  1. Whereabouts in Ireland are you moving to?
  2. Our instructor said "As thick as the thickest part of your forearm.
  3. Did you ever see the YouTube video where they cut the fomorial artery of an anesthetized pig, then stop the bleeding with a Celox gauze? Pretty gnarly...pig was euthanized afterwards. Wouldn't post it here, but its easily found, just proves the product works as advertised.
  4. Gonna have to recommend something by the German/Ausrian big three Haix, Meindel or Lowa, they make steel toe boots based on the military design for riot police, firefighters etc. I have a second hand pair of Haix Airpower81 I think they called. Goretex, steel toe, steel sole shank, very comfortable. I've hiked in these boots. Will set you back a couple hundred though...just found the site, my boots must be an old model, very similar to the hightop boots further down the page. https://www.haix.co.uk/search?sSearch=airpower&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxZPgBRCmARIsAOrTHSZ7bJtplKz8V1zeRMTE8dQDJDPnM570Ljs5tqIdsw5uD69TQ-S3B-MaAvW5EALw_wcB
  5. Well sure if its a big spruce or something, with handy small branches every couple of feet. Many trees are not like that though
  6. I don't think I've ever felt the need to do a pull up in tree, never mind a one handed pull up. Normally you climb the ropes, not the tree.
  7. Well, as I thought, the 161 has a bigger sprocket than the 160 - 9 tooth as opposed to 7 tooth. This accounts for the higher chain speed. But the motor must be producing more torque as well, so it's pulling more amps. My question is: is it actually a new and different motor, or is it the same motor as the 160, but with a different chip? In short, has the motor been throttled in the 160, and opened up for the 161, and marketed as "new"? I can find a part number for the motor for the 160, but not for the 161. In fact, no parts AT ALL for the 161. I can find zero parts diagrams, useful images, teardown vids, or discussion about this matter for the 161. It almost feels like a media blackout. If my 160 actually turns out to be a throttled 161 with a smaller sprocket...well, I'll be looking for a way to "un-throttle" it. Anybody shed some light on this?
  8. Make it a criminal offence to be in possession of any tool without a stamped serial number. Random spot checks on homeowners with powers to enter and search. Public database so people can check if the tools they own are listed as stolen, and an amnesty period to turn in. You can't stop people who don't respect the law, when there is a market for stolen tools. Kill the market, put the fear into those who buy second hand. And conduct sting operations with naming and shaming, high publicity on telly.
  9. Well why not? Why shouldn't countries be self sufficient in the things that they produce in abundance? Do we (you, UK)) really need to import lamb from New Zealand? Wine from France? South America and the States produce decent wine. Cheese can be made just about anywhere nowadays to be like cheese from anywhere else. In Ireland we have locally made Buffalo Mozzarella, from actual buffaloes, in Aldi. As good as Italian buffalo mozzarella to my tastebuds. Certain things, commodities like steel and fossil fuel obviously are location dependant. Just being a banking and "services" economy is really dangerous in the long run, makes for vulnerability in my mind. Quality of life is a real thing, and the cornucopia of choice we have today as consumers actually does no improve it, I feel. There comes a point at which you have so much choice on the shelves that it becomes silly, and food going to waste because theres too much there to sell it all.
  10. Is there an option to plant something else which would be more tolerant of clay soil?
  11. This just reminded me about a video by Gerald Berenek. I'll leave it here... I think we are very quick, these days, to accuse our ancestors of "crimes" - against humanity, nature etc. On the issue of the individual wellingtonia in question, I'm in agreement with the thread, it should have been left alone.
  12. Two things have not been discussed yet - vibrations and decibels This may be a non-issue for you. Personally I hate them, the less vibes the better, the noise not so important. Especially if you're ringing up big logs, lot of trigger time. My 461 blew the driveshaft bearing and is in bits. I would not chance another. Went for the 441c-m to replace and very happy so far. Lower vibes, but quite loud.
  13. Micro pully for sure, and a distel. Eye to Eye is super tidy though, worth it for the small price I feel. Saves the strength of your arm.
  14. 75% of Irish livestock exports are to the middle east (just before Ramadan, incidentally) - why shouldn't British sheep farmers export to the USA?
  15. Clap. Clap....Clap..
  16. Exactly. And there's no "barred list" inside the door and no bouncers. And it's a lock-in. Yay.
  17. There are instructional videos on YouTube about the correct application of tourniquets. You can also apply to stop the bleeding (arterial) then address the bleed with other measures and then slacken off the tourniquet. They reckon 2 hours is safe, even up to 6 in some cases. The problems arise with homemade tourniquet's that are too thin, too tight, not properly positioned etc. As for my homoeopathic kit, it has saved me countless hours of pain from whacked shins, sprains etc. It won't stop an arterial bleed, but for dings it works, for me. And for others who have tried it.
  18. Who else hates them?
  19. I'm of the same mind. Actually don't really care about breaking certain "laws" up to a point. I put up my aluminium access tower for painting and maintenance jobs, sometimes on a public sidewalk, and I don't hold a scaffolding ticket. People smoke marijuana and feel totally entitled to do so, even though it's breaking the law. Laws are only worth obeying if they are actually for the public good - i.e. Not stealing, hitting, or going toilet in the street. Or if they can be enforced, and if the punishment is horrible enough to make it not worth the risk, even though the chances of being caught are virtually nil. When the nanny state pulls new "laws" out of you know where, people just know if they are morally binding or not. It's situational. To blindly obey every law on the books is to be a blind slave to the state rather than being guided by conscience. If you actually read up the HSE fines they scale with the ability to pay, and the severity of the breach. Multimillion pound companies are hit will massive fines, but small operators would be looking at around ten grand or so, for a death. Obviously that's separate to any civil suits... For something like a one man band being caught red handed without lolered equipment...you could expect a finger wagging and an "improvement notice". I mean really...if we are going to accuse people of giving the sector a bad name, do lets accuse the right people, and you all know who I mean.
  20. Aloft, nothing except a CeloxZ-fold Rapid. On the ground, Celox, CAT tourniquet and Israeli bandage. And a whistle. In the van, CPR Faceshield, a proper one, rescue remedy, burn treatment pad, various bandages and gauses, band aids, iodine tincture, painkillers, and most importantly, an eye cup and some tubes of saline. And wipes and all that. And a travel homoeopathic kit. Also, some elbow, wrist and knee Velcro compression wraps for strains.
  21. I do love a bit of an auld flame-war. You know, it might be time to consider a MEWP for the oaks if they're really that bad. May lose your profit, but sometimes you just do...but at least you will have beaten the job and can move on.
  22. Just curious - what's a "melt"?
  23. Wow, I just checked that and you are right. He's cleaned his slate!
  24. Good man yourself, well worth it. Beraneck also produced a series of videos, they're pricy though.
  25. Anyone here ever tried wearing a wetsuit to work under their clothes? I expect you'd want to talcum power up first, with a set of spandex pants and top as well.
