  1. I've changed a few of these gearbox's, they are tricky. It involves drilling out pop rivets that hold a bearing in place. I've also successfully repaired them by opening up the gearbox and replacing the spacer which the clutch mechanism presses against for a slightly longer one thus taking up the slack. I have seen them where the spacer which is made of plastic has melted due to the friction of the parts rubbing together. In my opinion they are poorly designed, nothing like older Honda's.
  2. I know they have no CS2153's cuz I bought the last one for a customer! it was on offer cuz it was an old model. They still have some jonsered versions of the 560XP though:thumbup1:
  3. Correct, Jonsered has been withdrawn from the uk. Central spares distributed them and then Henton and Chattell had a go. It would appear there just isn't enough sales in the uk to make it viable.
  4. Its proper old stihl engineering, don't think you'll ever wear it out! Trouble is bits are starting to go obsolete now
  5. From an engineering point of view I've always found efco good. The only problem is the lack spares backup and parts drawings.
  6. Confusing! It looks to me as if Stihl products ordered on the web can only be bought through the 'Stihl online partner store' which dealers can sell through. That way Stihl can police how a product is sold ie. a spare part can be posted but a chainsaw must be handed over. Well all will become clear in time
  7. Just found this! Sounds like a complete U turn to me:001_huh: Stihl GB has announced a new e-commerce solution that will enable its Approved Dealers to serve customers via a high quality online platform. From April 2014, Approved Dealers can add online sales to their STIHL and VIKING offer. Many products will be available to order online for delivery to the customer’s place of work or home, while those which STIHL deems to require a detailed or personal handover such as chain saws and metal tool brush cutters will be available to ‘click and collect’. Announcing the development, Robin Lennie, Managing Director of STIHL GB said: “The new STIHL e-commerce concept will ensure all our customers – both valued Approved Dealers and end users, can enjoy the benefits of online sales, whilst critically retaining the high service standards expected of our brands.” STIHL continues to rely exclusively on the servicing dealer, but this latest change reflects the latest legal requirements within the EU as well as growing significance of the Internet for the power tool segment. The expanded online business will supplement the dealer’s local presence enabling customers to buy STIHL and VIKING at a time and place to best suit their needs. Ensuring that the high service standards of the STIHL Group are retained, Approved Dealers can sign-up for an official STIHL Online Partner Store – a customised online store with technical and marketing support provided by STIHL, or will be able to retail products online through their own websites using an approved ‘shop-in-shop’ formula. STIHL will work closely with its Approved STIHL and VIKING Dealer network to ensure that every dealership has the tools and support needed to take advantage of the opportunities this programme presents, providing guidelines for shop-in-shop concepts and access to specialist online marketing support. The STIHL GB team says it will work closely with its Approved Dealers over forthcoming months to ensure a positive and professional experience is maintained for every customer.
  8. I spoke to a guy in technical at Husqvarna who said autotune can also be calibrated by letting the saw tick over for 5 mins. Seems easier than trying to find enough big wood to thrash it!
  9. The legality of Stihl's online policy was always in dispute, something to do with restrictive trade!
  10. Another thing that occurred to me is how come these saws don't appear to have to meet the emissions legislation that Husky, Stihl etc keep banging on about????
  11. Just had a chap phone up for advice about a Landmaster chainsaw he'd bought on the internet. He'd used it twice and now it won't start. I told him it was probably a low quality chinese machine and to contact who he'd bought it from. I thought I'd have a look on the web and found this Petrol 58cc 3.4hp Chainsaw, Two Quality Chains, 20? Bar & Carry Case, 2014 Model | eBay It doesn't inspire confidence when the saw in the pictures has got the chain on BACKWARDS!!
  12. We have a solo rex hung up outside the workshop, I'll see what chains on that.
  13. Has the coil come loose and sticking to the magnets. Dead easy to whip the top off and have a look.
  14. Is there something wrong with the brake mechanism? I take you have the opc pulled in!
  15. Saw bench is definitely the way to go. Will save me some work!!
  16. A friend wants me to build him one of these It looks to be one of the most lethal contraptions i've seen, what do you think?
  17. I bought this camper in the ninety's. It was a wreck! Spent 3 years restoring it and have now done around 90k miles in it. I've only had to be recovered twice. Once with a seized wheel bearing and once with a gear selector problem. About every 3 years I have to invest a lot of time in it and it makes you wonder if its all worth it but I just love the freedom of going where you please when you want.
  18. Forget the hylomar, replace the rubbers, they harden with age. The parts list shows two rubbers 537 10 11-02 and 537 41 32-01. On an older machine it shows a one piece rubber which is 503 85 47-01.
  19. Or press the decompressor if it has one.
  20. "It's a 50/50 opinion split mate. Half of us know they're crap, the other half are living in denial!" Absolutely spot on! I loathe them! They are far to complicated, to much to go wrong. Try another manufacturer.
  21. A gardener I know called himself "Border Control" Another good one is "Just a Mow":001_smile:
  22. Araldite rapid will do the job, but of course it won't be permanent.
  23. The futures bright! The futures orange!
  24. I got mine from central spares part no. 50073. Its only 500ml though.
