  1. i got 4 lops with my new 550 xp i love it , handles anything and keeps its edge real well , ok now and again i hit something and needs deressed a bit but the cutter is a bit longer so its a godsend too , cant fault it , even in real hard dead elm its smooth and cuts well but needs the 3/16 th file which i occasionally forget about and grab the 7/32 and , oops , not fit , go back tot he bag and get the 3/16 :-0 , all my other saws are full chisel 3/8 thus why i forget sometimes :-)
  2. it is there now , i forgot to put it there in the pic , all saws were complete other than a missing starter on the 1994 one
  3. all 4 bolts are the same length on these saws From the other forum gilardoni jugs was fitted to 238 and 42 and 242 but not xp or xpg but were open port design and different pistons also , 242 xp and xpg all are closed port and all these 3 are closed port also the cylinder date stamps match up with the original serial tags on all 3 XPG saws so the chances that all 3 blew up in the same year and replaced with cylinders from that year are pretty remote , on Arborist site there are lots of comments all over about 242 se, xp and xpg and over the years there were KS Mahle and Gilardoni cylinders but IPL is vague about it , and Gilardoni listed from 1994 when the saws were upated so i,m confident these are the original cylinders installed by Husqvarna so thats fine by me
  4. are you sure ? according to research on Arborist site, Gilardoni cyl are closed port and were used on 242 Xp from 1994 apparently , these saws have never been taken apart from what ive seen they are ex forestry commission and even so probably will have OEM cyl replaced but doesnt seem so , they were clogged up with dust and pitch and not a mark on any of the cyl bolts , not a scratch on the cyl bolt heads atall , all 3 have date stamps on them 1994 and 1997 on other 2 and stamps on the top of cyl which are the closed port versions A and C are open port ones , from what ive read , but i think is wrong as i think its piston or bore dimensions to some Factory spec , this the OEM symetrical window on piston compared to the older basic 242 open port ones , Gilardoni 241B which is apparently fitted from 1994 on and the date stamps on top of all 4 Clyinders , Can anyone on here comment that this the correct cylinders , i,m pretty sure they are but may be wrong , from what ive seen im 99% sure they are originals on this 3 saws
  5. well after some pottering about and waiting for some parts , first one is running and sweet as fook , all required was a new caber piston ring, nothing wrong with old one but a little tweek with flap disc to Original Gilardoni Cyl , base gasket delete from 40 thou to 20thou , a new oil feed pipe for oiler and , vac/press test was good , original crank was perfect and bearings smooth , had a flush out with premix petrol and blown clean with air , even when dry it was smooth , bit of lube in bearings and was like new , replaced a coil wire as coating slightly damaged due to nipping beside the coil on the sheild so wire was visible , fuel line removed and checked , no issues, looks like new, mounts all good ,no splits or damage , so all good really , mods done... air filter 12mm tiny restrictor and muffler internal baffles ground out to eliminate massive restrictive back pressure, worn heads and missing bolts here and there replaced , put together and a drop of petrol in intake 3 pulls and fired , then a bit more petrol and fired up , set up carb and left running to warm up and bit of bedding in over a few cycles , runs like a beast , but not thrashed yet m set 4 troking on H jet for bedding in again , No 2 on list soon :-)
  6. from a local husky dealer some parts are NLA but so far ive been lucky as its only small items needed
  7. i have a heap of pics of them in disassembly and each part , they were covered in in a lot of hardeneed sap/ roset as were Forest commission tools so not well looked after lol but didnt take much to clean them up really , should have taken pics before the clean up , several new parts ordered from husqvarna, gaskets , seals , oil pipe rubber bumper limiters, missing bolts , just small items , one generator will be expensive but i dont think its necessary really as its not quite Canada temps over here and i wont use them much , but might look into it , same as 262 xp one , i might use the other one from the spare parts one , depends on my plans really , another saw for the collection growing :-)
  8. possibly i dont do much snedding so will probably keep one as historic saw lol ,
  9. never really done much research on 242 xp saws , but seen them for sale locally and got a deal on them 1 was running and other 2 were not running one had real good compression and the other was poor but was almost complete other than starter and brake /clutch cover missing , decided to take them all apart and get them running , but not quite there yet ,good thing is they are all original and have Gilardoni cyls and OEM pistons . Saw 1 1997 xpg taken apart had the generator buggerd with overheating/ shorted ? , one of the wires to the coil was pinched and a bit green on the wire so made a new one to replace also the nylon worm gear stripped due to solidified oil in pump cyl and piston fine but a lot of carbon in there , still original hone marks and machine marks on piston , so gave it a wee tweek with flapdisc and new caber ring to be fitted soon , carb stripped and nothing inside atall , diaphragms and needles all look well , everything else fine , so every part cleaned and checked and will rebuilt soon , crank bearings very smooth , but will do a vac pressure test when put together if crank seals needed , but seems fine, when run before taken apart for inspection runs real smooth and crisp and 4 stroking at full throttle , no bog atall , but will check it anyway , air filter opened up for better flow as it has a tiny opening about 12mm , and muffler baffles ground out as these are heavily restricted too Saw 2 1994 xpg taken apart , generator looks fine , cyl and piston in perfect condition original hone marks and machine marks on piston , reason it didnt start was due again to damaged coil wire shorting to chassis , clutch and oil pump in real good condition but oil pick up hose is split so will be replaced , carb apart and looks like new , again air filter and muffler modded , also new 5mmx80mm bolts fitted as they are well rusted so 4mm allen key was a a struggle but got them out so so everything else all cleaned up and new ring fitted too and hopefully running well Saw 3 1997 xpg , again taken apart and cleaned everything , piston was scored on exhaust side and muffler was very light grey inside and checked the H screw and was just under 1/2 turn out so was lean seized , some alloy transfer to cyl but was removed easily , and a nice crosshatch done again with flapdisc , clutch and oil pump all good but again the generator has some issue but can be fixed , the wire has some corrosion where it runs behind the cyl so wire may be repaired once sheild stripped to see fresh copper if its there , both wires broken by pinching by harsh use on the handle but can be repaired as there is about 1 inch protruding , but this saw may just be used for spares as the pull start is missing too and a couple of screws and the caps and a wire removed , so may have been a spares saw
  10. i got a 25 l oregon bio oil , for a good discount , and partly because we were taking down big dead elms in a gully where a stream was so went for bio oil , yes it is thnner , not not seen any issues with it , in fact used it today at 5 deg c blocking up a lot of wood and was fine , but not full winter yet so maybe it will be more tacky or maybe worse but i did have oiler set to about 50% ,as it does fling off a bit easier but i would presume oregon did some feild testing with it
  11. yeah thats why got it from US , its available over here soon i think or maybe already is , not been in the UK atall through its life byUK Husky dealers , but TBH the new 572 is a beast and all in only 1 lb heavier than the 562 xp , might be next on the list as i,m a Dumbass lol i did see side by side pics of them and almost no difference in size , but 572XP is 1100 quid inc vat over here in Feb 18 . edit no biggie but D009 mount on the 562xp
  12. its the same cyl carb exhaust etc but had the higher top cover 2 versions of filters and has the D009 big mount , thats why I got it, all my stuff (apart from the 262xp and 550xp ) are big mount the 562 xp has a higher capacity oiler too as it can run a 24 inch bar
  13. I know i tend to be a bit daft with saws too i have 7 o them but not a pro feller lol , my pal is full ticketed and i help him with jobs so love it , my modded 562 xp is my favourite , 395 is used for milling mostly , but had done some 3ft elms so old 385 clutch cover chopped for better dust removal and cooling as its upside down so fines get in the clutch and wrap rempved too
  14. i was going to do that to mine for fun too but not cheap to do over here , different air filter high top cover full wrap ,big dogs , but looks nice , so just got a 395 xp which has all that already :-)
  15. i have a 562 xp and yes the power is the same but the chassis is slightly different , D009 mount and runs 3/8 chain like most pro huskys , and different clutch and higher capacity oil pump and air filter and top cover , i got it because my saws all had D009 mounts , great saw , no issues whatsoever , did open the muffler to allow heat escape better and added a lot of heat reflective tape used in race care engine bays on the crankcase nder the muffler and all inside the top cover and dremeled a hole in the top cover to replicate the newer versions which you'll see in the pic beside the handle and down the side of it too which removed about 3/4 inch of material so a big assist with keeping things cooler like the newer ones ,
  16. Would like to get that 572xp but no need reallly as i have a full range of saws but maybe one day :-) ,yip stubby these are on my 562xp , I love that saw , got it due to the fact all my bars are D009 large mount apart from the 550 i have recently got
  17. that was thought about but when its running i,ll see what happens , i know about the bolt set up you do , but there were comments on other forums about it getting choked up with dust so a lot of users just drip it onto the chain , see you it goes :-)
  18. Been offline a while , whats Flashband ? is that the self sealing tape , dont think its fuel resistant tho unless there is a specific one
  19. Need to Mill up some big elm , and needed a longer bar so got a 48 inch GB bar from Rob D , so decided to make an Aux oiler to save wear on the bar and chain, went to Halfords and got a juice bottle with a pull up stopper which acts as a vent to allow air in and then stopped easily when moving around to stop spillages ... and a bike juice bottle holder for total of £6 , Made up a bracket from a piece of 20mm flat bar i had in the shed to sit in the bar clamp post , took about 20 mins drilling holes bending adjusting etc , got a 1/4" ball valve and a bulkhead fitting with sealing washers for the bottle from a local supplier £5 , a 1/4 NPT fitting with a push fit swivel 6mm nylon air hose fitting £1 , bit of car screenwasher hose also from the shed and got a adjustable airline needle valve to control the flow from a local aquarium shop for 90p , Made up a bit of plate and drilled a hole to attach it to the bar clamp to attach the regulator to with double sided foam sticky pad for a car No plate and also a small cable tie incase it came loose , did plan to just drip it on the chain but decided to drill a 5 mm hole on the top side only of the rail and also the other side for flipping the bar , filled the bottle up with oil and drip tested it and would actually pour out no problem and adjusted down to fully closed so ,easy to set up .
  20. yeah i learned a lot from Afleetcommand vid in the reply i gave , has no revboost. EL47 carb only, smaller transfers , which can be fittted from the 560 , dunno if it would make a difference tho , only a minor contribution with the rest of the differences
  21. very similar to the 560 , only some differences with it.. the crank doesnt have stuffers and the whole thing is orange lol here is a bit more ofan in depth mention the only difference with the 562 vs 560 over here is the bar mount and airfilter and top cover , so powerwise they are the same as 560 xp i have a 562 as all my bars from 15 -36 are 009 so cant be bothered too much with K095 mount the 560 has so the video is relevant to the 555, the 555 will be fine compared to the 560 as it a fair bit cheaper 555xp 4.3 hp 560 4.7hp
  22. My Pals 395 xp has got a split along the top seam on the fuel tank , tried to melt it together with a solder iron then cleaned it with thinners and coated it with araldite epoxy but its leaking again , huge long shot but does anyone on here have a fuel tank for sale from a dead 395 XP ? that i could buy, to get it going again so its not pouring out fuel on its side
