  1. There are no milling licenses as yiu well know[emoji6] But I do have felling and cross cutting licences. And milling insurance. And a little experience milling too. [emoji848][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  2. You’ll need bigger than that to mill it. A duromatic 48” will mill 42” max. A nose sprocketed bar will lose 12” at least. My 56” bar on my panther only mills 42”. I also have an 80” mill with 84” bar. Available to hire with experienced, licensed and insured operators. Huddersfield. 07376803384 [emoji106]
  3. Chainsaw milling oak veneer🤣[emoji106]
  4. When a big chain de rails it comes off the rim sprocket almost instantly. I’ve had this happen about 15 times last week. Thought the chain tensioner was going bad. Then the rim sprocket exploded. Found the problem. New rim sprocket and new chain it’s all fine. [emoji108] I don’t pick up the 880 anymore🤣🤣🤣 The 881 is surprisingly fuel efficient with the same power as the 880. That’s quite important when you burn 5-10 litres of alkylate a day. [emoji106]
  5. Life’s short. Get a bigger ladder. [emoji106]
  6. Looks sweet! Take the dogs off for easier tensioning. Have you seen the “will malloff” side plate? It’s just an oval where the bar nuts are. The rest is gone. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  7. They begin fading within seconds of the cut being opened and exposed to air and draught which drys the surface very quickly. After a few minutes they will have faded considerably. However the sapwood goes bright orange! (Just pour water over and rub in to see the original colour)[emoji6][emoji106] After drying and planing and oiling they can be from caramel to peach with pale sapwood. [emoji106]
  8. Nice bit of 10’ x 2’ cherry today. Stihl ms881 and the 60” panther mill. [emoji106]
  9. You can still have a tpo on a log. Yes. A dead log. Google it. That group which did all the living archaeology on bbc? One Xmas episode they went to cut up a log in a field. Fortunately failing, as the log had a tpo/preservation order on it. 🤣[emoji106]
  10. All our firewood is cut at 8” so it will fit in the net bags[emoji106]
  11. Probably right mate. I’ve seen it when it wasn’t water though. I’ll always put a climber up first if I see that. [emoji106]
  12. Because in the uk most people have little tiny fireplaces and burners. And it drys quicker. [emoji106]
  13. That black piss coming from that hole... I’d be very very careful with that tree. £20,000 fine per bat yiu disturb. And that’s a classic bat sign.
  14. Yes. Or get a Logosol saw bench. [emoji106]
  15. To remove that from your back garden I would be charging over £2000. The trunk appears to lack burrs or pippy so is worthless. Also very few sawmills will accept garden trees. It’s a big removal job I’m afraid.
  16. Running the stihl ms881 on the 60” panther mill through 34” oak. And a small cherry stick. [emoji106]
  17. Those are cool trees[emoji108][emoji108][emoji108]
  18. As a sawmiller I’d say it’s absolutely worthless. No trunk to speak of. Branches are useless.
  19. How huge? Is it hollow? Any photos? [emoji106]
  20. Traditionally yes. However with the advent of epoxy resin, Cracks, holes, rot pockets etc are now desirable features. In practice it means less trunks are firewood/chip or left to rot. [emoji106]
  21. Kiln drying is very different to air drying. And there are many variables to both. Kiln drying is forceful on the wood, it splits and cracks considerably more as the different densities of wood dry at different speeds. Air drying without forced airflow is slow. Very very slow, but the finished product is much better. Some Japanese will store slabs for 15 years before use. As for firewood, Cut to under 12”, split with no edge longer than 4”. Store in a draughty barn for 2 years. You won’t need a moisture meter. [emoji106]
  22. Chainsaw wellies are great for getting rid of verrucas. Wear them for 3 x 14hr days Your feet get so soft, just pulled the whole fecker out in one go. Bit scarily large lump of white flesh peeled off. Big hole. Never worn them again. Get a pair of andrews. [emoji106]
  23. Forget what species it is, Mill it up! Look at the colour of the heartwood in picture 4. [emoji106]
