  1. Two o’ those! joking apart it’s coming out so fast I wouldn’t get anywhere near it. Thinking I might rig it to little tractor spool to see if I can put less pressure through and have a look
  2. The two digger pipes go into a valve block where three lines run out to the motor. One line is smaller and runs into a banjo bolt set up on the end of the motor. It has already been set up so assumed it would just go again as I haven’t changed anything other than making up a headstock for it. Some fittings have washers, some not but all feel good and tight.
  3. Eventually you’ll either stop arguing with planners and telling them the rules are bollocks and get on with it or give up and not get permission. I tell our kids there’s no point being right if everybody else thinks your wrong.
  4. So I’ve got the flail on tonight to give it a bash and it’s absolutely hammering out fluid. Tightened all the fittings to the motor but nothing really budged. It comes out so hard I don’t want to get near it to have a look. Am I missing something obvious here? Was hoping I’d just plug the flow and return and play! It’s a second hand machine and as far as I know is in as operated condition/settings..

You will be if you can demonstrate a need to live on site, as others have said look at the village statements and local planning guidelines, fulfil the requirements in the ways that you can with your business and your sorted. It will take years probably, cause plenty of stress and cost thousands but it is possible. Arguing with planners is pissing in the wind, telling them you understand there situation and helping them justify your application to others is the way to go. Help them build a case for you by doing the legwork. The good ones are there to help the local area, keep out the developers going under the radar and the others are just lazy. If it’s a lot of work for that type to go up against you stand a greater chance.

Fair enough, my point would have to be if someone can move into a rural area and be granted planning permission on greenfield land because they have a £250,000 wage bill for there new business or there too tall for the local houses or they can’t afford to buy a big house with land and buildings or have £170,000 of machinery they’ve recently purchased or they don’t want to move kids schools then pretty much anyone could and would give it a go if they could get land for £5k/acre. Wether that’s good or bad I don’t know.
  7. We farm a lowland if marginal grass farm, use no pesticides or artificial fertiliser and don’t rely on subsidy for our income. There’s plenty others out there doing exactly the same too, many of them in your neck of the woods. I’d suggest subscribing to ‘the land’ magazine and joining the landworkers alliance to educate yourself a bit more broadly before telling people how they should farm or not and what defines a hobby or not.

  9. I’ve got a dozen cows and I’d argue there need for pasture is greater than yours. Storage for your machines could be met at an industrial site. Cows couldn’t eat the concrete. Some of the arguments here are bizarre.
  10. Tax is tax, theft is theft. Some folk might say black is white I suppose, but doesn’t mean it is.

  12. I don’t think anyone gets paid ‘not to farm’ anymore. The truth is most are too old or lazy or whatever to change what and how they farm so take the easiest route which can involve not doing anything. It’s a real disaster tying up land that’s not being used efficiently for food production or public goods.
  13. Did you buy from a dealer or direct from public? Like most, I quite fancy one, but they can get out of hand with costs it seems. Would something at 10-15k end up costing a fortune to put/keep right? Mine wouldn’t do masses. Pull dump trailer or digger, chipper or bale shredder on pto etc no more than 10 mile on road

  15. Much more reasonable and would certainly help ease the housing problem in the uk but it would take more than the council. Just putting services in would cost more than that in the uk for rural or semi rural plots. The network owners would have to have a bit of pressure put on them to get infrastructure at reasonable rates, which would increase costs for all bill payers, as we know the fat cats won’t take a cut in divies and the market needs good returns on investment.
  16. As above, I agree it’s mad. Something like avg house price 11 times avg wage. Yet people still pay it, I honestly don’t know where the cash comes from. Lots of 500k plus new build in the village yet most folk are on very avg wages. Starter homes for 200k!
  17. There was a broker on lbc early this morning saying how cheap money is at the moment, they forget the bit about needing 20-30% deposits and the low rates not always passed on to consumer. I fixed ours two years ago at 3% for 10 years, even though money maybe cheap now the shit will probably hit the fan in the next decade at least. Anyone needing to find 200k as a deposit is going to either live in a caravan for 10 years or live rent free with parents neither of which is realistic.

  19. Grab is the next thing on the cards. Got Rsl timber grab on at the moment but with rotate piped to crowd. Really not much use for anything other than brash, bagging up silage wraps or little logs. Want something that I can use for demolition etc. Just bagged up 30t of walling stone and it would’ve been easy with a proper set up
  20. Can’t believe I never thought of a template. Makes a lot of sense! I’ll have a bash with this then use the headstock for something else and make a deeper one possibly.
  21. Old Range Rover has cost me about £900 in service and repair costs last 40,000 miles, probably lost £500 in depreciation. Granted that’s me doing the work mostly. Let me down once (literally..air strut!) but was still drivable with trailer on too and even then it was repairable in 30 mins at garage. Nfu would have recovered me straight away had I not driven it straight to a garage to see if they had the strut. Last new pick up lost £15,000 in depreciation in 5 years and cost well over £5000 in service and repairs for 80,000 miles. That’s when I started buying second hand again.

  23. Yours for only £30k plus vat for base model. The money some people spend on work vehicles always amazes me. I think even if I won the lottery I’d cry handing over £30k for a Porsche or similar toy never mind something I’m going to bash, scratch and use as a vice and workbench occasionally. Is it just me being a tight arse?
