Some of it is fair enough ie companies not paying or sub standard work but a lot of its a sign of the times we live in. Companies throwing loans and cash at you at crazy near criminal interest rates. The throwaway consumer society we live in where we are encouraged to have the next best new thing, Private sector rentals etc etc. Saw one recently where a whole family was put out before Xmas by a private landlord, watching that just brought home how easy it is to end up in that situation ie self employed and a bad injury or whatever and it doesn't take much before your backs to the wall. Few years back whilst looking for a house I went to see a house that turned out to be a Bank repossession, kids bedrooms still had toys and pics etc on walls seeing that was enough for me I walked out then and there as I knew that's all id ever associate the place with.

Hi Yeah it may not be but the symptom's you both describe and the lights coming up sound very much like one of the speed sensors that are on each wheel failing and sending a dodgy signal back in to the system, one of other signs will be the hill start assist not working, The first time it did it with me was with a fully loaded tri axle ifor coming up to a junction and the ABS kicked in on a dry road needless to say the braking performance was not great and I resorted to the handbrake to help matters. Mine is a 65 plate 3.2 and its had 3 all done under warranty on the last visit I asked unsuccessfully for the 4th and last original one to be done rather than waiting for it to fail. Fitter at the main dealer told me its a known common fault and the replacements are an upgraded item. Craig your warning lights may not be on now but my experience would say it will happen again and may go on and off a few times but will end up staying on. To be honest because of what the affect it has on the braking system it should in my view be a recall item or at least offer to change them at service intervals as like I say they are well aware of the issue.

What year and model ranger, is the abs functioning intermittently or at least sounding like it is even on dry roads.

That's an evolutionary trait im afraid. Ive learnt the hard way just to go and sit in the pick up and wait as previous attempts at complaining have led to the subsequent journey being taken in excruciating silence. Did try a wise crack one day about her neck hurting seeing as she was staring out the passenger window the whole time but funnily enough that wasn't much of an ice breaker neither.

Hi Yeah thought of that and the use of a full width tailgate to allow that to happen but all of those options need the ramps to stay in place and the log to come at it dead straight. Having the snatch block in the centre of the A frame allows the winch wire fleet angle to stay perfect regardless of what angle im pulling the log in from and keeps the nose off the ground and stops it digging in, Like I said its not the perfect solution but it works for me and has lifted on some pretty decent size pieces up to now. Few more things left to do to get it where im totally happy but for now it will do. The driving force behind doing it was having a good size elm log roll off the two atv ramps I was using to load from one side then rolling down one shin and ending up with battered and bruised foot, hobbling off down a forestry track feeling sick with the pain was a great motivator and a reminder I aint getting any younger LOL

Hi All As has been said like all things in life there is no one perfect tool to do every job. My own solution was put together to fit my own circumstances i.e. personnel use primarily oversize lumps for milling. Basically its fag packet engineering but put together reasonably well, not perfect but it does what I need it to do and cuts the manual handling element down dramatically. most of the cost came from the rams and hyd pump I was very lucky in that the winch came out of a skip and was easily repairable plus I did the cutting and tacking up myself to keep costs down . Got the pins etc machined by a mate in inverness who does great one off machining/welding stuff at very decent prices proper old school grab a brew and chat about it and stay until its done type of set up. Not the best of pics but im sure you get idea of it, basically there's a snatch block on A frame that winch wire is passed though once log is up on back of trailer I drop the wire out of the snatch block and normally just pull it on although a couple of times I've used a small chain block off the A frame to get the log horizontal. Like I say possibly not everyone's cup of tea but I looked at HI AB type set ups and the nose weight etc. issues put me off plus costs were too high. Total cost to me has been around the 650-700 mark up to now.

3.0 V6 land rover Engine

Yeah I hear what you are saying I ran a patrol with ZD 30 engine for 9 years and took it up to 153 K yet they were supposed to be prone to going bang or so some forums would have you believe. The Farmer with the Disco 4 was quoted 12k by Land rover for the second engine as it was out of warranty. The tech at the dealership told him they are having the same jobs come in on a weekly basis. Prior to the 4 he was running a 2.7 Disco 3 The son drives a 110 pick up and plays off road with an ex MOD 90 the daughter drives a evoque so id say they too are rather keen on the product. Yeah they are definitely good sellers for sure but that the 3.0 V6 engine has some serious issues, Im sure some more knowledgeable people will comment on what's causing them to let go.

Hi all Yet another 3.0 V6 letting go. happened to a good friend of mine in the outside lane on the motorway at 70MPH very lucky to get away with it as lost all power steering etc . Thankfully under warranty. Another farmer I know with a Disco 4 is now on his second replacement engine both previous having been bottom end failures. Neither of the vehicles were of great age or mileage. Just though id put the pics up as its one of the better rod and block failures I've seen.

Agree totally whilst she did not win with a majority parliament and id be first to say that the election campaign showed she is no natural show woman she did regardless of what some seem to think win the election.

As an aside ive not long returned from working in northern Germany on a job that had a mix of Brits, Germans, Dutch and a few others and the one thing I did notice especially amongst the German guys most of whom were from the former east Germany was a strong feeling of disillusionment with the ruling political parties in particular the Germans towards Merkel and the immigration issues her open door policies have created, be this perceived or real it was though the grass roots working mans opinion I heard not my own. I do not think the show of unity from the European leaders versus May is as strong as they would like to think, Merkel is in not exactly strong in Germany at the moment in particular and coalitions abound elsewhere. Unsurprisingly most of the guys on site whatever the nationality though most of their own politicians were shit too for what its worth, not sure how they would fare if they were transformed into socket sets. Anyway facom who cares

Well the sensible comments request sort of faded away in some of the tirades posted in the last few days did it not. Anyway maybe its just my opinion but one person that has gone up in my estimation is May herself considering she has been handed or rather thrown as fast as Cameron could get rid of it an absolutely thankless task. you only have to look at the divisive vitriol pumped out by some on here to realise the scale of the task she has on her hands in her own country and parliament. As for the actions of the fellow leaders and people she is having to deal with whilst at numerous summits and negotiations in Europe am I alone in thinking the have really shown what they are about during this whole process, Maybe with a bit more loyalty from her own party and the opposite benches our position would be far stronger sitting around the table with people whom seem to have one thing on the agenda and that is to make it very clear to anyone thinking of standing up to them this is how you will be treat. Anyway nearly went off on one there but dropping back to my original point I do think posterity will show May handled this totally thankless task with a degree of dignity and resolve that many of the self serving arse holes on both sides of he house never mind the smug individuals she face over in Europe would do well to try and emulate.

Hi Cheers for replies, Read a few previous posts that reckoned the difference was not that great in the scale of things so will probably stick with a 404 chain set up although undecided as to which make. Reason I asked with regards to Oregon ripping chains is I find they do not hold an edge well but have not had the chance to use any other make so cant really compare the two myself.

Hi All. Looking to bite the bullet and purchase a new MS880, Currently I use an MS661 for the milling I do with either 25 or 36 inch bars and made up off the roll Oregon ripping chains,. My question is what's your thoughts on the best bar and chain set ups available for the 880, it will only ever be used for milling and I do have the option to save a few quid and buy just the power head. Anyone else using the Oregon chains if so how you finding them ??. I've looked through a few previous posts on the same topic and have a good idea of what direction I will probably go but any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi has anyone taken a look at the rotary milling heads/wheels you can get for cutting trenches etc that attach to excavators, Not sure of hydraulic flow requirements etc but i do know they take a shocking amount of abuse on rock and ive used them on long reach machines down to 15m water depth so the damp and muddy conditions should not be an issue. only downside may be that the ones ive used did not rotate at a high RPM Anyway just a though as they are out there and in use.

Hi Nikk Hope things work out for you bud. Been there a few times over the years work wise i think one of main reasons is men who have worked for 30 years and still find themselves struggling to make ends meet etc start to lose the drive and get up and go sometimes its bloody hard to keep picking yourself up and ploughing on. Anyway regarding the rifles ive a couple of slots on my FAC im patiently waiting to fill and am also after some decent glass, What you parting with and prices please, PM me if you dont want to put it on here, Cheers Dave

Hi Yeah same engine so same issues ref chain etc, saying that we ran a 59 plate mammoth adventure model for 4 years with no hassle up to 109K. Pretty thirsty high 20s was real world figure, Road tax is harsh on the early ones i think it reduces dramatically on the 2010 onward models. All in all it was a good solid tool 7 seats were a great feature. to be honest the mrs is looking to go back to a pathfinder again after a year with a diesel insignia so i guess this says something positive

Indeed there is Joel77 I used to hold the old PTS and PICOW qual and did a lot of nights and weekend possesion work doing bank stabilisation work around yorkshire working hand in hand with teams doing the clearance work. We never stopped for rain and normally worked bloody hard every shift. Most lads on here are i suggest are fairly hard working and modest in as much as they wont brag as to what they are earning etc etc. one of my house rules for the kids is not to gloat !!. Probably a lot of truth in what you say is happening but right is right and what you describe can in no way be called the right way to carry out a job. But if your happy then crack on. Probably more how you portrayed the whole thing that has wound people up.

Hi Just curious how the problem manifests itself in regards to the LED lights as ive fitted LED,s into the ladder rack on an ifor and just wired into the spare spades on the bar within the box under the front left corner. So far ive no problems with the set up mind you its only on whilst reversing so not sustained use. On a different note in a previous post i stated that i was happy with my 65 plate wildtrack up to now but that only time will tell in long run, Well time has told and now its sitting in the dealer again. This is its 7th visit not including the shockingly over priced first service within the first 13 months and 17000 miles since purchase . Faults have ranged from minor electrical glitches to major ABS and braking system problems. Front left speed sensor went and this caused the ABS to believe its operation was required at the time it was bone dry and i was towing a loaded 14ft tri axle ifor end result was basically no brakes and having to use the handbrake to stop. After 3 trips to dealer they finally found fault . Windscreen wiper motor packed in cabin rattles something rotten and now blue tooth has packed in. First trip to dealer regarding blue tooth i was asked did it have blue tooth fitted as standard WTF !!! ive used it for a year its supposedly a top of range model you think they would know . Anyway thats the grumble over for now just wish i could get out of the deal im in to tell truth. they are a good tool when going ok and maybe ive been unlucky but the repeated trips to main dealer are proving to be a total pain. Unfortunately looking at the latest generation of pick ups i see more of a trend to lifestyle blinged up toys rather than a hard working well put together working tool.
