  1. The head came with a small metal bar to help with undoing it.... hasnt yours got that? cheers, steve
  2. The Portek Power Strim Pro head arrived yesterday.... first impressions are that it's very simple and has a good weight to it. They make a plastic head version too but this 'pro' aluminium version looks like it'll stand up to more abuse. I've not used it yet though.... cheers, Steve
  3. There is nowt to compare the strength of a well-worked groundies neck muscle. cheers, steve
  4. Haha! I've missed your carvings on here Ian. Good to see a new one. Made me smile (as usual). That wizard reminds me of my late grans jelly mould. cheers, steve

    Treestuff

Their website is working fine - TreeStuff.com Professional Arborist Supplies and Tree Climbing Gear Maybe you have computer problems? cheers, steve
  6. I completely get all that. The thing that really baffles me is how hacking such a gurt hole into a healthy tree can be described as being unharmful. cheers, steve
  7. "It's important to note the tree won't be harmed..." errr, really?!....hmmm, I'd have thought that cutting a gurt wedge cavity out of a living tree would do a fair amount of harm to the tree. Am I missing something here? cheers, steve
  8. Thanks David. Great photos I guess if we had more ancient forests then there would be lots more natural homes (not carved by humans) for bees. Unfortunately, I think the biggest trouble for UK bees comes via ever smaller sources for pesticide free forage (throughout the whole year) and virus' issues via our globalised importations + climate change. Not much of that looks set to change. cheers, steve
  9. I've seen a number of log hives in various shapes and forms but this is the first time I've seen somebody carving one into what looks like a perfectly healthy tree (a 150 year old sweet chestnut). Can't see myself doing this in our woods but is quite fascinating. What are your thoughts on the health of the tree following such radical surgery?.... keeping in mind that bees would probably propolise the entire cavity. cheers, steve
  10. I quite liked the Tank World advert. Tank World, or someting like that. Anyone played it? cheers, Steve
  11. Bootiful! Love days like this. cheers, steve
  12. Fitted the Oregon two blade mulching head to the Florabest today and it worked super dooper. I'd normally scythe brambles but you cant compare with the mulching abilities of a brushcutter. So heres a big thumbs up to the Oregon two blade mulching head, awesome. Cheers, Steve p.s.... I'm awaiting delivery of a Portek fixed line head too (the pro aluminium version). Looking forwards to trying that out on grass paths.
  13. Nice one chaps - think I'll save up for one of those then. Instead of cattle prods employers should consider supplying double shots of fresh coffee. cheers, steve
  14. Thanks folks. This new one from Husky looks pretty darn good.... anyone got one? Husqvarna Helmets Forest helmet, Technical cheers, steve
  15. I think he was taking the fish with 40mm. Either that or missed a decimal point.... 4.0mm cheers, steve
  16. Cor, they look good and mighty expensive. A 40mm drill bit shouldn't break the bank... cheers, steve
  17. That's very true. Good analogy. cheers, steve
  18. I thought about doing that but then I'd get drips on my head when it chucks it down with rain. Cheers, steve
  19. Would you need to drive over the rush area in winter? I've found wheeled vehicles leave ruts on wet sponged ground so only drive across when absolutely nescesary with a mini-digger. cheers, steve
  20. Hello y'all Now the warmer and dare I say consistently hotter weather is with us I'm thinking it would be nice to have a summer helmet to stop my head boiling like an egg inside my non-vented Husqvarna groundie helmet. I don't climb so don't need chin straps. Any suggestions? cheers, steve
  21. Its a shame the torch isnt bigger and brighter. I'd also like a laser spirit level incorporated.... and a coffee machine. Not much to ask for is it?! cheers, steve
  22. Nice one. Just the job mate. I did consider making a chainsaw pivot thing myself but I can't weld and that would be project in itself! cheers, Steve
  23. Ref: Aldi Workzone phone The battery life is stunning.... I bought mine on 15th April (six weeks ago) and have recharged it 3 times (and it still has loads of battery life in it before the next recharge)! The ring tones are a cross between a Bolywood CD playing in your favourite curry house and supermarket music on a slow day.... absolutely dire! The alarm tone I use reminds me of the Adams Family. The navigation in sunlight takes a bit of guesswork because it's impossible to see which category is being selected. I hate inserting a number 1 into a text message! Bluetooth doesn't connect to my iPad, which is very annoying. Definitely seems rugged and waterproof / so far. Overall.... it's a fairly cheap and crap phone with AWESOME! battery life. cheers, steve
  24. Great cheers, steve
  25. The Oregon mulching head arrived. Am I supposed to sharpen it before fitting it? (doesn't seem very sharp). And which way up should it be fitted? cheers, Steve
