  1. Had a look around the auction today. Bejeez, there’s some serious money laid out in those fields!
  2. Seen some of them and agreed, he’s got a fair chip on both shoulders ? Careful referencing YouTube as a source though, Vesp used to get a (often justifiable) lashing for leaning heavily upon a single source ??
  3. Yes, I thought that after posting and whilst on a (rate) drive to Plymuff. It’s certainly hereabouts now. Later than elsewhere perhaps, but very noticeable. All very well for QUANGOs to issue guidance to industry about minimising spread, but where were the pseudo authorities when prevention might have been better than minimising spread?
  4. Moving log / wood is assessed as low risk of spreading the infection. Moving large volume of chip might not be quite so good.... https://www.forestresearch.gov.uk/tools-and-resources/pest-and-disease-resources/chalara-ash-dieback-hymenoscyphus-fraxineus/chalara-manual-2-managing-ash-trees-and-woodland-including-logs-and-firewood/
  5. Have you got that the right way round me ol’ Scrambled Egg??
  6. Don't worry about falling out, seriously, I'm not Labour / Momentum... It really IS OK to have a discussion and start with differing points of view. I prefer it that way (as Eggs would say - I could have an argument in phonebook (esp if the phone was disconnected)). Way I see it is there's little point having a discussion with someone that agrees... It would just be a nodding session ? In the case of the miscreant diner, staff could have "asked" for verification of name and address, they could also "demand" it - but that's not to say there is any obligation upon the miscreant diner to provide it. Anyone can "ask" whatever they like, even the Rozzers can't "demand" information (except in very limited and well defined situations) and they become even further denuded after arrest (if that is the way things progress.) People, generally, are far too compliant with pseudo authority that seeks to exert powers they do not inherently have.
  7. You've all got to moderate your language.... What they actually mean is - you have to do as we say, not as we do....
  8. I did consider that before posting.... But.... If the terms of the contract are not clearly displayed and easily understood it would probably be void in any case. The thread made me think of a circumstance one of my restaurant owning acquaintances related a while back. Chap came in, took a table, had a steak dinner and a bottle of wine - a thoroughly enjoyable meal by all accounts - took the bill and made to leave. When challenged he simply said “I’ll send you a cheque idc” Nothing they could do. Apparently, he was touring Cornwall on the same gig.
  9. Quite right to, a perfectly reasonable action on your part. Where on earth did the store clerk think they had suddenly gained the power to detain you? Ive done it myself but common sense and being acquainted with the store staff was perfectly adequate to allow me to pop back later and settle up. It’s what any decent person would do. That naturally leads on to those that might try it on purpose. When you consider the turnover of some fuel stations, it’s peanuts. Maybe different for your smaller / independent but still, not a police matter (quite rightly) unless aggravated. Its only an an assumption that payment is at point of delivery. You could just as well say - give me an invoice and I’ll settle in due course. Stay there and wait for a debt recovery agent, and pay for the ‘service’, you did well not to laugh in his/her face!
  10. I doff my cap to you Sir, a valid and appropriate point you make, as always ?? Neither question is any less relevant than the other of course...
  11. You’ve a heart of gold ??s finding a feel good story amongst such desperate circumstances. Myself, on the other hand, and whilst listening to the details of the extensive inter departmental government repatriation scheme, couldn’t help but hope that somewhere amongst all that inter departmental cooperation there is the capability to identify and recover the cost of repatriation from those that might have funded their foreign holiday off the back of the tax I have to pay to provide their gyro. If they ain’t “available to work” because they are toasting their buns and quaffing indecent quantities of sangria whilst I’m busting my tits in the rain, I’d like to think they might have had the decency and integrity to have ‘signed off’ prior to departure.
  12. Hopefully there might be a re-think of the implications of this policy stance given the quality and quantity of user feedback. We live in hope. Should that hat not be the case - and the situation is ratified - it would be an interesting first attempt at investigation / prosecution from HSE. The 37 pages of input here, the Nelsonian blind eye of the pseudo industry body over the preceding years (most notably including the “gold standard” accreditation scheme) the failure to adapt training schedules to accurately reflect policy by LANTRA / NPTC, the apparent extrapolation of unreliable / unrelated accident stats by HSE as justification for the policy and the defendants RAMS explaining why single rather than x2 rope & TIP was employed. Lets hope it doesn’t have to get so far as investigation / prosecution before it is recognised as being a poorly considered policy. If it does, there’s a substantial body of evidence to present a counter argument.
  13. Absolutely agree Alex! A useful tool that would be!! RDPE funding, its called ‘Leader’ roundabouts these parts, may have other names elsewhere would be an interesting case study. How much tut was made available, how much has been allocated, how much have the admin costs been and what evidence is there that some of the blatantly hair brained schemes have delivered stated outcomes.
  14. Happened across this by chance and found it to be a good deal more user friendly than the previous search engine. http://cap-payments.defra.gov.uk/Search.aspx Just shared in case it might be useful for 'discussions down the pub' etc...
  15. Fancied a couple of packs of these but I'm wary of putting £10k on the plastic for something that might come in handy one day... I s'pose you could register the day before and leave it hang on the credit card for a month so long as they don't drag their feet reimbursing it.
  16. Yome right Matthew! Just called them. They will debit £10k to your credit card on the day you register and you can either have it back after (less any purchases) or have it transferred to their next auction. It was a bit tricky trying to get a straight answer from chummy, but that's what he confirmed. I said: "...you're telling me, that I have to give you £10k just to be able to bid on something that may (or may not) make £300..?" "...Yep..." he said. "...Good luck with that I said...."
  17. My account has gone live on EuroAuction but when you click register to bid you go to T&Cs page, click the link for T&Cs and it returns an error code. I haven't accepted T&Cs yet because I can't access them ?
  18. I didn’t have to put anything down, that said, I haven’t logged on for a week or more so haven’t checked for a while. There was no mention of pre-credit when I submitted. I’ll have to check again now!
  19. 10 mins up the road from me! I’m registered to bid and keeping a keen eye on a few lots!!
  20. Are you saying that you wouldn't s211 notice for tree work within an AONB Jules??? (reaches for books....)
  21. And that was a helluva party as memory serves.....?
