  1. So to run the 3/8th on 18" I will need new bar chain & sproket? Will that make it cut faster?
  2. Hi all, had 550xp for 3 months, it wouldn't start last week so gone up to fr Jones, when it comes back my mate is buying it, he's in love with it, as I needed a ground saw asap went into local dealers and got the 550xp bigger brother, the 560xp, I went for standard 15" bar and .325 chain, It seems to be an uneven match, the engine seems to big for the .325 chain, Just want to know wat other people are using. Josh.
  3. no mate i mean just one rope one end , with no strop etc so just 1 prussik
  4. I was subcontracting, on tuesday to a new bloke, his main climber was using just one main 45m line with a prussik, he is a extremly good climber with years and years of climbing experience and previous to his 20+ years of tree work clibed rock & ice, He is off to Morrocco next week for a two week stint of rock climbing, so you get my point a very experienced climber, but... obviously if you only have one rope evrytime you change anchor point you are effectivly dissconnected from the tree meaning if you slipped or whatever its possibly game over:confused1: i asked him why he climbs this way and sometimes he does use a second small strop or flipline but moat of the time just one line. im just curious if anyone else climbs like this or has seen anyone climb like this? thanks josh

  10. Hi all, been a busy day today, quoting/paperwork this morning, then 3 and a half loads of logs this afternoon, 1st load went sweet, 2nd load was on route, however road was blocked by a fallen tree, there was a farmer and his workman cutting up this oak & a smallish beech next to it, I said to the farmer "do you want a hand to clear it mate" he said " no, go around the other way:001_rolleyes:" I then Said " well up to you, i need to get through to deliver the logs and im a tree surgeon, got my saws in the back" he smiled, looked at his pal and said grab your saw them BUY, about 45mins later the trees were logged up & he let me take away the timber I cut, was doing it out of good heart but he let me have some oak. He thanked me and shook my hand and said he would pass my card onto the landowner, so well chuffed, 3 & 1/2 loads of logs got delivered and the farmer was happy:thumbup1: just shows sometimes a little kindness can go a long way.!! josh

  20. yes, its another consideration, as for today we were pulling logs home with mates l200 & trailer would not have been able to do this without 4wd!!
  21. thanks mate, thats the kind of help i was looking for
  22. thanks mate
  23. Hi all, I posted a thread a while ago (which arb truck would suit me?? ideas and tips). I'm still undecided and need a new vehicle so any help will be VERY GRATEFULLY RECEIVED!! Anyway, I've now been self employed for 10 months and my poor little van is really starting to struggle with the work load. I currently have a Peugeot 106 1.5 diesel van with mesh trailer that is cheap and economical to run but is small and very underpowered. Its time to move on to a bigger better vehicle. I can't make my mind up whether to go for a 4x4 or tipper. Quite a lot of my work is subbing for other tree surgeons so I guess the 4x4 would be better for this, as it would hold a load of logs, have 4WD, do well for most applications and if a crew cab was bought valuables could go in behind back seats with high sides put on back to collect chip/brash. with the possibility of a Pro tipper in time. I wouldn't really want to be running around in a big transit on a daily basis. however you would have tipping facility and room to hold S**T loads of logs and chip but I've been in transits/ivecos/cabstars when then have got stuck on grass trying to tip chip, not good!! As I can only afford to run one vehicle I need to make the right decision first time!!! I've read countless threads on arb vehicles etc but still can't make my mind up. My work breaks down into tree surgery, tree felling, hedge cutting, hedge laying, landscaping and logs. It appears to me that running costs are similar whether you go for a tranny style tipper or 4x4. so which set-ups do you people have? I GUESS I'M LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO - - carry at least a tonne - look presentable - pull a trailer with ease - carry minimum of 2 people - have room for tool storage - be suitable for shooting/hunting outside of work - have mpg of at least 30 - be narrow enough for our country lanes - and most importantly be reliable. Most of my jobs are small, when I get big jobs I just get somebody in with a suitable vehicle. so I'm swinging towards a club cab 4x4 at the moment with chequer plate high sides. Then I guess its personal preference whether you go for L200, ranger, isuzu, hilux or Landy hi cap. So please can you help/advise me on which set-ups you run and why, I'm happy to listen to the people with more experience in tree work than me. THANKS JOSH
  24. thanks, well its worth a try, my main advertising is all the local mags, etc, when i get around to making my website i will ad adwords thanks
