for a 9:30 Cumbria start wacky races (before A66 was upgraded a lot - race past the lorries on the half mile stretches of dualled road and hope you don't get your front taken off by the guy pushing it a little bit more), and a round trip Edinburgh to Birmingham for 10:00 start and then back to Penrith to climb there the next day.
  25. If it's just to stop the rust spreading around the holes and cut edges wire brush off the rust - use rust remover if you want - and then a galvanising spray over the where the rust was and any new holes or cuts you make should do the job. I did fill a hole in the garage roof with bolt / washer and some bitumus paint - did the job OK so yes, cheap and cheerful will work to - all depends on the finished look you want
