  1. Might be a tad far for but will be felling oak on an ongoing basis from our own woodland and could supply sticks or milled or partially milled on our own bandsaw. No seasoned stock yet as we have only just got felling licence. Located near Dunstable. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. Well folks Adamnralph was thinking of selling his Trakmet so offered to buy it and the deal was done, I hope his Stenner 48 goes well. Itching to have a go but too busy this week, have a couple of oak sticks to start with and then 40 acres to go at which hasn't been touched in at least 60 years. Thinning application in and lots of very nice oak and ash to thin some will be up to 100ft. I'm a newbie to milling so might be asking a few questions.
  3. Might be interested, have tractor/trailer can you pm me address so I can see how long it might take to drive to. Is the oak newly felled? Is any if it small that would go in dump trailer or all sticks? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  4. What boiler is it? Fan setup/efficiency will make quite a bit of difference Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  5. Just saw your last reply, unfortunately I think unless you fit a buffer tank you are going to have problems. It's a lot easier with one, fill it up and let it roar away! My tank is 23000litres on 200kw boiler a bit ott maybe but does mean I can fire the boiler when I want to not when it runs out of heat Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. Assuming it's smoke they are complaining about? Something is wrong if it smoking much, it will smoke s bit on start up say 5-10mins then really should be zero smoke if the fuel is dry and fan doing its job, to burn properly it needs to be flat out for the whole burn so you need a big enough buffer tank to take all the heat otherwise it will switch to idle and start smoking. What sort of boiler is it? A higher flue will definitely help as well. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. I agree an old Stenner would be great but I don't know much about them and I would have to find one at the right price transport it set it up, there might be parts needing replacing servicing etc. A new 'tin pot' mill will work straight out of the box and be very saleable in few years, and quite frankly I haven't got the energy for another project - I want to spend my spare time doing the fun bit! That said if anyone wants to find me a Stenner help set it up etc in return for the use of it that would something I would be happy to consider. There is a forestor just popped up on eBay in High Wycombe, looks a bit of a heap but it's cheap, probably for a reason, anyone think it's worth looking at? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. Looking at a new mill for use mainly for my own projects, have quite a lot of oak, ask and beech to thin out of the woodland on the farm and lots of uses including oak framing new build and repairs to existing, feather edge, post and rail etc. Have three phase so thinking electric best as have no intention of going mobile and have telehandler for loading etc. Although I hope it will pay for itself in the long run I can't claim it will be an out and out commercial set up so needs to be good value shall we say so in the absence of other suggestions have narrowed down to HM 130 Woodland Mills or Trakmet 600 eco. I think the Trakmet has the edge at the moment as I think it has slightly bigger capacity? Flex is not a major factor as I intend to extend the bed significantly and bolt to a welded subframe, so build quality, ease of use, running costs are factors to consider. Anyone care to comment? I do intend looking at both but users opinions appreciated!
  9. No more lone working with chainsaws for me, last week was walking round a wood 300m from home just checking where I was going to be extracting firewood later on. Felt light headed, not right, rang home and the wife's mobile left messages, next thing I know wife finds me outside back door clearly not right. Must have blacked out, 20 mins unaccounted for, trip to a and e, cat scan etc no driving until seen neurologist and expect no driving for 6 months. Not good, but could have been a lot worse! Don't get complacent!
  10. Probably a bit far but I could take logs and chip if you get stuck, near Dunstable 22 m from Welwyn
  11. Bought my Thor from France at the end of last year, very easy to do and found a really good dealer. Splitter is great as well! Not sure about other makes but there is an importing agent for Thor who must be taking a big chunk as a middleman. I can understand importing agents for machine that need back up and service but for log splitters that could easily be looked after by individual dealers it seems a bit pointless and adds to price. I think the French agent was dealing with Thor direct, not 100% sure though.
  12. Thanks for replies, shame. This Lucas looks a bit better? Mobile Lucas portable Sawmill Forestry Model 8 (827), 8 1/2" cut | eBay
  13. Peterson Mobile Saw Mill Forestry | eBay Looks okish but have a feeling it's not, any knowledge or opinions?
  14. I'm looking to dry milled wood from my own woods as well as possibly offering it as a service and making it capable of drying firewood as well seems a sensible thing to do. I shouldn't have too much trouble keeping the temperature up as I have a 23000litre accumulator. Should be relatively cheap to install as accumulator is 300mm through the tin cladding separating the bays.
  15. Good thread, I have a Farm 2000 newly installed with a 20' by 20' spare shed bay right next to it. I would like to put a kiln in that can dry logs and milled timber. Using the hot water coming in at 80 C would it be relatively easy to control the heat for the two different needs? I guess for the milled timber it would need to be warm air recirculation rather than forced air and maybe just run higher temp for the firewood? By the way the new Farm 2000 HT boilers can burn both wood and straw and still get rhi's
  16. [ame] [/ame] One of these with a crane on would be a very useful set up
  17. Have a look at Flowfit website, they do all sorts of hydraulic gear, manual, electric and petrol at very reasonable prices. Manual 2.5t tipping kit with pump and ram £124+vat.
  18. Just had magik 13 kombi pto/electric delivered. Been splitting 1m billets and very pleased so far. Did a lot of research before buying and the safety aspect was a big influence. The vids on YouTube are not great, it's mainly the system around the splitter which dictates the overall speed. Lots of nice features, side lift for big stuff, adjustable return height, two speed down stroke.Very happy so far. Saved several hundred pounds buying from Europe, would prefer to have brought from uk but dealers just too expensive-sorry! Have the table for rings with foot pedal but not used it yet, or the electric . Will report back when I do.
  19. Sorry to hear if your loss, I have never heard if anything do ridiculous that your insurance over covers you for part of a day! Go through your policy very carefully, and regardless of what it says I think a word with financial ombudsman might be worthwhile as at the very least you have been mis sold, how any one would sell you a policy that didn't cover theft at night us unbelievable.
  20. New splitter arrived this week, just had first play. Should be just the job, billets for biomass boiler and rings for selling. It's a pto and three phase so can run in sheds without suffocating and deafening myself.
  21. Hi, if you don't find anyone sooner would happily take the logs next week, bit too busy this week. Would be onto 14ft flat trailer. Might be a first milling project!
  22. Thats good to know, and when does it need to be done by? Hopefully have get some photos of my patch at the weekend.
  23. Looks like they are passing on the exchange rate benefits, big stuff on discount but not 25%, still good of them to pass it on, a good time to buy European equipment at the moment. Might look at at HD36 myself
