  1. I was having a chat to a guy who works for husky about how well the T540XP had been received on arbtalk. He said the only real negative he'd seen was your problem with the strop eyelet. Apparently they experimented with different breaking strains on the clip and some of the weaker ones somehow found there way into production. Sounds like you got one. He said if you take it back to your dealer husky are happy to cover it and any damage it may have caused to the saw.

Just check a couple of simple things first, check the impulse hose is connected under the rear of the handle on the starter side and the rubber inlet manifold is ok, the tend to tear if the rear av fails. You never know!

It could be so many things! Air leaks normally make 2 strokes unstable, impossible to keep in tune. Are you sure it is a high tickover and not weak clutch springs causing the clutch to drag?
  4. I think you'll find only the two bearings on the input gear can be changed, the ones on the gear that drive the big gear in the bottom are an assembly. A gear kit was £150+ last time i looked! much more sensible to buy a new head if thats the case.
  5. If only it had cost just £200 to repair! I think you should come clean and tell everyone how much it really cost!
  6. I thought the 257 was the non xp version of the 254xp (basicly the same but not so high performance). I also recall there was one type with a plastic clutch cover and one with a magnesium cover, so if you get a replacement make sure its the right one.
  7. You'd of thought any old style caps would supercede to flippy caps if they fitted, doesn't make sense to make two caps that fit the same saw!
  8. Made this as a bit of a project. The ram was of some mining equipment that a local hydraulic specialist had uprated! Learnt a lot about hydraulics in the process.
  9. He means the clutch drum! that sometimes has a notch which the oil pump driver locates in.
