Hi,

I saw your method for drying wood for woodturning. I've not come across this candle wax method you described and wondered if it would work for drying large timber slabs do you think? About i inch at either end?

  4. If it can be milled into large slabs I would be keen

Hi Mark, you left a message to say you may have some large beech slabs available? What might you have available? Thanks Paul

  6. They won't sell it for this, they'll be expecting to discount it, but still!! Redwood commands a premium over there. I've tried importing some Redwood in the past, very few suppliers and very expensive. The Americans love a bit of poetic licence!
  7. I concur Woodguy. Insist on a blood test and TELL them you work in an industry where there is a small chance of becoming infected. That way when they send the blood sample for testing they'll tick the box to check for this. It doesn't always show apparently but its definitely worth asking for, the opposite can be horrific when this disease takes hold.
  8. Good post. Need to be careful with this. If in doubt go to the doctor and INSIST on a blood test. My mate was felling in Germany and got it. He was hospitalised for a while and also got athritis in his hands (it attacks your joints) and couldn't work for 6 months. Nasty Disease. Insist on a blood test early on can prevent a lot of the above
  9. Do you have any of this left John?
  10. Thanks for the advice everyone and particularly daltontrees for the cardboard tip! I've just put cardboard and mulch in place taking care not to mulch right up to the tree and keeping the mulch depth roughly 5-10cm. Thanks again.

    Garden Office

Great cheers Eggsarascal. I've sent them an email. Anyone else know of anything?
  12. I was considering making one of these but probably biting off more than I can chew. Lot of western red cedar probably required for the outer cladding! Be interested to know if any members know of anyone who makes these and can recommend them? Many thanks Paul

  14. Thanks for the advice 10 Bears. I can confirm it hasn't been hit by a strimmer, rabbits etc. It came under attack a year or so ago from something and then has grown around it. (Right now there are some flies and worms inside it, which I'll wash out.)
  15. Hi, I'd be keen to identify what is happening to the base of this Apple Tree and how to prevent/help it? It has sentimental value to a widow so any help much appreciated. Much appreciated Paul
  16. Nice work Big Beech, spalted beech piece looks nice
