I’ll be doing the next Bench in 5” thick. This is 2.75” Beech Slab. It’s plenty thick for my needs.

Funnily enough the missus said the same thing. If I manage to look after it I might move it to the Cabin I’m away to start on. Well, when I say start on I mean start milling the 6” Beams.

Just the usual for me. Danish oil. 🤣 2.5 litres of the stuff and it was still sucking it in. 4 coats though.

Needed a new workbench for the new workshop, really just something til I build a Roubo but as that could still be some time away I thought I’d build a strong but simple bench out of the first tree I milled. So the top and legs are Beech and the rails and slats are Oak.

So zero heating or using something else?

I like the idea of a Wind Turbine. We certainly get more wind than sun where I am. [emoji16] What issues have you had with it and how much was the instal?

You need to contact them directly to get that info. Its not really advertised. Id make the buyer take full responsibility for any damage during transit. Pics loaded on the truck and the rest is on them. I accepted this for the Chip Extractor.

I shipped a double Chip Extractor that was 1750mm wide without an issue recently with M&H Carriers. Not only that but the seller had no pallet and refuced to secure to the pallet. I guess there is a number of ways in which you could extrapolate the data. 1, as you suggest. 2, That introducing the BE License and the required training/test did not in fact make any discernable difference to road safety over the last 20 years and therefore was a needless hinderance. If what you suggest was true then Id expect to see a steady decrease in the number of Trailer accidents over the last 20 years as the now older entitlement drivers either died off or retired and stopped using Trailers. From my own experience of using a Trailer over and under 750kg since I past my test in '98 I have yet to see a Trailer accident on the roads or been stopped and inspected. Ive only ever seen one traffic stop by the police pulling Trailers over in all that time. Maybe. Everyone I know who past their test after '98 and tows over 750kg regularly has yet to have an accident or be pulled over. Of course this is purely empirical but in my mind it reflects the bigger picture and perhaps one of the reasons the government changed the rules regarding BE. That being there is no noticeable decline in accidents since BE was introduced and chasing under 40's for towing over 750kg is virtually un-policeable.

That was a very long winded way to say no, there was no discernable decrease in Trailer accidents since the BE was introduced in '97/'98.

Out of interest was there a massive decrease in trailer accidents after ‘97?

Quite right, but then I’d only get done for being over weight and not for towing without a licence as well. I don’t tow over weight though, so it’s not really an issue. I’d prefer to do two runs and I rarely pick up logs that are over 30 minutes from my house. Now I’ll be able to hire Plant which is handy, as is being insured to tow.

And a licence would not stop that prospect from happening.

You, just you. Everyone else seems quite happy with the prospect. I certainly am. I’ll be a lot safer towing 3.5t after the 15th since I’ll no longer be keeping an eye out for the police. I can fully focus on driving and towing. 😁

You’re just bitter because you’re loosing your ability to fleece people. I passed my test in ‘98. No trailer licence. Never had an issue towing.

I might just cut my 6” Beams out the hearts and have nice abs chunky slab wood that I’ll cut and bag up at the end. Will see if I can shift them. If not I’ll just bring them home for my own Stoves.
