So last year you had a delay of a few mins caused by horses for the first time in 14-15 years ?‍♂️?‍♂️Come on J how often do we sit behind tractors or construction eqpt !! Should we ban them !!. Well J I think a lot depends if you come from an area with a lot of horses and a lot of drivers whom are horse aware. I’m from north east of England and was raised using horses in a working role, my sister also was brought up with them and competed in show jumping etc and latterly horse driving trials up to international level. A lot of drivers nowadays are probs unaware at what an unpredictable thing a horse can be, learning to drive around my home area horses were a common sight. End of the day you can’t dictate what uses the roads based upon wether you think it has a purpose or not J ?‍♂️?‍♂️. I’d hazard a guess and say statistics would prove that horses on the public roads are responsible for very few accidents as opposed to the antics of say, young drivers. mind you I do believe that kids under a certain age should not be riding or driving horses on public roads unaccompanied by an adult.

No I get that Les if time had been on my side that would have been the obvious choice, but the option to buy the logs was offered on a come today and make a decision short notice deal. basically site had to be cleared so I ended up with them a lot quicker than anticipated plus days after delivery I left to do a job in Germany. As regards the fork lift loading option the milling is mainly for myself so I’m under no time pressure admittedly it would make life easier but it would just be another piece of kit to store and look after that wouldn’t get used a lot of the time. As I said earlier I may part with the mill anyway once the last few jobs I had in mind are done.

Zero exit strategy in Scotland yet I’ve just been out myself to screwfix ?‍♂️Essential?? Not really if I was to be honest but credit to screwfix they have it reasonably well sorted. Went past a retail park containing a B&Q, bargain world, M &S etc and the place was rammed with long queues. You either go solid lock down or not the halfway house we are seeing is not really working. Even the burger van next to screwfix was open. Truth is many have had enough of being told to stay at home simple as that.

Yeah physical capability etc is limiting factor which ain’t funny at times. Bigger logs and a mill to deal with them is all well and good but you defo need loading/handling assistance.

Yeah I’ve got ramps etc but I’d probably increase a days productivity by 200% if I had access to a decent tele handler ?‍♂️, it’s only milling for myself so not an option in reality.

100% ? Oversize stuff I’ve been milling is maxing out my standard 130, the milling is the easy part it’s the winching up logs and turning the cants etc that’s the hard part, probs taking nearly as much time as the cutting.

Watching Bloomberg this morning and an article came up ref the EU expansion plan possibly being put on hold. If there ever was any doubt about the EUs primary function as an aid to big business and corporate needs the following statement would maybe point to its true function. “The six hopefuls in the continents south are ideally placed to become a supplier base for European companies seeking to reduce their reliance on China, according to the European bank for reconstruction and development”.

Definitely a colossal FU for sure and not like a top line manufacturer like leibher to get it that wrong, hook failed at 2600t on a test lift combine the whip back and the fact the vessel was heavily ballasted to compensate for the lift ended up with the jib coming over the top of the crane etc etc. I see the first of the jackets have arrived in Nigg manufactured in UAE to be shipped here 100 of them ??. Such a disgrace that a UK firm could not have done the work with the resultant benefits to this country and for that matter why are we letting overseas firms benefit from a Uk wide resource etc etc . I despair at the people running the show at times. Before anyone says about cost etc I’ve seen ship and fab yard conditions in the Middle East and the predominantly foreign workforce etc. UK taxpayers will end up lining pockets of a foreign company yet again. Good article Mark and some interesting points. To try and prepare for a multitude of different scenarios is difficult to say the least. The structures involved within the NHS and the management format does not help I’d say in planning for such a variety of scenarios. Surely going forward the procedures, planning and procurement of eqpt to cover every possible event regardless how crazy it may seem will be put in place, right from having the correct PPE to a firm border closure and travel restrictions plan. Good few years ago I worked at Sellafield on a decommissioning project, after a rather large fuck up they invoked a process called a Haz ops review that involved everyone from all levels and disciplines, we ended up sitting in meetings for a month to thrash out every possible scenario from minor incidents to crazy crazy off the wall events. Procedures were devised to deal with every one of them, whilst the process was excruciating it did enable the project to go forward and be completed successfully. Mind you it did go from being a planned 6 months to 3 years to complete ?‍♂️
