  2. wee set up o saws stihl 009 , husky 460XT husky 61(266XP top end ) 385XP and 372XP
  3. Yeah i thought that , something i,m looking at just for fun and a little mod , do cut up some big dead stuff for clearing so does be dusty at times , but i clean my saws after each use really so its no big deal with the std filter couple o pics with the muffler mod on the 385xp and a little fun with a log last week
  4. hmm ok , what ive seen on ebay covers these models , a lot of the 385 stuff seems to fit my 372 , but i havnt swapped the low top covers over yet to try ,good spot tho , need to look into it if bothered , probably the carb intake is different too , seems to be the case on most of the high tops ,
  5. yeah i now , but would rather throw some notes in someones pocket than a dealer , if stuff was lying around
  6. Hi Guys , Anyone on here have the high top filter cover and big filter lying around maybe for sale ? think i,ll get one for the 385XP , just for fun, i know the std filter is fine if kept clean , but just an idea for a small mod as its now a twin port muffler thanks Roy
  7. thanks guys , i,ll prob stick to the Aspen at 50:1 , never had an issue but not used a 85 cc saw until now so was just wondering
  8. Hi Guys , i now have a used 385 xp and use Aspen on my 3 saws,61(266XP top end) 372 xp and the 385 xp , looking at some forums i seen some folk use 40:1 or 32:1 even on big saws , is this old school way or is the modern synthetic oils or Aspen 2 fine with the 385 at 50:1? i used to use husky xp oil at 50:1 but changed to Aspen which i like , i can obviously work out how much extra XP oil will be used to make it 40:1 , but is it worth it , any input will be appreciated .
  9. here are some pics , the first is the clutch cover from my 2013 372 XP , fitted right on and is the same part No as the one thats damaged , but isnt the part No listed, other pics are of the damaged and distorted clutch cover that came with the saw ,
  10. yeah sorry it is the clutch cover i meant , it has the side adjuster and its using my loaner just now from my 2013 372 xp , but i still havn't managed to track down a replacement , yet , do you have one ?
  11. nice i,m loving mine , did a bit of bucking yesterday on some 24 inch pine and some Elm , rips through it
  12. nice saw there , bit different to mine , high fliter cover, side exit ehaust , big felling dogs and full wrap :-)
  13. I did search through the part numbers for the 385 xp and the number you quoted is indeed the correct one , but with the 372 xp cover on its fits pefectly and was no issue today with a full tank of Aspen through it blocking up some big pine , unless i can get a correct cover to see the difference, those covers i listed will do if anyone on here has one for sale ?
  14. well after a strip down of everything i discovered the issue which was hidden in the handle , the spring in the pawl which activates the brake was somehow jammed in the corner which restricted the movement of the pawl as it compressed the spring to bind it which jammed it up while partially activating it , but not enough to get the brake to catch the drum , ,no idea how it got like that , but as the cover was almost in new condition i think it was a warranty job when fairly new and was replaced and left as a spare ever since , problem sorted and now works as it should here is a pic of how the spring was in the cover i got off Ebay to replace my really worn out one , the pic is a demonstration from my original cover as i didnt have phone at the time i was working on the replacement
  15. hmm dunno , i took the one off my 2013 372 and it fits right on perfectly so i dont know what the differences are ? the part no i quoted is from the damaged cover , but it may be wrong as you say ,
  16. Hi Guys , recently got a 385 xp and have discovered the the clutch side cover is damaged , whoever had it previously repeatedly used excessive force to tighten the bar nuts or it got jammed in a big log or something which has cracked the casing and buckled it a bit which has over time worn the alloy away and the bar tensioner will only travel 2/3 of the way up due to the distortion , it still works ok but its irrititating me now , anyone have a decent casing they could sell me ? , its the same casing fitted to most of the bigger 3 series saws , 365/371/372/385 390 and the 570/575 , OEM part No is 537 00 40 with side adjuster thanks for any input Roy
  17. Hi Rob , i,ll be returning the 20 " sugi lite pro bar i mistakenly ordered for the wrong mount .DUH ! i,ll be replacinig it with a 28 ' Light pro for my 385 XP , So i,ll post it back and sort it out , as in the mail we had the other correctly ordered 20" bar is on the 372 and has done a bit of work is the biz and gets some looks from folk :-)
  18. maybe i,ll just let it sit and use the 254 xp or the 372 xp or the just purchased 385 xp
  19. yes mine is the Sweda Matic one , and has the round screw , which when fully tightened down till its actually tight and goes no further it still does not let the band grab the drum , i stated in my post somewher ei got a new one from Ebay , i meant a new one to me , it is an original used one , with signs of use , but in very good condition, so it baffles me
  20. Hmm ok , i,ll need to cross ref some part numbers of individual parts then, both covers i have are the alloy ones , but strangely even my original brake band does not work with the new cover/handle so there is some dimesion differences somewhere , i had a look through the manual and it says to adjust the adjusting screw on the band till the chain cannot be turned then back it off 4 turns , i have tightened it fully tight so it runs out of threads unless i can make up a small steel spacer or something to fill the gap , but i dont think that will work as the threaded bit that comes through the hole seats in the mechanism so cannot come through any further , doing my nut in, i,m real mechanical minded and love pulling stuff apart , but something just doesnt add up here
  21. thanks for the reply , yes it is the metal loop brake and the lever cam part is in front , and it does have the knurled handle butthe securing slotted nut which screws on to the brake band its purpose i believe is to secure it in place , but on the old one if its loosened by a few turns it has the same effect of not grabbing the drum when its activated , thats why i think the dimensions somewhere is different i dd adjust knurled that back and forth , but i think thats there so if the handle loop touches it maybe under high loading in a cut it activates? and has a set gap , which i set it to the original one , it does activate easily by hand and releases easily , but when activated it funtions good and goes with a right sharp crack but the engine revs up easily with just a very slight scuffing noise due to the band just barely touching the drum but its just not grabbing it , i dont have pics just now as i,m working away from home , but i,ll i,ll post some when i,m back
  22. Hi Guys ,Newbie on here , i have an issue with my 1985 greytop metal brake 61 , its been a good saw of mine for a long time (266XP top end ) anyhoo i recently gave it a bit of a work over , new vibe rubbers ,new oil pump (nothing wrong with the original one ) new clutch and sprocket ,stripped cleaned the carb and rebuilt and it ran as good as ever , while it was apart i found a crack in the clutch cover and the pins on the metal brake were worn and it rattled at idle so i got an original cover and brake off Ebay in very good nick and the part numbers on both covers were identical , however when i fitted the cover the chain brake operated as expected but didn't stop the chain, it was just about scuffing the drum , thought hmm something different here , i refitted the original complete cover and it worked perfectly on the new spur sprocket /drum i bought and the original rim sprocket/drum which i replaced ,so i took it all apart and checked the rocker, spring , everything looked perfect , took out the brake band and compared it to the old worn one (which worked perfect at high rpm's ) and looked the same size , but had a slit in the centre about 3/4 of it length , so i fitted my original old one to the cover i had bought thinking it must be a different band , rebuilt it all and it still doesnt work , So question is , does this cover fit other saws with a different size of clutch drum ??even though the part number is the same . i have a spur and rim and both work on the original but neither work with the new one . its very strange as the length of the band where it goes through the spring and is attached to the brake is exactly the same , the length of the threads is the same and the locking screw is the same amount of turns till tight on both bands so i,m at a loss Anyone had this issue on metal brake saws ?? thanks Roy
