  1. 20 acres, Permitted development for 6x12m timber frame barn. No probs!
  2. Hi. What was the outcome of this one then?? :-)
  3. Kevinjohnsonmbe Keep at it. I'm interested to hear the response about why it's being felled.
  4. Redevelopment of the site. Shocking to see an old beauty like this come down.
  5. Who's started cutting yet then?
  6. Cat owners think it's fine to let their cat out to **** wherever it pleases, and never pick up the poo. If I did that with my dog, I'd be considered very antisocial. Far too many cats, not enough song birds.
  7. @openspaceman Loving your words. Especially the last bit. So true!
  8. Any pics of the hedge after a season?? Would be good to see!
  9. Once you start to make a list of all the costs through the year - insurance, fuel, repairs, holidays, time off for illness, spares, tax, training, first aid courses etc etc etc, - then you start to realise that it makes sense to charge a decent rate, maybe £140 for yourself(as you're just starting out), and £80 for your mate, but only pay him the £60, if that's what he wants. I realised that you make your real money employing others, but remember that you take responsibility for all their actions!!
  10. I am picking up my new BCS flail mower in the next week or so. Based in Devon/Somerset. Fully insured, and experienced. Already doing Rights of way work for Devon County Council, as well as scrub clearance, fencing, chainsaw work, and repairs/installations for Exeter City Council Countryside service, and work for local private estates. Available for more of the same. Rates to compete!
  11. Hi. I am looking for someone to help me felling and extract some large trees over the winter. My woods are in Somerset, and access is ok, but not brilliant. Some trees on the flatter ground, but some on steep clay slope, so would be needing reasonable size tractor/winch i guess? There is some lovely timber in there, and it would need to be done carefully to protect the ground flora as much as poss. I am in the process of getting a felling licence, so that should be all legal. Anyone who wants to get in touch, then you can call on 07957567374. I am looking for someone with the right experience, equipment and attitude for this job. Please bear this in mind before calling. Some of these trees are big and valuable, so they deserve skills! Many thanks Francis
  12. Well, he offered me £50-£55 for it as it is. I worked out its 8.4 hoppus ft, which means that he has offered nearly £6/hoppus ft. It has a gentle sweeping curve, which is what he needed for a cruck. Thanks for the advice. Reckon I should have shook on it there and then, but you are always learning. Will post if he buys it.
  13. Hi. I have been offered £5/ft3 for a piece of oak, 12ft long, 41'' circ. It seems too low. It's felled and by the ride, so easy to pick up. Anyone got an idea of prices at the moment? Cheers.
