  1. We were all new to the job once, and I think we all continue to learn new methods from helpful old hands Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  2. Should you need any advice from a professional woodcutter, I am based near you, and although I'm away all week I'm home at weekends and would gladly pop down to see you. You'll probably find that the most important training for chainsaw use will cost you a lot less than you think and the peace of mind it gives you will make it worth every penny. I would strongly advise against training via you-tube as there are some serious muppets putting "training" videos on there. Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  3. Mine were delivered last week, but I haven't made it home yet to collect them - maybe next weekend if I'm lucky! Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  4. I know the cold and rain has affected the bees this year ( they can't fly in the rain and don't go out much under 15 degrees). Considering how much they say we need the bees that could be the reason. Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  5. Unless those children are extremely small then the beech burr is indeed much bigger! Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  6. Oh look - there's the first one too! Isn't technology marvellous Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  7. I've had another try! Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  8. I can't see it now either, or anybody else's. Best get it moved off the picture forum then! If it doesn't reappear tomorrow I'll repost. And I don't even know how to get the photo the right way round, let alone photoshop it Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  9. This has to be the biggest burr I've ever seen, on an ash tree in Essex. (Hard hat included to give an idea of scale) It has grown about three quarters of the way round the tree, which isn't in the best of health. Apologies that the picture is sideways - I can't persuade my phone that it needs to be the other way round Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  10. To gain the most advantage from winter/mud tyres, unless you are going for a flotation effect in which case they will need to be massive, I would have thought the narrower the better. This enables them to cut in and would gain the most benefit from the more aggressive tread. Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  11. I am a bit of a specialist on 346XP/357XPs so if you are stuck...... PM sent! Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  12. I assume then that if I can't adjust it up within the limits of the limit cap that the problems is not a simple tweaking of the carb, and as I'm in the field a strip down of the carb myself would be unwise, especially as I'm not familiar with the job and have no spares beyond filters and plug Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks for all suggestions. When I changed the fuel filter I failed to notice that the fuel line was soft, but now you've mentioned it...... It isn't the auto decomp model, but is different to the other 357xp on site in that the low mix screw is a plastic thingy which goes about half a turn lock to lock. Will probably have to put it in somewhere as I'm "in the field" and need it back asap. I'll let you know what they find. Thanks again Rob Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  14. That's what I was thinking, stale fuel gumming up the carb. Not sure why it was running fine earlier but not now though. Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  15. I've today started using my saw after resting it's a while (3 months, a brief use then another 6 week rest). Drained old fuel and filled up with fresh and it's started and range fine. As the day has gone by it's has got slower and slower on pick-up and cut out when idling. Now will only start on choke and won't tickover at all. Air filter is clean, new spark plug fitted and new fuel filter fitted (the old one was yellowy browny). Seems like a blocked L jet to me. Any other suggestions? Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  16. Evening all. I discovered this via a friend this evening, and it looks a bit worrying. Hope I'm not breaching any rules posting this link. Armageddon | www.the-ace.org.uk
  17. Ordered some tree marker paint last week. It was delivered within 24hours. Fantastic service - thanks to all involved!
  18. Available until September. Will stay in digs/caravan if the job warrants it. PM me with any details. Sent from my Galaxy SII using Tapatalk
  19. Just had a reply to my query on this subject from Avon Cooper tyres. Their technical department has said that their Discoverer STT, which I find are superb tyres, will be compliant in most sizes.
  20. My nephew ordered some kit off them a while back, then cancelled after 2 weeks when it hadn't arrived. It arrived about 5 days later. The "Husqvarna" forestry helmet he ordered was an orange hard hat with a Husqvarna aticker on, and more scratched and battered than one I'd been using for a month. 21. CPCs are probably available over the counter at most Post Offices in former Soviet-bloc European countries. I know ADR ( hazpac) licences are. Sent from my GT-I9100P using Tapatalk 2
  22. Available in 2-3 weeks ( end of July )
  23. Try one of these! It'll keep you dry, and not so expensive you lose sleep over it if you trash it! Ebay no 110880042230
  24. I've heard of them doing 400k +, so you should be fine. Change the oil regularly, cambelt every 4-5 years and it shouldn't give you too many problems. And avoid cheap parts for it - I won't mention names, but a 2 year warranty makes them look tempting! (I had a lift pump fail after 4 days!)
  25. Sounds like everyday forestry work. Getting 500 trees out in 4 weeks shouldn't pose too much of a problem unless there are serious access issues. I can also provide the cutters and extraction to roadside should you require it on a per tonne basis. Please PM me if interested.
