The biggest factor is paying Nurses slave wages that you simply cannot live on in the UK, you can exist but not really live. This is fine for imported Eastern European and African Nurses that getting this wage is a dream come true for them, but it is sub-par for British people. Why go through 4 years of skilled training to then work in a high stress work environment to make slightly more than someone sitting on their arse scanning food at Tesco? The NHS needs torn down and built from the ground up. I am very glad I have private medical insurance for myself and my family these days. A Doctor is a "face-to-face" meeting away via an app. MRI Scans etc within a few days of approval.

Well I had a look. Very interesting I must say and I’ll give it a go this season. What caught my attention was the use of grass clippings to hold the straw down. We have a fair bit of lawn so a significant amount of clippings to dispose of. Ideal solution. I meant local people as opposed to farmers who are growing their own produce will increase and have a surplus they may wish to sell or trade. For example, I have an abundance of eggs I simply don’t need every day. We give them away, but if there was someone with too much tomatoes I’d happily trade them. I’m genuinely interested in how folk plan on planting and harvesting tatties with this no dig “nature knows best” ideal. I’m not talking about growing above ground in bags or tubs, that’s not natures way.

I’m sure we’ll see far more use of alternative farming going forward, and that’s a good thing. I wonder if we’ll see more stalls/markets pop up with folk selling their goods? We’ve a weekly farmers market in town, the problem is these same products are in Tesco for less. Would be nice to see more heritage produce or less common fruit and veg.

I have no idea if the fact fertiliser has trebled in price this last year but I’ve never seen so much field prep/ploughing in the Spring. I don’t know the terminology of what’s going on in the fields around me but the farmers where in and out of the fields with far more machinery than they usually are. Ploughing far deeper this year too. Bits of drains that used to take run off from my farmhouse across the field down to the stream have been ripped up this year. First time I’ve seen that in the 7 years I’ve been here. Might be a good time to dig out my metal detector [emoji16]

99.99% of folk buying a toy saw like this will not know the difference. And how do you show it’s hot in a video? Why not both? Start it cold. Let it warm then try again when hot. More importantly pop the muffler off and have a look at the pot and piston.

It was a part of woodland floor that I’ve since removed the trees from. It’s quite compact since it was then used as my Log Deck Loading area that’s seen some Avant action. No weeds at all. So I’ll dig it over.

I’d not bother with an Omlet Run and Coop. I’d just build something. At least look for something second hand? The idea of chickens soon loses its excitement and people want rid. But they are great for food waste. We have virtually none now. What can’t be fed to them Avacado, onion scraps gets composted.

Sounds like you're trying to be more self sufficient as opposed to going off-grid? I am also trying to be more self sufficient. I keep chickens and ducks although I will neck most of the Ducks when they stop laying this year due to them not being able to eat as much scraps as the chickens and relying more of bought feed. I will get back into keeping a veg patch, or a few as I have the space and with the cost of food increasing exponentially it will no longer be a quaint hobby but a healthy and cost effective alternative. Ive got a Raspberry Patch and soon will have a a Strawberry patch just as soon as Ive rotavated the plot Ive picked out for that. Ive been planting fruit and nut hedging plants around the perimeter of my property. I like the idea of having a hedge that provides the privacy of a hedge, but also provides Hazelnuts, Cobs and some fruits that will feed us and also the wildlife as well. (We have Red Squirrels) The last two weeks Ive planted out some Cherry and Apple Trees along with some dwarf Walnut Trees. As I have a small Sawmill I can provide almost all the timber I'll ever need for my own projects. Build my Workshop, all my fencing, all my decking, Oak Sleepers for the Drive, Oak Edging for walkways and Veg Patches. I also make a modest income from the Milling and Timber sales. From Milling I have a huge quantity of of-cuts and 'scabs' that I use for my Wood Burning Stoves, an 11kw in the Livingroom and an 11kw Wood Fired Range in the Kitchen that does almost all our cooking, heats the kitchen and provides all our hotwater at virtually no cost to myself. I will be getting a used Wood Fired 26kw Boiler Stove and Thermal Store installed this summer so that we have virtually free Central Heating for this winter. (Excluding the purchase and instalation cost of course.) Good luck with your ventures. It sure is nice being able to provide for yourself.
