  1. I haven't done any milling yet but planning on cutting oak beams and braces from a bunch of oak trees lying on the ground and cobbling together a seasonal workers dwelling.... need to order a few more things before I start milling. cheers, steve
  2. I've read mixed reviews about the Esse Ironheart. Something to do with cleaning it out and also the quality of the metal. cheers, steve
  3. It really is a Chilaskan, honest guv.... made in China version of the Alaskan mill. I bought some Sordin MSA chipper ear defenders too! cheers, steve
  4. Recently ordered a Chilaskan chainsaw mill from Rob and I've just completed putting it together. Quality looks much better than I expected - although I did need to re-drill out a few of the holes as they had a bit of casting in them so the bolts didn't push through.... but not a big deal, a simple fix. Also had to elongate the holes in the plastic cover as they didn't line up very well.... but again, a simple fix. This is a 48" version Chilaskan and it'll be used with a Stihl 880 on a 42" Sugi bar. Hopefully it'll last long enough to mill some lumps of oak on our farm..... cheers, Steve
  5. Dead right there mate, with.... "money goes to money". cheers, steve

Ah thanks will keep that in mind. I've been trying to stomp most of it down as flat as possible. cheers, steve

    New season

Very nice looking indeed. I've been 'kind of laying' the edge of a belt of trees, which is a gappy mix of tall splindly ash trees, dog rose, hawthorn and other bits and bobs. Not sure if I'm doing the right thing but I figured if I lay them flat to the ground it might fill out in a few years time.... is that a bad way to do hedges? Figured I could plant any gaps in the future with saplings. cheers, steve
  9. It's a Hornbeam bark over a Turkey Oak core, gas mark 7 for 30 minutes and serve warm. Drizzle with olive oil. cheers, steve
  10. Been chopping a few Lawson Cypress lately. Is it only Lawsons that has that strange perfume/ sweet shop smell after cutting it? cheers, steve
  11. ....and all Arbtalk members have overwhelmingly voted that you must sing (in between swear words of course) "Holly, Holly, Holly, oi, oi, oi" for the whole duration. Cheers, Steve
  12. Can we have a photo of every single swear word please. Thankyou. Cheers, steve
  13. Received the handle today thanks Rob. When you bolt a new Alaskan or Chilaskan mill together do you use threadlock fluid on the threads to help stop them rattling undone? cheers, steve
  14. Nope, you got me on this one!.... I suggest stand back if it asks for one more wafer thin mint, buckets at the ready. cheers, steve
  15. Rumour has it that Mr Slacky Gurdle wrestled the beast with his bare hands, dragged it two thousand metres and then a woman with a dog told him he was a very naughty boy and sent him home. Twas just another night out in Wetherspoons, for Slack. cheers, steve
  16. What are you painting onto the boards and is that to reduce the risk of it splitting as it seasons? Any advice on stickers would be appreciated too. Is there an optimal size and spacing? cheers, steve
  17. err, maybe because he enjoys his work... and I don't see anything bad about that. cheers, steve
  18. Worst thing about this is that you missed out on vol au vents with soggy pastrie, a disco playing 80's remixes and spinning lights around an empty dance floor (apart from a couple of kids doing knee sliders across the parquet flooring). And you avoided wearing a suit that never did and still doesn't fit you anymore.... and pulsing veins in your feet because they've grown two sizes bigger since the last time you wore them. cheers, steve
  19. Lovely thanks yeah and I'll try not to shart. cheers, Steve
  20. Haha! cheers, steve
  21. Mark, whilst you are here (and sorry to temporarily hijack the thread)..... I'm looking to get the Husky helmet here Husqvarna Technical Forest Helmet but need chipper ear defenders fitted (MSA would do) instead of the standard 26db ones. Can you supply those on it instead? cheers, steve
  22. Are you dunk? cheers, steve
  23. Hey! I have the same jumper!! This is excellent. Okay thanks, will measure up tomorrow and I'll keep the smaller scale size in mind.... cheers, Steve
  24. I'll buy one from you Mark. Just need to get the right size. I've read that the arms are long enough to cope with *one handed chainsaw use at full stretch, so I just need to get the chest size right. Any tips on measuring the chest? Inhale? Exhale? Just wearing a t-shirt or Noel Edmonds jumper?.... *just waiting for someone to pick up on that particular technique cheers, steve
  25. I blame it on a school rugby shirt being a bit (a lot) too coarse, never been the same since. cheers, steve
