  1. Agreed! A few beers goes a very long way! I've gone out of my way to tip at certain sites because of the promise of a few pennies or a pint
  2. 160 yr old yew? Few bits for turners maybe?
  3. What always amazes me is the volume of waste people chuck over their back fence/boundary, I've done numerous jobs over the years in woodlands and it's disgusting how people treat the area they live!
  4. Yep a stolen pic the break is right across the base at the 45 degree bit the actual metal is very light and where the break is it resembles breeze block, so not entirely sure how well it would weld?
  5. Don't know on diameter as I haven't got it to hand
  6. Nope your right it's the coupling between the pump and the bottom of the ram and has two ports running through is, it's a bit of a silly design really because the motor hangs underneath the ram held on by this bracket/casting
  7. Na that's a stolen photo from Google, It's sheared of across the base and I've tried a few things but nothing will hold it, it's a very poor casting
  8. The way I've always dealt with rats under sheds/ awkward places is with a 2" section of pvc water pipe seal an end up, ram it full with cordite then wedge a Christmas tree bulb with the glass carefully smashed off into the powder and seal that in with silicon or more pipe etc and conect it to a spool of speaker wire, then cover the pipe with a bit of masking tape and then roll it in rancid cat food or peanut butter and leave it near the run hole, pop for a pint then usually it's been dragged of down the hole, a quick tap of a 9v battery and the percussion will kill pretty much anything
  9. Is anyone on here a LOLER inspector?
  10. Ah bugger :-/ ok cheers for trying anyway fella
  11. It's a Titan pro something? Seems to be a generic part that's used on most electric splitters from what I can see but it's made from compressed pasta judging by how long it lasted lol that'll be amazing if he still has it!
  12. Does anybody have this part going spare from an old splitter I could buy before I buy a new one? It's the pump casting for an electric log splitter
  13. Depends on the shrub in question? Could be old, could be a little early or could be a crap example??
  14. Looks like a forsythia attempting to be a tree to me?
  15. I haven't had a look yet but it's only a young wood by the sounds of it so not entirely sure what potential it has but definitely worth a visit
  16. The bit that worries me is if you hired this woodland and worked it to the point it's then profitable what's to stop the landlord evicting you?
  17. So a friend approached me and asked if I would be interested or know of anyone interested in renting an 80 acre woodland? And would then be responsible for the management and work involved with said woodland?? Is that normally how this works..... As I've always been payed to do woodland work.
  18. Got an 070 that I might be persuaded to part with..... Not broken or anything but a "friend" borrowed her for a while to ring up some oak lumps and intended to tidy her up in return but she came back loosely assembled for some reason and anything but tidy! and I've never got round to firing her up since, various parts are brand new, side cover clutch etc
  19. Pretty much it in a nutshell combined with endless screaming of course
  20. The scary thing is I worked with an ex military lad and all the training was blown away in the wind when panic set in, it was like trying to wrap a ham hock that's vomiting claret quicker than you can imagine, it's not a pretty site and the stuff gets everywhere and it's sticky. But Practice, training and preparation is the best that we can do I'd also like to add it's all well and good rehearsing in a class room but the occasional panic test on site works well, my brother and I arranged a "situation" on site many years ago and It's amazing how people react in stressful situations, the FA kit NEEDS to be somewhere accessible not Buried under kit! This is all common sense but we all know how rare that is.....
  21. I carry a cat and celox gauze in my pocket, I hope that in time the basic CS30/31/38 etc will cover this aspect of FA because it's very relevant, I've always found the generic first aid courses we get thrown on to be very basic and not actually that helpful. I've been in the unfortunate position where I've had to deal numerous minor amputations/bleeds and a very severe femoral bleed after an RTA and I won't go anywhere without a decent FA kit, we're in the industry where s#%t happens all to frequently and we can't afford to take chances where lives are at stake

    Tree I'd

I am never gonna be able to look at this tree in the same way ever again!

    Tree I'd

Rubbish photo I know but it's in a private garden, I've driven past this for about 10 years and finally I've surrendered! What is it?
  24. Yeah it's definitely a burr but what causes it?
  25. Perched 60ft up in the crown of a mature ash is this not so little gem! It's at least 4ft in diameter and is almost perfectly spherical
