  1. Bashlins steel with Velcro straps - heavy but comfy and most importantly, stable when climbing!
  2. Yes why non-smoking in an outdoors job? Understand if no smoking in the truck etc., but this seems unreasonable. What else is not allowed?
  3. I went for the Peltor class 5 on my Petzl Vertex climbing helmet - we're fine for a while but then found they are so bulky that the right hand one pops off when I tilt my head to that dude e.g. when cutting a branch! Kind of defeats the point doesn't it? Agree with using in-ear plugs as well eg when using chipper but then it's a PITA to put them in & out, you lose them, they get dirty etc...
  4. I was very impressed with the CS100 when demo'ed for me at APF this year, I am seriously considering buying one. Re original post, 'day to day jobs' not sure what this means exactly ... one crew's day to day job may be another crews once a month job - no disrespect, some outfits are better equipped than others. One thing no-one has mentioned yet on this topic is how much easier it is to securely store a small machine like the CS100 than a big towable road chipper, & how much this makes your life easier and you expenses incl. insurance lower if you are a small outfit like mine. I have had no end of problems trying to hire 6" towable chippers for big jobs short term hire - anyone on here who knows a good supplier, or is providing hire of man + chipper for a job in Nottingham city in next two weeks at a reasonable rate, use of your own truck for chip disposal not required as I've got my own, just need you to get chipper to and from site, please PM me. So I guess in summary my personal experience is that I can get by with small chippers for the majority of jobs I do, but for those occasional big jobs, some more 'muscle' is required. On the other hand, buying & running a small chipper will cost a lot less than a bigger one, is it worth it going for a bigger one even second hand, especially second hand - a brand new 4" chipper vs a used 6" with no warranty, no comeback etc. it's like buying a second hand car...
  5. Video not working mate! Copyright restricted I think...
  6. Good work mate that's a very good use if a restricted space. Built something similar myself I'll put up some pics later. What did you make your roof out of?
  7. Leatherman c33 great little knife one handed opening comes with straight or serrated blade take your pick fiberglass handle karabiner clip/bottle opener included well under £50 if you look online for it :-)
  8. Thanks Hodge I will call him tomorrow, good to have a name too :-)
  9. Posted this as new thread please reply on new thread rather than on here, ta :-)
  10. Ok rant over :-) I would really appreciate any help from arbtalkers re getting this vehicle insured at a price that won't bankrupt me with a company who aren't criminals dressed in suits. Have tried Lycetts and waiting on reply from them; going to try NFU mutual on Monday. Any replies greatly appreciated.
  11. Just bought a Ford Transit tipper with a tail lift, not got any years No claims bonus on commercial vehicles, need to get it insured... Went on moneysupermarket, comparethemarket and go compare and got cheapest quote of £1200-ish off comparethemarket I think. So when I phoned them up to buy the policy I was told "ooooh we don't cover for tipper/tail lift (some won't cover the tipper, some the tail lift), let me talk to my manager and get back to you"... Quote then shot up to £2,000 per annum. :-( Also the spiv sorry customer service representative from one company "groves and dean" told me that he works in the SAME OFFICE as the next quote that came up on the comparethemarket "van insurance" so "don't bother talking to them as they are really the same company". Also if you look at the small print these comparison websites actually have a stake in many of the insurers that come up as guess what the cheapest quotes on their website. Then when you go to buy the insurance they start raising issues about stuff you already informed then about on the website system eg truck being a tipper. Of course if you ever try to claim for something he'll will freeze over before they pay out. Am Absolutely disgusted I hate the insurance industry! worse than bankers!

  14. I have a 560XP & had same hot starting problems, finally got it exchanged for a new one under warranty an starts fine now. Here's a tip you may know already & apologies in advance if so but no harm repeating: On a hot start: 1. Pull choke up into choke position then let it off choke again straight away. 2. Then Start as normal hot start i.e. chain brake on, decompression in, pull cord to start, blip throttle to normal.when started.
  15. Thanks all for replies and in particular Joel, there must be a hundred and one uses for a tail lift I think they're great, but I hadn't thought of that security use for a tail lift! So based on your replies, it now looks like this particular 2 wheel back axle truck is now not an option. I've not found any others within that budget that have the 4wheel back axle ... anyone know what kind of price you'd be looking at to after fit a tail lift to a standard tipper as there are loads if them out there with 4 wheel back axle but no tail lift... Any replies again much appreciated
  16. Hi all, Looking at transit type tippers with a tail lift & tow bar for around £5K mark and saw a nice looking one for ok price but rear axle is 2-wheeler rather than 4-wheeler. Is this a deal breaker for the truck, does it affect load you can carry / wear on tyres, wheels & axles? Any help much appreciated.
  17. Nice video & nice technique :-) Is the saw a Husky T540XP ?
  18. I have a pair of Lavoro Sherwood's, they were fine until the outer sole of the heel in both boots got holes in them - the outer sole rubber is incredibly thin! Brought them to Timpsons who said they're not possible to fix due to their construction - & recommended to buy boots with Vibram soles next time ... Going to take them back to my dealer see what they will do for me - if nothing then Ill wear them til completely gone then make sure next pair I buy have got Vibram soles. So not very happy as I've had them for only just over a year & not worn every day either!
