  1. Hi fella's, If trees are my first passion, life as a grazier/contractor is my second. We have a bit of gear hanging round. Dad said "where there's wheels there's worry" he was right and if there's tracks the trouble costs twice as much. Cheers, Tony
  2. Sorry Gerbutt I missed your post mate. Just a normal coil spring with an inside OD of roughly 11mm (to accomadate 2 x 6mm accessory cords). I purchased a long length and cut and file to suit. I'll get the specs and post with a slide show of how shortly. Cheers, Tony
  3. Good stuff man. Be real interested in your design and thoughts. When I get a min I'll post the slide show of my fabrication. Cheers, Tony
  4. Three good hitches I like, Super Cooper, Knut, & Michoacan. (The VT is just outside the top 3) Cheers, Tony
  5. Good stuff Adam, inspiration to get back to dialing mine in. Cheers, Tony
  6. Whilst not ideal the key is recognising and acknowledging that you are responsible and accountable for your own safety and that of others, no your limitations, don't hurry, don't take short cuts and work a system that places a emphasis on risk management.
  7. Whats the advantage besides bot crowding the biner as much?
  8. That's a good idea, takes one more bit of slop out. Cheers, Tony
  9. This clip from Donny Coffey? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhjrvBKo5Z8]Walking Hitch Hiker - YouTube[/ame] I have a chain just never tried it. Makes perfect sense thou, no camed device (I like that idea). Tony
  10. I don't know. It maybe a mental bias. Not being overly experienced, nor a full time climber doesn't help and in the past by default I always grab the RW unless blocking down, at 175 lbs i'm on the heavy side too. I have a 200 ft of Vortex to try, I climbed on some a few months ago and liked the feel, size and low stretch, I have a heap of tree work backed up and a few hitch cords to try with the HH. 10 or 8 mm AP and a fella in the US swears by 8mm HRC. One thing I did notice is that I had more success dialing it in on my old Tach than the replacment Teufelberger length I got, don't ask me why? Cheers, Tony
  11. Right on Adam, that's where I use mine exclusively, I just haven't got it to perform like the wrench yet when getting around. Cheers, Tony
  12. Rain coming here OMTC, working my ding out trying to get some fine weather jobs done before tomorrow. Just hoping the wind holds off today. I to tried Daves setup but couldn't replicate the material to an acceptable working level. I tried rubber belt (to floppy), thicker stuff (to floppy and heavy). Tried some plastic sheet (not flexible enough) etc. I had a loop made of plastic coated small SS cable with the tight eyes swagged but the eyes got chewed up in the biner slot thus the 6mm cord was the next move. A fella on the buzz, 'moss', makes some real nice stuff, mines just a rough one that does the job. Cheers, Tony
  13. Maybe look at filling the guts of the ZK1 just forward the tether as a stopper instead of the stopper being on the tether. Push bike tube or similar comes to mind wrapped tightly around the tether end of the wrench as a test then if AOK heat shrink something a little more permanent in place ie a block of rubber or silicon. As for the sideways slop some packers ie polyurethane round bar is easy to get a hold of, shape and work with. Just a thought. Cheers Tony
  14. Hi OMTC, can you expand on the reasons its better and safer? I tried advancing from the bridge ring but had alot of flop requiring manual setting at the end of each ascent. I would be interested in a pic of your set up. If you have the Oxan captured on your bridge ring is there still not a risk of it disorientating in the HH (sideloading) when not loaded? Just trying to get my head around it mate. Cheers, Tony
  15. I've left it temporarily adjustable (long tail) on the usually fixed knot side whilst I do the R&D. Cheers, Tony
  16. I am sorting out a bit of gear and quickly TDS this as a demo. See how it goes sometime this week.
  17. Your welcome Adam, watch the tether loop length, make sure it can't hook over the top of the HH body, a tip Dave (D Mc) passed on a while back. Cheers mate, Tony
  18. In my case the tending tether has tight eyes around the biner, this and the loop means it acts as a stopper on the spine side.
  19. I ran 10mm AP briefly the other day on a radiata removal. I didn't get a real chance to evaluate it as the HH was my choked Back up whilst on spikes the little check I did weighting etc at ground held me no probs. Like Ben says its tight to get through the dog bone but I found it relatively easily achievable with the following. Using small dia poly cotton I whip and lock the ends tight after milking the slack out of the 10 mm AP cover, the end I thread with gets the whip an 1&1/2" odd up the cord, the core removed from the end almost back to this whip (1&1/4 or so) to create a tapper in the cover, then the end whipped/locked and dipped in an epoxy to harden it creating a inch long tappered hardened starter. With a little wriggling it works for me and I've used it on all the 10mm cords I've played with. If anyone that give the 10mm AP a crack I would be interested in your feedback. Cheers, Tony
  20. "Build it and they will come", I love that saying and live by it. Cheers Tony
  21. Next years a while away, it will be interesting to see what alternatives are available from competitors when Petzl get around to releasing there new mechanical hitch. One way to boost the appeal is to design and rate it around SRTWP and not just DRT. Regards, Tony
  22. Ta, any lifting equipment has both in service and periodic inspections. As the attached link infers, no easy answer where Australian Standards are applied. As for PPE ie harnesses etc some companies have there own regulations but generally in service inspections are performed by the user (its to their advantage) and gear is retired (destroyed) once its end date is reached (or a few years after) How often to inspect lifting gear? - Nobles | Lifting and Rigging Suppliers
  23. I guess the Finish R&D didn't extend to 700 odd HP applying tension whilst anchored through a bogged, vacuumed in truck/trailer. What a hemorrhage of fluids though.:
