  1. Exactly what I do. Ifor Williams 12ft high side tipper. Full load costs me £40 to tip at local greenwaste site. Every time I have thought of a shredder (I did even have a Bearcat PTO one) I know it is not worth spending the money on a shredder for what we do.
  2. I sell unprocessed timber, in pieces one person can lift and carry, for £30 per cubic metre. Nobody complains at that price, seem happy to pay it.
  3. Never even heard of Boombox. Done all except that.
  4. Change it to a Hilux Invincible X 🤣
  5. I have an Ash that we planted 23 years ago, it was from a nursery ie ? imported. In recent years the top half of the crown has died back in keeping with adb. As it is not a hazard where it is we have left it to observe the progress. Whilst the top half is clearly dead the bottom half is flourishing, so we will continue to observe. A couple of slightly younger Ash, self set in our hedges have been doing well, and they are in close proximity to the poorly one. Interesting to see how things go.
  6. Follow this link to the gov. website /assets/static/govuk-opengraph-image-dade2dad5775023b0568381c4c074b86318194edb36d3d68df721eea7deeac4b.png Employment contracts: Written statement of employment particulars - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK A contract is an agreement between employee and employer setting out implied and explicit terms and conditions - written statement of particulars, collective agreements It tells you what you need to put in a contract. There are loads of free templates available online, just google "employment contract template". I think I found one years ago on the gov website. If you can find one there I would tend to trust that most.
  7. Very good. Can't beat a bit of lateral thinking. Or do we call it something else these days?
  8. Depends on the firm doing the inspection. I have found that some put a sticker on the machine at each inspection, but others do not. I don't know if this a requirement beyond having the paper certificate of inspection. Interestingly, when my new CMC spider arrived the dealers put a new Loler on it, but with new climbing or lowering kit it does not need Loler inspection until it has been in service for 6 months.
  9. I only had demonstrations from Hinowa and CMC, but both said that a machine built in the 90's, like my Aerial, was built more solidly than the newer stuff. I never accused my 1959 Fordson Power Major of being flimsy!
  10. Agreed entirely, I have the same machine. Also good is the fact it can operate in vertical mode for really heavy rings/lengths. I also have a four way head for it and this is quick on appropriately selected pieces. Excellent value.
  11. I started this thread in June last year. In August I committed to purchasing a new CMC18F spider left, and took delivery in February this year. So far I am delighted with it. Honda petrol engine is quiet, and we often use it on 230V mains as we are largely domestic, so power usually available. It gives 11m outreach for 80kg, and 230kg up to 8.7 metres.
  12. My new CMC 18m spider certainly flexes more than my 1996 road tow 16m Aerial K16T. I don't think the wobble in the basket mounted looked like a sign of good mechanical health.
  13. Seems like a perfectly straightforward up front type of question to me. If it was nearer I would be offering my services, with my arthritic knee and recent hand surgery to boot. Looks a simple enough job for any competent climber.
  14. You haven't said how much you pruned the trees. If you haven't taken anything more than 2 inch diameter off, and haven't climbed up a large tree and reduced the height of it I am sure your fears are ill founded. One of our local tree officers made it clear to me when I used to look after the grounds and trees of the former "county asylum" which was covered by a blanket TPO, that he did not feel I needed to tell him every time I needed to do minor pruning with a handsaw - he was already drowning in paperwork. As has been said earlier on, most tree officers are pretty sensible and it is more when people blatantly and wilfully disregard the rules that they have to take action. Sleep well!
  15. OMG, are those adverts really that old. What about the Rover adverts where they film in Germany and say "Ja, designed by British Architect, i just like the way it's put together"?
  16. If it is a council owned garage that it not currently in use I think I would be tempted to do a quick repair and say nothing. As has already been said, council very unlikely to take common sense approach to it, far more likely to go overboard. A couple of years ago one of our local councils charged us £50 for a permit to take our machinery on their rough grassland to clear away a tree that had fallen from our customer's garden onto their land. A few weeks later when a chap came with a wagon and hiab to remove the fairly large stump and rootball from the same patch we just didn't tell them.
  17. Not wishing to sound smug in any way, but I guess the learning point here is to put some boards on the roof carefully, to avoid just this problem. Yes - I learnt from making a similar sized hole in a similar roof. Customer was fine, and happy with my repair, which I think was fibreglass on a dry day.
  18. Very much looking forward to hearing and seeing more from you again.
  19. Welcome to Mastermind. What is your chosen subject? Stating the patently bleeding obvious your honour. 😀
  20. I have always regarded your comments/entries on this forum with the utmost respect. I actually mean that sincerely, not tongue in cheek. However, I could not possibly respond to this latest post of yours on such a public forum like this as honestly as I would like to!!
  21. So often it is the people with bigger properties and bigger cars who want to "lose the VAT". Mrs Reasonable, the widow living at number 13, just accepts that VAT has to be paid. She's my ideal customer.
  22. A few points to clarify: 1) Do you know what sort of tree it was? 2) Are these new shoots 100% definitely arising from the roots? Just that the stump looks like a conifer stump to me, and also there is no yellow discolouration around the edge of the stump that I would expect if glyphosate liquid was applied. If glyphosate was applied as "eco plugs" these would be easy to spot. If it was a conifer the roots would definitely not sprout, and also there would be no need to apply stump killing stuff in the first place. I am wondering if it could have been a Willow? Not seen these sprout from the roots myself. Short of digging out the roots i would think your best bet is to apply glyphosate to the foliage on the new shoots.
  23. This applies to you capital. You can also give money away without inheritance tax implications, as long as you can prove it came out of income rather than capital. For example, if one of you children needs their house roof replacing you can pay for this out of income, then die within 7 years but have no IHT implications.
  24. Interesting comment. Do you mean there are some who don't know how to run it as a business efficiently (I didn't think you meant that), or there are some who aren't 100%, or possibly any%, dependent on it to feed themselves, which I think you meant. I am lucky enough to be in the latter group, rather than the former.
