  1. That a huge problem. Those with skills who are getting underpaid off-shore and told that its ok because you get lots of time off instead end up working on-shore and get to see their families each day and never head back off-shore to the crappy UK conditions on UK sector rigs. £400 a day should entice a few back, but its generally 3 on 3 off in the UK, right?
  2. Im glad things are back on the up. Was getting real bad for a while.
  3. Is the UK sector still paying that kinda money? From speaking with folk I used to work with in the North Sea those days are long gone and many skills/trades have been replaced by cheap Eastern European labour. Agency work might pay £400 a day I guess? But its not regular work and you're not an employee with any of the perks or stability.
  4. A potential stoppage is having your house repossessed as getting paid 1/3rd of your previous wage does not cover your bills?
  5. I dont remember the thread you started, I guess I missed out in that one. I would never say that a female should not enter any sector based on her sex, far from it, I openly encourage it. My day job is working in Norway and the Norgies have a far more balanced view of what women are capable of and you see women in all sorts of roles that are seen as traditionally male orientated such as Rough-Necks and Binmen (women). In this instance though we're talking about someone who is a skilled trade person, closing in on middle age and has responsibilities that would make such a drastic and uncertain change to a very poorly paid manual job a somewhat unwise career change.
  6. People are far less likely to give you an honest answer face to face though. They'll just blow smoke up your backside to avoid offending, or to tell you what you want to hear to avoid a confrontation. They'll just tell you 'yeh thats a great idea! You should really really go for it'.
  7. You want to give up a skilled career to work minimum wage?
  8. Ive never had an issue with either of my Stoves. I expect the problem is people just not knowing how to properly operate their stoves rather than the manufacturer not offering stoves that do their job correctly.
  9. And who’s is the van that looks like the gypo’s abandonded it? Honestly, if criminals were housed this way they’d have a genuine human rights case on their hands. Perhaps the Boat People should be put up this way? That would soon stop them.
  10. I’m in a Sandstone Farmhouse from 1880 and don’t have any of the issues you’re having. Both my stoves are modern Eco designs.
  11. I burn over 30m3 bags of firewood a year, almost 50/50 split between my living room stove which is an Aarrow (Arada)Ecoburn 11 and my Esse Ironheart. They’re both on almost all the time all year long. Only the Livingroom stove gets a rest in the height of Summer. Over the last 5 years I’ve only ever had to change out Fire Bricks twice and a set of Rope Seals on Both.
  12. The South Esk the flooded Brechin runs about 1/2 a mile south of my house about 1/2 a mile to the North it passes Justinhaugh. It must have been something else to have seen the river burst its banks so badly. Just past Justinhaugh is Finavon and the A90 crosses the South Esk there. The A90 is still not open due to the bridge being weakened. So gridlocked traffic in Forfar and a huge amount of traffic piling past me on the B957. We lost power but apart from that it was quite uneventful for us. These Pics are from Justinhaugh. Marykirk had it bad and the road will most likely be closed for a good while. The Aberlemno road is still closed too. A mate owns a section/bank of the South Esk, I’ll be over there tomorrow and see what the damage is
  13. Thats a cool picture! I have Starlink as well. Gone from 8mbps to between 150-300mbps.
  14. Amazing work! Whats the plans for the land now?
  15. Check out this watercam footage of the River Esk, at Edzel, from... WWW.FACEBOOK.COM Check out this watercam footage of the River Esk, at Edzel, from www.farsondigitalwatercams.com
  16. Id plan a nice fruit or nut bearing tree. A dwarf Walnut Europa would be stunning.
  17. Just sell the volume of a builder bag and charge accordingly?
  18. That’s a good site! I’ve dropped them an email. It’s not easy to get even a rough price out of any of them. Not even a figure to see if it’s worth carrying on looking into . Looking into the US is another option, good call!
  19. Thats the kind of cabin Im looking for! Im looking fiorward to seeing how much land my mate with the estate will sell me and how much for. Ive been lead to believe that if you cant get planning permission if you have over 12.5 acres you can 'live there' if you have sheep during lambing time and also if you're building a barn. I need to look into this more. This reservoir is just behind me, maybe 5 miles further up into the glen? Granted its mostly water but its 35 acres for offers over £130,000. Den Of Ogil Reservoir & Woods and approved site for off-grid cabin - Goldcrest Land & Forestry Group GOLDCRESTLFG.COM This one is not close but its in Scotland and 15 acres for overs over £125,000. Land at Kentallen - Goldcrest Land & Forestry Group GOLDCRESTLFG.COM I just need to convince my mate to sell me 12-15 acres for £130,000. and then work on getting planning on it over the next few years.
  20. Might get me enough to buy the flowers at the funeral.
  21. Then I need a really rich relative to die.
  22. I certainly do! I just need a rich unknown relative to leave me a bunch of cash.
  23. Good point. Most Norwegian Cabins are just small houses though, I particularly want a 'real' or as real as I can get to real Cabin.
  24. Are you new to the internets?
