  1. There's talk of there being a group being formed through the South of England Hedgelaying Society, Apparently a few of the members are interested. One of them was round my house this week telling me all about. Definetly worth a look.
  2. I've used Corona loppers for the past few years and found them to be best. I used them for hedgelaying and they gothrough some really thick wood. I prefer by pass type I get a cleaner cut and you dont seem to get the die back on plants like roses.
  3. Its simple if you think somebody is under the influence of anything you challenge them about it. You don't need to be rude or aggresive about just ask them. Generally speaking people will only take offence if there on or had something anyway. Turning up to work under the influence is selfish and stupid. Nobody has the right to put mine or anybody elses safety at risk. If you're not confident enough to challenge somebody that you believe to be unfit for work then you are as culpable as they are.
  4. We always used to use those seaside windbreaks. The type you roll up.
  5. Very few if any of the riders of that era were clean. Teams paid thousands of pounds to team doctors to ensure that drugs were out of the riders systems before major races. Armstrong didn't tell us anything most people didn't already know. If he was going to be fully honest and open he would have named names on the suppliers, what he took and who else was taking drugs. IMO it was a PR stunt that told us a little as possible in order not effect his career.
  6. Thanks Chris. Yeah it was a hard days work TBH but enjoyable. It didn't stop raining all day and was bleeding cold. The guy (a close friend of mine to make it worse) who beat me was more consistant with his cuts overall. I'm looking forward to revenge at the open on the 23rd though. Have you entered?
  7. Today's efforts. Got me a 2nd in the South of England improvers comp today.
  8. Yeah there come in handy when your working the wrong side of a barb wire fence. Thanks for the positive comments. To be fair I lay with the South of England Society who have a number of National champions on the training team so you tend to learn good habits quickly as they don't hold back if you've got bad ones.
  9. Thanks.I really enjoyed doing them. The top hedge was on the edge of a field that because of the weather resembled something from the Western Front.
  10. A few pics of my hedgelaying
  11. I took this on when I was out last week
  12. We used to use English woodlands based in Heathfield Sussex.Good range of trees from saplings upwards www.ewburrownursery.co.uk/
  13. The reason open prisons exist is to allow for a gradual reintergration of long sentenced (10 years+) and low security risk prisoners into society. This includes day release for work, probation or home visits. You cant escape from them only adscond as they are unlocked from about 7 till 2200hrs and have very little in the way of physical security measures.Any prisoner can be eligable for D cat status (open conditions) irrespective of crimes. It is determined by many factors including risk of escape.Hope this at least clarifies how this happened.
  14. Thanks for that Hedgesparrow.I'll do that.I've only been laying for a couple of years as a member of South of England Hedgelayers and as most of them use old tools I'll give it ago.
  15. why on erth would anybody allow anyone on site if they've put anything stronger then caffeine in their system. Its really simple do drugs then f**k off and work for somebody else.About 10 years ago I caught one of labourers I was in charge of smoking weed on site.He became aggresive with me when I challenged him about it.So I rang the bosses who told me I was to dismiss him immediately.Which I did. Then because of his attitude I told him I wasn't taking him back to the yard and promptly left him 20 miles from home. When his mum rung me and complained about I told her why and she went mad.
  16. Elwell 4lb side axe and I brought myself a new Morris devon pattern billhook from toolnut.co.uk which has done surprisingly well
  17. I'd fully endorse the use of mulching decks. The company I sub for went over to mulching decks 3 years ago on all their machinery(ride on and walk behind) and have never looked back. The grass on all the sites looks healthier and stronger. The trick is to cut the grass regularly and you'll never tell the differance between mulch and cut and collect.
  18. Creatines biggest side effect is additional strain on your organs as it diverts fluids away from them into your muscle tissue. Hence the apparent growth you get. It's been banned in the U S as its been linked to liver and kidney problems.Eating more red meats is a better way of getting your creatine fix
  19. If your that stupid you dont deserve to breed
