  1. For chainsaw training I recommend Askham Bryan as I did mine there. Edit: If I remember correctly it's Sarah Wickham you need to speak to (apologies for any badly spelt names). Unfortunately I believe I've lost her email address since changing my email.
  2. 63 plate doblo 1.2 45-50 depending on how careful I am.
  3. It's just too far for me unfortunately- I'm in the north east of Scotland.
  4. Where are you based if you don't mind me asking? I wouldn't say no to some sub contract work if you're near me.
  5. Advance warning about the HRX: the drive system can be expensive to fi if it breaks (£400for the transmission) unless it's the belt to the drive that breaks. I know because the drive on mine has just had to be replaced.
  6. And here's a way to make it more useful, if the website is to be believed. Please note that I have I have not tried it. Paper Log Maker David
  7. I have just had a look at the safety brochure for FS450 online and if the relevant diagrams on page 23 are correct the locking pin hole should be on the right of the gearbox. The manual should be attached to this post. It does strike me as unusual if there is no hole for a locking pin as all the big stihls that I have used have one. STIHL_FS_300350400450480 manual.pdf
  8. Still have days free if anyone is interested. David.
  9. I've never used flexiblade line in a conventional head and I do prefer the jet fit heads as I find that they are easier live with being easier to fix and more robust due to fewer parts and simplicity. I can't speak for the portek heads though as I have never tried them. David
  10. In my experience (4mm) it lasts better than round line for bump feds. I haven't tried the narrower stuff though. It may occasionally need pulling out with pliers, but apart from that it does work and last well.
  11. Thanks for the replies everyone. David
  12. Due to a recent move up to Grantown-on-Spey I am now after a new job, preferably doing forestry/arb work. I f you have any questions or to request a copy of my C.V. please PM me, or ring 01479873279. David.
  13. Just had that same message again just now. David.
  14. I also remember being told in one place or another that fuel over 30 days should not be used. As has already been said by others never mix more than you need and don't be ashamed to be that sad person that always drains fuel out of machines that could be laid up for more than a few days. While you're draining the tanks rationalise the fuel into as few containers as is safely possible. A good funnel will be very useful for this, if not essential in my view (preferably a clean plastic one that never leaves the workshop, personally I find this helps a lot). I should say be very careful not to spill any. My apologies if you found this post rather longwinded.

  16. Hi Steve, Internet Explorer and MacAfee. The message appears to one from Microsoft: this hardly seems to be surprising as my laptop runs on windows. David
  17. Has anyone else been getting messages that Arbtalk has been reported as an unsafe site as I have been getting messages saying so when I have been on today? David
  18. Thanks for the replies everyone. David.
  19. Who would anyone on here recommend for CS32 training in Scotland? I'm asking as I did my CS30/31 at Askham Bryan in Yorkshire and I am currently living in Grantown-on-spey (near Inverness). This now means that Askham Bryan is now too far away to travel to. I don't mind having to bring my own saw and PPE as I have that already. David
  20. Just a shame that I can't that lot in the back of my van (fiat doblo). I all honesty I could not help but laugh when I saw the photo. This might be the only time that I don't regret a typing mistake. It should have read 1 Stihl 026.
  21. 1 026 at the moment, though this might change at some point in the future when I decide to buy something a bit more modern.
  22. I still have days free if anyone is interested. David
  23. If I had known about the peat soil I would not of suggested it, but I was thinking of doing it as a way to save time treating the stumps. Good idea about doing the burn in a wet hollow though. David
  24. Have you been lighting your fires on the stumps to help deal with the regrowth? David
  25. Hot and with a lot of pulling up weeds in someone else's garden.
