  1. what difference would this make to my husky 555? is it like gearing it up a notch on a .325 pitch? please excuse the newby like question Ian
  2. is this similar to releasing one side more than the other and getting it to swing to your preferred direction of fell? its fun watching them dance
  3. i had seen some where that you could get chains with a couple less teeth than std chains so it was quicker for forestry hand cutters to sharpen in the field, id be interested in trying one to see if there is any difference, but i can't find a place to get one, any one on here have any ideas or leads? Ian
  4. I have the husky 555 and can't fault it, plenty of grunt, easy to maintain and clean, only gripe is that when the weather is hot and been using the saw all day and it's red hot, if you let it run out of fuel while using it, it can be a bugger to start, case off, air filter off, foot in trigger so it's on full throttle and then start to pull her over, then she'll go! apart from that it's a good saw and will take some stick. Ian
  5. During summer splitting logs for firewood I had a big problem with wasps, they seemed to be attracted to the sap, they especially love willow! Now it's got colder I don't have the wasp problem while splitting, only that they seem to be hibernating in the log pile and we are bringing them into the house hitching a ride in with the baskets of logs, just had to squish the second one this weekend. Any one have the same problem??
  6. well worth the investment if your splitting by hand :thumb up: Ian
  7. I've got the x27 and can highly rate it for splitting rounds, even elm which is a right bar/steward but with determination it splits.... the extra long handle means you just don't have to swing as hard, the rounds do just jump apart, awesome bit of kit!! I want the axe next, will post a pic of the massive rounds of willow I been splitting tomorrow. Ian

    Growing trees

ash seed need a cold stratification period of about 13 weeks, seeds should be kept damp but not wet and around 3 deg C. after the 13 weeks pot seeds up and wait for seedlings to appear. I use damp vermiculite and a freezer bag to out seeds on the fridge with and you can see if any germinate in the bag. Ian

i got a 96 fieldman, engines are bullet proof, rot is a problem but nothing can be sorted if you know a good welder, watch for steering play as arms and bushes could be gone, early gear boxes have a nut problem that comes loose and stops second gear and reverse, a good example will run for ever if looked after properly, very capable trucks atkinson automotives at stoke are the boys to look after them ian

  25. Hi, Has any one else experienced problems starting their saws or other 2 stroke motors with this recent heat? I left my saw in the car one day, it got hot and it wouldn't start, once i got her to running she was very spluttery, smokey and kicked oil out the exhaust. Has any one else experienced this and could it have caused any problems? My saw runs fine now but did notice oil round the decompression button on the top. Any ideas? Ian
