  1. Would like to hear from those who have been in this industry for years. How they dealt with the stress, with the fear of failure and the debt....
  2. Hitch climber's great especially with a foot ascender. I've toyed with getting a zig zag but the stories of failures and pictures of broken links puts me off....
  3. Mostly oak, could be milled. Some cedar. Hengrave hall bury st edmunds. Owner wants removed from land.
  4. Who splices ropes? Fr jones? Honey bros?
  5. It goes with the hitch climber so no termination not..
  6. It's the top end of a 50m rope, should perhaps send it off to be cut then spliced? Tbh i've seen ropes in far worse a state. When i feel it, it feels firm enough in that area...
  7. Upon inspecting my rope it looks as though I may have spiked it... Any experienced guys on here tell if I should or shouldn't be using it?!
  8. Tow bar was leaving it's mark on the way out of the field😁
  9. I'm lining up an arborist 130. Had one on demo and was impressed. A few features that make it better than the 125 for me ie engine cover, disc blades etc. i'm only a small start up so wouldn't need anything bigger really.. A 6" would be good but second hand is such an unknown quantity....
  10. Thought about going for one of these to replace my hitch climber, perhaps shouldn't bother....
  11. water through out the day, protein shake within 20mins of finishing the day....
  12. About 7, demo'd an arborist 130 and liked it alot
  13. Thanks i'm looking for a decent machine to upgrade on my 18/100g though am not too sure what to go for... Was going to open up a thread on what would be best to get. I've been out on my own for only 7 months so can't get it wrong...
  14. hhhmm that's the one...he sent me a load of pictures. Services, greased all working apparently...
  15. He's taken it down cos i said i'd have it... He's adament it goes through ebay via private listing...
  16. Really tidy 150dhb on offer from an ebayer, low price for a machine with 450 hours on it. Serial number on it. What do we think?
  17. So........ I went to the yard yesterday to take a look at the bar... We passed it round everyone had a little stare down the rails and it was pretty clear it was as straight as the day it came from fr jones. The chain however needed a good sort out as left cutters were far shorter than the right. I totally agree with the whole borrowing gear thing lesson learned! He was good enough to let me use it however this firm owes me money after I bought my loader over to move an enourmas yew that had fallen in the road and no one could get a saw through it thus getting him out of a hole... Really appreciate the comments though, god bless arb talk lol
  18. Almost every large bar i've come across has a slight curve to it... Surely it's down to the chain being kept right?!
  19. The chain was in such a bad way it was a bit of a salvage job, the chains on large bars have to be well maintained in order for it to cut straight, though i used to work for him and i know how no one looks after anything there.. Yes quite agree with the second point, however when just starting out...
  20. I borrowed a mates 661 with a great big bar (sugihara) I used it to just get a large willow over, the chain had been well grounded before I got it, i sharpened it used it returned it full of oil and fuel... I get a phone call saying 'you've bent this bar it wont cut properly bla bla' So he wants me to buy a new one.. Never at any point had i trapped or abused this saw. How would you handle this situation???
  21. I just got the new husqvarna telescopic polesaw and it's superb
  22. After all labour and comsumables i'm making about 750 a week...is that cheap. I haven't spoken to many other tree surgeons so don't know. I've got more wood than i know what to do with.... I think finance is well affordable but it's just what if i have a quiet period
  23. For those of you who have made the jump to a bigger machine, was it leap of faith to do it? I've been out on my own since last october and i've been 6 days a week mostly since... But the thought of taking on finance for a bigger machine over 4 years concerns me though having said that i'm very nearly at the point where I have no choice
  24. I'm starting to outgrow my 18/100G! Had the 130 arborist on demo and what a difference that machine would make to my work....
