  1. do stags all come out on the same day??? i rarely see them, only 4 or 5 times in my life yet just saw up to 10 flying about in mine and my neighbours garden at the same time. is tonight the lucky night for all these males?
  2. well it isn't going to last forever if it's time to go, it's time to go...
  3. well no one guessed correctly for the last one, it's bubinga
  4. it's not both the lignum types is it??? if not i'll have to say a madagascan rosewood and possibly ramin. if it's none of those then i'll have to concede...
  5. is the dark one a eucalyptus? i'm going to guess butternut for the pale one.
  6. not sapelle
  7. for me it will have to be chocolate as my dad worked at the mars factory in slough. also in the same factory, warm opalfruits. cant beat that. the smell of the chalet as we opened it up in the spring.
  8. no it isn't. what iroko you been working with beau. i've never seen red iroko before.
  9. i did say it's african... no it's not teak...
  10. is it chechen? also called black poison wood. let me know the continent and i should be able to tell you.
  11. correct, no 6 is beech. ok guys just no 3 to go now, remember that it's african and its hard stuff too, very decorative.
  12. if someone can propagate a large tree with no fluting of major defects then they are on to a winner. the problem with robinia is it often flutes too much to be of use on a large scale and sadly ends up as firewood. it still can be used for posts and would make very good cladding in my opinion but seems to be worth more in a mixed bag of hardwood... are there any tall, wide, unfluted, cylindrical varieties?
  13. good cause your wrong on both... i did say no 3 is african...
  14. no 6 is not field maple, guess again.
  15. top marks nimby... well almost, there is no ash or mahogany there but you are bang on for 1+2, well done. greenheart and Brazilian cherry (jatoba as i know it) they are. just 3 and 6 to go now, i'll give everyone a last guess and tell you by tonight if no one guesses.
  16. it's not kauri. to narrow it down, 1 and 2 are south american. number 3 is african and number 6 is english.
  17. forthe dark wood walnut would be an obvious guess but it could be santos rosewood or even indian rosewood. any of those correct? for the pale timber i'm going to guess ash or elm.
  18. no 6 is not ash nut no 8 is oak, well guessed sir... that's 4 down, 4 to go... no chippy guess again mate...
  19. well that's 4,5 and 7 guessed, can anyone guess the other 5? .
  20. give the man a gold star, hornbeam it is...
  21. no no no. try again.
  22. correct again. wenge is fourth from left, well done sir. wrong on the other guess though.
