  1. I was making a point, that not everything improves over time.. something better is found instead.. much like we don't go to work on a horse these days....
  2. I'm basing my opinion on good science not a gut feeling.. not to mention thunderfoot knows what he's talking about.. he doesn't work in the nuclear science industry for nothing.. he knows his stuff... if he suspects battery power has reached its limits I have to agree.. because he explains why it can't get much better due the laws of thermodynamics... you can't keep squeezing energy into an ever smaller mass, because that means it becomes ever more unstable... its not something anyone will ever get around, because its not something that can be done...
  3. I'm sure the fella you spoke to is very well informed.. as I'm sure he believes battery technology will improve.. But thinking it is not the same as seeing the evidence...
  4. Most, I'd say occasionally when justified.. my use of the word cowardice is a bit more nebulas as well.. though in essence it means the same.., afraid to admit a truth for fear of its consequences..
  5. sort of like running a long extension lead behind your electric car.. seems a bit odd that you'd bleat about the benefits of battery power storage only to be so terrified you might be caught short you end up still tethered to the damn thing you're trying to decouple from.. Its basically cowardice masking itself as self sufficiency.. as bad as those virtue signally left wing loons we all come across in the media and politics.. be green like me, only don't look to hard at the evidence...
  6. Why is "Alex" still tethered to the grid?.. apparently battery power is better and cheaper.. bit of a puzzler that one..
  7. if battery power is so good why you even paying a bill?... you still sucking on the national grids tits are you.. face it, all this solar battery powered saving is a subsidized gimmick to promote alternative energy as a way to make make people think about conserving power more than actually converting to it.. I'd like to see a thirty yr cycle of the actual running costs as well, and not the subsidized five or ten yr cycle of a subsidized system.. have you worked out the costs of the bill including all the maintenance and installation costs.. something tells me it ain't anywhere near a few quid a month..
  8. putting aside most diesel comes from crude oil, can you manufacture diesel in the quantities needed to replace petrol as a fuel source.. and as cheaply?.. no you can't.
  9. I've watched hundred of vids of people living off grid using battery power.. most of em give up eventually.. or if they don't its because they haven't the means to.. they're not the panacea they're made out to be.. I think the channel, pure living for life summed it up.. went to live off grid and eventually baled and installed electric.. its no fun living with genies and batteries, it easier all round to have a wire carry electric to your home.. in fact other than people living miles out the way, you'd be a complete moron to go over to batteries or a gennie as your power source...
  10. hahaha think you got me didn't you.. well if you'd of read all I've said on the subject I did say that batteries have their uses for chainsaws.. being quiet an all they'll do for jobs were noise is an issue.. which is why I like the idea of em.. but can't recommend on account of their poor performance against a petrol chainsaw...
  11. Has anyone come up with an alternative to crude oil yet?.. if they did that they'd be the richest person in the world.. how long have they had?, how long will it take?... humans can only do so much.. we can't engineer our way out of something nature has created over millions of yrs... Battery power is fine for what it is, but it'll never compete with natures black gold.. bear in mind all those inventions were the result of crude oil.. its portability, its power to weight.. its utility.. nothing comes close or will come close.. another thing, half the power of petrol comes free by mixing the fuel with air, batteries have to have all their power tied up in its power pack.. another reason why petrol power is more efficient.. what about steam engines as well, according to you all we needed do was keep increasing their effeminacy.. perhaps leading one day to steam engines being as efficient as petrol engines.. begs the question why industry bothered with oil in the first place... batteries are not the same thing as heart transplants or computing capacity.. its a simple case of condensing energy for storage... you can only condense energy so far. no matter what we invent going forward. that storage still has to abide by the laws of thermodynamics.
  12. I wish you wouldn't attempt a thread derail by getting personal.. anyway, if you'd of watched the vid and had the capacity to understand whats bein got at, you'd understand why battery power is never gonna replace petrol on small engines for chainsaws.. which is the point of the thread is it not... battery power is only ten percent of petrol power on a power to weight ratio.. I doubt that gap will ever be bridged.. or looked at another way, for one gallon of petrol, 5 kilos you'd need many more kilos of batteries on site to get the same amount of work done if you had no charge point.. a couple of batteries on a pruning saw sunday morning and battery saws are great, otherwise a waste of good money... I do have a battery powered strimmer, stilh... a waste of time... ok for the home owner who don't know no different but for the professional gardener no use nor ornament..
  13. this might be of some use if your interested.....
  14. Paranoid me!!!!... never.. who's got the tag line, just because your paranoid doesn't mean they ain't out to get you.... always makes me laugh when I see that..
  15. 77% of voters agree with me... though I'm sure not for the same reasons.. most might imagine battery power isn't there yet.. I'm saying it will never get there...
  16. Not so good a job if you want to use that motor in arb production though is it!!!.. ?
  17. Do you mean me? ☹️ Vid of thunderfoot explaining why batteries are as good as they're likely to get any time soon.... or why petrol power is the perfect fuel for use on small engines... in fact most any engine... The gist of the argument is condensing energy into ever smaller volumes creates instability, which in turn makes some batteries very dangerous if they combust.... other than batteries are at the apex of their design thats not to say they aren't any good in a chainsaw.... if your starting early morning or of a weekend battery pruning chainsaws come into their own... will they ever replace petrol chainsaws?.... unfortunately not... Celia.............. you don't need bother investigating any further than this post by me... it explains it all.... I wish battery powered small engines would become more useful and replace petrol engines... unfortunately its never going to happen...pity.
  18. I'm sure it is....
  19. As Micheal Angelo once said, for the paint, a few pennies.. for the talent?.... Just a bunch of stone and mortar you say!!!... Don't firemen put their lives on the line to save buildings?....
  20. False equivalence, I said some buildings are worth dying for .. ie some building are more important than people.. take Notre Dame for instance.. all over the news, now if your house burned down no one would give a monkeys... I dare say if a rampaging mob was set on burning your house down you'd rope in a few friends to defend it.. if a mob was set on burning down the houses of Parliament there'ed be an army ready in waiting....
  21. This part is complete bollocks... Building are worth more than lives, at least some are.. How many Jews died defending Jerusalem during the Roman Invasion to put down their rebellion?... Do you think they would of put their lives on the line for a mere building or two?.. but they did for their temple.. a friend used the same argument some yrs back when the riots in London were taking place, I suggested the army shoot em all on sight.. but they're only building being burned down he said.. Fine I said, go out shopping and I'll burn your house to the ground, tell me then its just a building...
  22. Did grenfell tower get built a thousand yrs ago?.. No, Notre Dame is of much more significance than a shitty tower block built in the sixties.. people define themselves by the iconic buildings in their countries.. its what makes a people a people.. what they did in times past.. what they built.. No one is gonna miss a crappy tower block in two hundred yrs.. on the other hand Note Dame would be missed as one of Europe's finest Cathedrals..
  23. Some of the online personalities I follow suspect fowl play.. been a couple of churches burned down of late in France as well as other desecration's.. if I'm not mistaken the area around Notre Dame has a heavy Muslim presence... I'll await the the results of any investigation before I pass judgement mind....
  24. I'd guess statistically speaking most people are honest.. including workmen.. so no surprise someone puts trust in a workman going about his business... The only reason I refuse to take cash upfront is it kills the job when you've already been paid.. mind you that doesn't include paying for parts..
  25. A couple of months back a local Councillor I know posted some anti vaccine crap up about the flue vaccine casing autism.. I asked her to post a link to the site that proved that was true, I got a site full of absolute tosh full of conspiracy theories and quack medical advice.. one of which explaining a fruit only diet to beat cancer.. Ah that explains it I thought.. I sub to the chipper guy on utube, a couple of yrs back his wife got cancer and she wanted to beat it her way.. the camera panning to a bowl of fruit. died a yr later.. Mu own opinion is that these vaccines do have a reaction on a handful of people out of every million vaccinated. what can you do, tell that to the general public and everyone will imagine its their child its gonna happen to. best to say nothing and get as many people vaccinated as possible for the greater good..
