  1. Society would have been better served if the whole mob had been cut in half with a chainsaw. That’d be a good start.
  2. Making the news or jokes thread.... Jokes thread or making the news thread.... Choices, choices:
  3. I had every expectation that it’d descend into a farce pretty quickly - truth be told, I had certain folk in mind ? - but I am genuinely shocked at your contribution K. I’m recalibrating my usual high regard for your input as I type. Mr B, no panic mucker, we’re about where we were before ? (that’s Mr Bowlam not Mr Bullman!)
  4. I'd question your use of "only" No doubting the precision, it's just that everything else that is a cluster. It's the clusters I want somebody to spot and avoid. There's also the Bartletts vid which is the other option but it's too distant to see much of the useful detail.
  5. I realise this may have some potential for going hysterically off-topic, but does anyone have a picture example of a worksite (preferably sector specific but not essential) where there are a number of H&S or general poor site management issues. It's for an interview so that I can lay it on the table and ask the candidate to highlight any issues they may see as being inappropriate and describe the reasons why.
  6. Parish council are several months behind in publishing minutes so, whilst it was on the agenda, can't even see if it was effectively discussed there. Not withstanding the tree owner may be happy with the outcome, it's a very poor example of process.
  7. UTT/19/2228/TPO | Fell 1 no. Walnut tree | Walnut Cottage Chelmsford Road White Roding CM6 1RF PUBLICACCESS.UTTLESFORD.GOV.UK That's about the most disappointing example of an apparent lack of interest in TPO process from the Tree & Planning officers as I can recall having recently seen.
  8. I'm just guessing, but I'd say the lines that are marked up on the picture probably represent where you have an aspiration to instal patio doors / conservatory - maybe PD, maybe planning app? That's absolutely an assumption / question on my part. Assuming that to be the case, I'd doubt that the 'proximity' issue you mention is the actual reason for the removal since the tree appears to be in good order, well maintained, not particularly imposing and proximity has not been an issue for all of the trees former existence. I'd stress that this is just an assumption on my part based upon what can be seen in the picture you posted. If I'm off the mark, no offence intended. If I'm not, you'll get best feedback when being straight up with people. Just seen the other post: which gives more detail and specifies that planning consent has indeed been granted. Bit surprised by that. Any chance you could post the planning reference so we can have a look at the AIA?
  9. But, on a brighter note, government age verification aspirations for tinterweb porn has been binned ???
  10. And a Laurel sprig up their ‘Arris ??
  11. They were all roundly condemned in the written judgement. Haven’t got a link to it right now (stuck at check in desk with a broken baggage conveyor ?) but it’s a good read!
  12. They tried to tuck him up with the blame so I doubt they’ll rush to share his bill.
  13. It’s good, but only just good enough and still subject to appeal. Hopefully the Trustees of the land where the trees stood will claim for civil loss and will be awarded actually cost of the loss.
  14. As Dianne Abbott might say: ”...even a stopped clock is right 3 times a day...” They might be right one day - but will never be able to celebrate if they were ?
  15. Dutch family 'waiting for end of time' discovered in basement Family 'waiting for end of time' found in basement WWW.BBC.CO.UK A 58-year-old man and six others spent nine years in a secret room at a Dutch farm, reports say. Here’s an odd one... Waiting for Brexit maybe?
  16. I hadn’t heard that, I thought there was a UK case too. Bum sex on a wedding cake - for the love of God and they were offended by being told to Foxtrot Oscar ? talk about unjustifiable sensitivities!
  17. Memory suggests there have been a few cases. The baker that wouldn’t make a cake for a gay wedding. A B&B that wouldn’t allow same sex room sharing. Trouble is, if you say / make it known you ain’t working / providing a service for someone because they are * (select protected characteristic) you wouldn’t have a defence. If it’s just because that particular potential customer comes across as someone you don’t wish to transact with, well that’s just fine and dandy - just don’t mention the protected characteristic! I don’t mind haggling. It goes something like: ”...how much money can you take off...” ”...as much as you want, which bits don’t you want me to do? Call me when you’ve made your mind up...”
  18. “Like” isn’t quite right - agree would be better suited. Turkey - holding the ‘sword of Damocles’ over the EU viz a viz refugees in order to secure funding and political support and taking full advantage of NATO membership whilst contributing next to nothing of any military worth other than geo-strategic coincidence. Maybe if the arms manufacturers and traders stopped making and selling into that region, and the diplomats stopped giving them credence beyond their worth, then we’d all be better off.
  19. Saw this little beaut earlier today:
  20. Quite. Relatively recent and, as is now unfolding, probably more trouble than it was worth. Now make the quantum leap forward to Turkey aspiration to join EU and EU desire for ever greater expansion. Anyone see any potential lessons that could be learned from recent (and more distant) history?
  21. As if the arrogance of ‘today’ needed any reminders from history of the inevitable failure of an organisation when it pursues expansion into social, cultural, political, religious domains which are so obviously at odds with the original concepts. The ascension of Turkey & Greece into NATO (in response to short term political threats) despite the obvious historic, political and geographic ineligibilities, and the entirely foreseeable clusterfuck which is unravelling, is a timely a wake up call for Brexit and the EU as ever might be needed. But still the ostriches thrust their heads deeper into the ground.
