1. Husqvarna 281XP Chainsaw | eBay seller got stropy with me when I asked if it was stolen! Where do stolen saws end up? E-bay or car boot sales! no thief is going to loose sweat using a chainsaw!
2. I'd buy a new one as cheap as possible, Black Friday deals still available? keep the old one ,when you have a bit of spare time in the evening fix the old one ,with copy parts etc. You'll get a great sense of achievement when that saw runs again
3. See so many Husqvarna chainsaws on e-bay missing the metal serial number plate on the oil resevoir. 266,272 ,281's etc. Some of them have such tidy paintwork/condition that I doubt very much that they've gone missing through work. So my question is why? have thesev saws been stolen at some time? would you buy one? or is it a case of rewarding thieves!
4.
hi, just curious, posted your price for a Husky 395, what's your usuall selling price? cheers John

5. more like a happy Monday I'd say.. 395 xp with 28" bar for 687 quid, 824 including the Vat.Is this a good price? I've been looking for a while for a large saw second hand, not much cheaper than this.
6. In London ,no feedback. these saws havent been sold for 10+ years? smells fishy!
7. thanks for the info, just ordered one.
8. Do they work without connecting the cable? risky to tune under load without the top cover.
9. If your going to do heavy work, check out the max Gross Train Weight. usually very low for Kubota. and the engines did have a drink problem as tested by DLG in Germany.
10. If your Vat registered you might as well buy new. I've been looking at a large chainsaw for a while MS660 ,390xp, or 395 xp etc. A Stihl MS660 needing a piston and maybe cylinder made allmost 500 on ebay yesterday! think a lot of the bigger saws have been on mills, that's hard continuous work I would guess.Have a good google, see if there are better prices out there. Dealers arn't meant to post out Syihl chainsaws, but you can use the price to negotiate.
11. Mind you ,if all the rural garages close at the present rate, might have to get my fuel through the post!
12. Aspen might be wonderfull stuff, but on principal I will not pay 4X the money for a petrol substitute ! Margins are tight and it's a competitive world out there. Plus never had much if any problems with normal petrol.
13. I'm glad that I bought a Peterson. For a part time mill on a limited budjet arn't swing blade mills hard to beat? more so for large trunks that need a telehandler to move. Milled 15"x 5" x 20' beams for a barn a few days ago.they were heavy enough to slide onto the pallet forks once milled ,never mind trying to turn the whole trunk 90 degrees.
14. Looking for a debarker, the ad is still visable, but didn't get a reply. Anyone have any experience on using the belt driven chainsaw debarkers? and who sells them? tia John
15. Looking to buy a new chainsaw in the 90-100cc size to run up to 40" bar. What's the choice available? Stihl ms661, Husqvarna 395, and the Makita /Dolmar 9010. is there any other make of saw to consider? and is the Makita good, as they can be bought for about 700 quid inc the Vat. TIA john
16. Ad has dissapeared! Thought it was a bargain,no one bidding on it up to last night and I paid twice that for the one I bought! often listed on London Craig's List. never had any sense from the sellers! do they manage to con many people?
17. Are you allowed to sell Track Met machines all over the UK? as they have an agent in the west midlands. personally I'd buy with the most competitive price.
18. Are there many out there replacing the tungsten teeth themselves? I'm about to give it a go, need to fabricate a bit of a jig to hold the tooth in the correct position and angle. The teeth cab be bought for about 20pence! in large numbers. Found a very helpfull company online, who supplied me with 25 teeth for about 70p plus silver brazing and flux. Tungsten Carbide Solutions | Carbide Wear Parts, Saw Tips, Horse Cleaning the blade is the biggest job I would think, and not excessivly heating the carbide. any thoughts. John
19. The older 61's top cover needs a tiny hole cut in it for the spark plug boot, about an inch square. Newer ones ,fit OK. Seem to go well with the original 61 carbs, a big improvement in power.
20. Thanks Skc, are the original Peterson worth the extra? Been quoted less than £100 for a new blade from Atkinson Walker of Sheffield. Who also do doctoring at a reasonable rate.anyone used them?
21. Just bought a second hand 10" cut Wpf saw. But I need a pair of new blades to get me started. Any recommendations on a supplier/manufacturer, tia John
22. Chain saw parts on line.co.UK do the Meteor kits, you'll need the 52mm bore kit to get a 72cc saw. Also the intake bolts need changing on some of the older 61's if I remember. Mike at Sawbits supplies a full Hyway kit . have a search on eBay, might find a better price for a Meteor kit.
23. Husqvarna 61 is a good old chainsaw, but has an open port intake cylinder and was a lower powered semi pro. Buy a Hyway or Meteor big bore kit, takes the saw up to 72cc ,I've done two saws with these barrels ,excellent performance, but I always used a 20" bar on the original 61's .so 24-28 should be OK.
24. Peterson mills also listed on Craig's list London, same ads keep appearing, impossible to do a deal on them! Scam I think.
