  1. Thanks Adam, Heres some more pics - I've split a few logs now so you can see the grain
  2. Twigs and logs are deffo from the same tree
  3. Cheers Rowan Thats not such good news then, not very good firewood as I understand it
  4. I'm about to start filling my woodshed for next year and have been given some logs. I don't know what they are but they look like decent hardwood. I also have some twigs to help with ID. Anyone help identify them and will they make good firewood? Cheers all
  5. Thats interesting. White no sugars a non-starter then
  6. Probably won't be long before a travellers spokesman comes on here to complain about the racist language
  7. That'll be it Jon, Thinking about it I don't think they'd have had much coffee at all in the war would they? Didn't they use chicory or something? I reckon my Mum was brought up on something like that so she ended up with Mellow birds and Evap milk to try and keep that taste
  8. Sadly I can't help you out becasue I'm in Norfolk - I'd love to have them though. If anyone wants to get rid of logs up my way just let me know
  9. I reckon you're right Jon, must be a reason for it
  10. Hi Jon, I didn't much like it myself mate but each to their own. Maybe evaporated milk in coffee was something lots of folks did years ago then? I'd be interested to find out.
  11. If you want a posh coffee maker Jon you want to take a look in the coffee roastery up here. First time I went in David had a customer coming in to buy a machine for three grand. I thought that was a bit of a one off but next time I went in there was another customer spending another 3k lI went in the other week and he said take a look at our new coffee making machine, its the Rolls Royce of coffee makers and we're the dealers for them inow - 7k each. Theres no end of wealthy folk up here in North Norfolk with that kind of losose change to spend on a coffee maker for their second homes it seems.
  12. Hi Jon, you mean you actually liked that stuff
  13. Hi Jon, Ha, my Mum likes evaporated milk in her coffee too. You're the only other person I've come across that does that. I was brought up with that, plus two sugars, Mellow Birds she likes, scarred me for life. Mostly I'm a builders tea man, but I like my one cup of fresh coffee a day. Can't face instant anymore.
  14. Theres a lot of small coffee roasters around now. Has to be worth trying to support small local businesses I think? A friend of mine, David, runs this one: Grey Seal Coffee
  15. Heres a pic - Its base of trunk/root section of the tree. Overall its about 50cm square - 33cm diameter, or so, across that cut top section.
  16. Thats looking like a positive ID for cherry then :thumb up: I started splitting it then thought 'hang on' - maybe I'll keep a few of the big bits back for something else. Theres a real big stump thats probably too much bother to cut up for firewood anyway. Cheers all
  17. Thanks Paul, any good for firewood then? Its also as heavy as hell if that helps with ID
  18. I've picked up some free wood from a mate that I'm planning on using for firewood - question is what is it? He's not been in the house long so has never seen the tree in leaf. Apparently he had roots all over his lawn. Is firewood the best use for this? Many thanks
  19. I'm finding that the older I get the more I'm enjoying my own rudeness - Thye ask me if I'm me, I say yes its me, they start the speil, I realise its a junk call and just cut them off - gives me a nice warm glow allover
  20. So joshscott, you're in Nelson and you've made 111 posts. Is that for real? If it is I do hope you're standing on one leg Sorry to add to the piss poor banter
  21. You've done a great job there Bob I have a couple of four year old 'helpers' (twins) and a seven year old one too. They may just about be old enough to really help fill the log shed this spring I hope I'll post some pics of mine on here when its full again (not much to show right now)
  22. That looks like a very nicely built log store Bob - must have been a fair bit of work on that uneven ground?
  23. Looks exactly like sycamore to me
