Large Beech been dead a few years but thinking there could be some good large spalted Slab’s in it? (See photos) Anyone know someone with the right milling kit for large slabs near the Preston and Garstang area in Lancashire? Many thanks

Cheers Steve. Will do that. Thinking of working through the grits, 120,240,320 then a sanding sealer and then maybe a hard wax oil like Osmo which may not get soaked up as much

Looking to make a few desks out of some slabs I have and wondered what anyone may have used after sanding? Sanding sealer? Then Liberon finishing oil? Wax? Varnish? Cheers

I've got some second hand solid Oak flooring out of a house which I'm in the process of sanding back (first with 80 grit, then with 120 grit). It's going onto an OSB floor and not sure how to fix it. Looking for advice... -Glue it (Will the glue work on OSB?) -Floating (i.e. no glue, just straight onto the floor but then more likely to move around?) Many thanks in advance

I'm looking for advice for the best approach to getting this kitchen worktop back in to good nick? Was thinking lightly sand with say 240 grit and then some osmo oil on it but would be interested to hear what folk recommend... Thanks:thumbup1:

Definitely check the oil, check the age of it, consistency etc. But I definitely think the ambient temperature is the major issue. I do all my finishing in the house at this time of year. Annoys the crap out of my wife but I get good results! Paul

Thanks everyone for their helpful comments. I'll do a sample test and then decide of the 2 finishes wax or oil. To complete the loop I'll post back on here to show the finished work. Thanks again

From my experience Beech isn't great for outside use, unless covered in thick ship varnish or something similar. It does tend to rot quickly if in contact with the ground. You could use a better hardwood for the legs and that may help

Good suggestion. I've pulled a couple of cupboards away and found this...looks like it's varnish or similar and sadly not patina. Probably explains why its peeling in high tramped areas and not others. So best to sand it off and add Liberon Finishing oil/Fiddes wax oil? I've also checked its solid oak not engineered.

Thanks folks. Bit confused as it looks like its a varnish film peeling away but if folk think its patina then happy to go with that. In that case I'll leave the sanding and I'll give it some elbow grease with warm soapy water then Fiddes Hard wax oil. I'm a big Osmo fan but the cost might be prohibitive. The wax oil won't make it slippy will it?

Thanks folks. Some solid advice there. I've attached a bigger photo. Think I'll hire a floor sander and then apply some Liberon floor oil. Anyone recommend any other finishes?

I was thinking along those lines but got 20sq metre to do, so could take a while! What grit for the sander?

I've just moved into a new house and some work to be done. The floor looks like this (see photos), what would anyones advice be for the best way to revive it? (I'd say its oak, possibly been varnished with something)
