  1. Except a 15 tonne load of arb arisings in a roro bin will only cost £100 from us. Indeed I have an 8 wheeler load of processor sized oak, birch sycamore and robinia in tree lengths that have just come off a highways job which I will take offers for, trouble is we are 150 miles south of Blaggy.
  2. Homegrown

    Veg oil

Yes I've seen it bake on the fins and it does gum up so I would always store a saw after some mineral oil has run through, on a similar note the big problem I have come across this week is mice having eaten throuh a starter case, ignition lead and oil filler cap on a spare old 266xp!
  3. It was not allowed to be offered for sale after September 2014, existing holdings may be used till Sept 15. In any case hoopers should only be used May to June, if it's to control bark stripping, as it's the excess males that chiefly do the stripping.
  4. We possibly need to talk!
  5. Yes we had that problem last year. Belt life seems to be variable and highly dependant on operator. Apart from worn sprockets ripping the teeth we have had failures from small stones trapped between belt and sprocket punching through the belt (a poor maintenance issue IMO) but recently a shock load has torn the belt cleanly in two. Although the belt has the correct markings I see no sign of carbon fibre in the break. I'm going to be in the market for a smaller tracked machine (gross weight with trailer less than 3.5 tonne) and probably direct drive like the predator 50RX
  6. I had considered running 3 20mm width ones but even that would be over 600 quid, they are availbale for £350 in the States but £800 here retail.

  8. No problem getting one off the shelf, problem is prices have increased significantly.
  9. Does anyone have an online resource for Gates polychain (for Carlton stump grinder) that's cheaper than normal dealers?
  10. Don't be tempted to load above the headboard but ensure a good load for the machine and conditions.
  11. Apparently so, James worked for the Boss, well before my time. Anyone wishing to follow in his footsteps should look at the job offer I have just posted in the employment forum

  13. Correction I meant C1+E for the Iveco, the LR 5th wheel would be B+E. I spoke to the firm Bob linked this morning and the conversion adds £10k to the £28k of the 130 crewcab plus the cost of the trailer which can gross 4.5 tonnes so one could just about equal the payload of a 7.5 tonne lorry if pockets are deep enough.
  14. How do you get round the LR restriction for towing more than 4 tonnes? I've seen these mini artics based on an iveco 7.5 tonne whci can gross 8.25 tonnes on a B+E licence and I've also seen them on landrovers (pulling the strating gates for race horses) but assumed you were limited to the 6 tonne gross of the landrover and the 4 tonne towing limit. I'd be interested as we have a heavy stump grinder to move around. Also does this combo obviate the need for an operator's licence? As the LR is dual purpose if less than 2 tonne unladen or does one have to consider the trailer as part of the vehicle as it is semi imposed?
  15. Probaly not but the Land Rover will only be rated for 4 tonne with trailer brakes working off the service brake.
  16. We have an old battered one of these that is redundant should anyone be interested, needs some work but it starts and runs ok.
  17. If you want to pick out some from our heap near Gatwick for a small charity donation PM me.
  18. I wondered about making a simple one, a chap advertises a tachometer which can trip a relay at set revs (cannot find his site now), this combined with a solenoid dump valve in the feed to the spool would stop the feed, getting the rollers to reverse a 1/4 turn would be the problem but better than nothing. Having said that I worked ten years with a dosko 6" without one and managed. The nice thing about the Forst is that you can stick something in and walk away for the next brach with confidence that it will be all gone by the time you get back but I expect the same is true of most modern chippers.
  19. If you are still looking I have some 222 manuals and parts books which I could scan.
  20. That's my take on it but I wasn't aware of the dual purpose exemption for *any* trailer for operator's licence. Costs over 1200 quid to fit tacho to Landrover.
  21. Don't know stoggling but I thought halo was the BTCV term for a heavy crown thinning, i.e. remove all competing stems to give a free crown of an oak tree, typically used where coppice with standards has reverted to a full canopy.
  22. There you go a complete business starter kit complete with apprentice demonstrating how to fall headlong into chipper hopper!
  23. Shame I'm not still working in Stafford or I would have driven it up. I'll hitch it up to one of our redundant Kwikchips (one spoken for so far) and take some pictures of it working as an outfit.
