  1. Just a had another thought. Check how the portfolio is assessed for the ABC qualification as it isn't clear on the HCC website. It should be assessed formatively as you progress by the tutor as you need to meet 100% of the assessment criteria. i.e. If they mark it and you get 70%, they should give it back to you and tell you what areas you need to improve on to get to 100%. It would then be subject to summative assessment by ABC at the end of the course which should be a formality if the tutor has done their job right with the formative assessment. Its no good them sending you info and leaving you to get on with it and then only checking at the end. That isn't how the ABC courses work. Also check if the ABC assessment is included in the course fee or if you have to arrange it yourself. Good luck
  2. I don't think the HCC dip is accredited so unless the person interviewing you doesn't really know what they are doing, it wont get you very far. If you are going down this route then I would go with the one that is awarded by ABC as this is an accredited course and will get you onto the next level. They only do L2 but you will need minimum L4 for surveying ideally, L6 for planning and expert witness, again ideally. L2 is a good starting point though. I think Treelife do a correspondence version called Tree-mail that you can start any time, at least they used to although they don't encourage it. There is also the ISA as an entry level that you can realistically study yourself and then step up to L4 from that, it will be a bit of a jump but its doable.
  3. just based on the species I would go for Phellinus igniarius.
  4. Make sure its accredited on the RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework), it wasn't a few years ago. It wasn't even based on up to date practices. It may have changed. Treelife do a correspondence version of the L2, L4 and L6 qualifications which is probably a better bet.
  5. The branches tend to become brittle as they a ring barked by the squirrels and then fail. Maybe. Or maybe it just becomes a bit gnarled due to the damage. Just depends if the tree has enough energy to keep reinforcing itself against the damage, and how aggressive the squirrels are. I have seen sycamore like this last for years. No, pruning will reduce available energy which is needed as mentioned above. Prune to reduce risk only (when needed). You cant really prune out the damage without destroying the tree and even if you did, the squirrels would cause more damage.
  6. My business account is with Natwest and it was loads easier to sort than HSBC. Much better service. I have bank with HSBC since 1990. I think J may be onto something.
  7. That's bizarre. My mortgage is with HSBC and they assessed it against company profits plus salary. HSBC are useless though, they closed my business account last December without telling me. Took me two months to get the money out of them as well. They told me three times to go into the bank and they would transfer the money to my personal account (which I knew they couldn't), when I got in they wouldn't do it. The last time in went in the bank manager phoned the call centre and gave them a bit of a roasting.
  8. I did the same, put it off too long and ended up paying too much. I save a lot on tax by being Ltd.
  9. The mortgage company will look at your salary plus the company profits to determine your max income.
  10. No, a Ltd company is a separate legal entity so it gets sued, not you. in your example you would be driving the car, not the company.
  11. I can do you a Picus report with QTRA risk assessment. Email is [email protected] Will give you a call later. Cheers
  12. I know it’s pretty unsightly. It’s just something I used to do. I saw someone once rig a top E when it broke at the bridge by tying something at the end and re-stringing it. You would think it would just snap when you try to straighten out the bit that was previously wound on the machine heads but it didn't. Just thought it looked useful as I never had spare strings lying around when I was a student. Don’t do it now but don’t use the SG much. I’m about to get it set up for my 6 year old as he only has an acoustic so he can play with it until Xmas. Cheers, nice Ibanez too, cool paint job. I have my eye on a Gretsch semi acoustic with a bigsby tremolo next up or maybe a Gibson semi. Wouldn’t mind a 12 string acoustic also at some point. I have a soprano ukulele as well that I wouldn’t mind upgrading, i’ll Post a pick when I get a min.
  13. What is the qualification level? It seems to range from L3 to L6! They might get an L3 with very little experience for that.
  14. These are mine: Epiphone SG which I have had since the mid 90's, bit batter and dusty now, its been retired. Fender Stat, never really wanted one until I saw it. Was looking for a Gibson semi
  15. I'll ping you a PM mate with the quote. Cheers
  16. Hi Mate I can give you a price if no one else can who is closer and Steve is probably a similar distance to me. Do you know what the diameter of the tree is and is it free of obstructions, walls, ivy, shrubs, etc? Cheers
  17. Be careful with this approach, if you fell a protected tree on the basis that the owner has told you and signed a contract to say there is no TPO, you would still have committed a criminal offence. Always check with the TO mate, you wouldn't believe how many times I have been told there is no TPO when there is one in place. Cheers
  18. £2,349.
  19. An issue with the rooting zone would be the first thing to check. Drought, compaction, recent building, etc.
  20. That's isn't a bad price mate considering the travel and accommodation you would need. I worked it out slightly less but I am lot closer and not VAT reg!!! Its still and 8 hour drive each way so not exactly competitive. I thought about flying but can you imagine taking a Picus through the scanner at the airport in its black case!
  21. I did a Picus last week where there was a huge rose bush around base to a height of 1.5m, they didn't want me to cut it down at first! Not sure how they thought I was going to put the sensors on the tree. You don't fancy Aberdeen the Steve? :-)
  22. Copper beech are usually grafted as Paul said.
  23. Could also be sulphur tuft, check under the cap to see if it has a ring on the stipe.
  24. Me too
