  1. Sorry haven't looked at the video, but I always followed the RHS guidelines from their small pruning book, which is pretty much summarised here; https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=242 I think Wisteria is like roses, best pruned by anyone else but the owner, who is scared to get stuck in to do what's needed.
  2. Fixed that for you. I tried to get clarification on the definition of what constitutes a garden a while back. Is it a wooded garden, a big garden with lots of trees or a wood? Initially, when push comes to shove, the WO will decide and then take the appropriate action. Then I suppose a judge decides what’s what. When the legal definition of a tree is sketchy, forget a simple answer for a garden with trees.
  3. I've gone the same way, but with a pre-owned phone. Quids in after a couple of months.
  4. Wish I’d never asked!
  5. So if my chain snaps, has it braked or broken?
  6. Spend it on travelling
  7. I’ve seen the reported actual test and reckon most eight year olds would pass it. Funnily enough, most of his tweets appear to have been composed by someone of a similar age group.
  8. That Donald passed? I admit I did find that surprising. Or everything else written about him?
  9. So Potus has passed a cognitive test! I think I'm now more concerned that it's been shown that he isn't suffering from some form of disassociation, than I was before.
  10. Our cats rarely wake up when I get up. But should the missus get up, they crowd around their food bowls screaming for food and then smirking as I get moaned at cos I haven’t noticed that they’re all starving and wasting away through malnourishment. I know that they do it on purpose
  11. Looks like some advanced decay in some very very big roots. Was there any FFBs visible?
  12. Pink protectors
  13. Thinking about this, would you be better substituting Ganoderma for Fistulina? It it would be interesting to see which of the three prevent/reduce regrowth and decay the stems quickest. Might be better to leave an inoculated ‘control’ as well for comparison.
  14. Fistulina might be a waste of time, It's slowly pathogenic ( although on trees with high tannin content) and I not sure, but I don't think it's commitment may found on willow.
  15. Think that’s the one in Vesp’ s kitchen..
  16. Absolutely, totally imperative to be able to do your job efficiently...
  17. Have you tried browns at bury? Or treestation in Manchester?
  18. Got this booked today. I don’t know if the booking forms are in circulation generally but if you expressed interest through the links above to Symbiosis, they are sending them out.
  19. This saga is moving on..... It looks like the tree will end up getting felled, but questions are coming in about taking cuttings. (started another thread in landscaping about that) But in the last email was this; What would you say is the approximate weight of the tree ? Someone has suggested utilising a helicopter to my dad ………it sounds crazy to me Edit; Turns out that there is a local helicopter company that do do under-slung lifts, so I need to now start to calculate some estimates of the likely load. Always something different in Arb
  20. Anyone tried this successfully? I've been trying to arrange to transplant a 30+ft tree, but for access and other reasons, it's not going to happen. It now looks like it's going to have to come down and I've been asked about propagating it. I came across this: Cuttings:Take cuttings from the current year's growth using semi-ripe or ripewood. Use only a leading or main shoot not a lateral shoot. Various cuttings from different parts of the tree will produce plants of various habits. A leading shoot will produce a plant that grows straight upward.Take 6" cuttings, from one year old growth, from summer until just before growth resumes in Spring. Midwinter and mid autumn are ideal times to make cuttings. You should use peat, perlite, conifer bark or mixtures of these with coarse sand in equal parts for the rooting medium. The cuttings may require bottom heat and plastic film over them - both common strategies for propagation - see gardening books for details. You should see growth by the summer. This is enough information to get you started. Take cuttings from the current year's growth using semi-ripe or ripewood. Use only a leading or main shoot not a lateral shoot. So it looks like a) they're not to easy to get to strike, and b) there's only one shoot on the entire tree that's usable to create a new tree? I've also read that they coppice freely from the stump. This isn't something I've ever seen, so anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking that if it coppices there's more material to propagate from with an upright form.
  21. Lots of people say they have. researching on line gives two totally opposing camps of yes and no, they don’t move well.
  22. Now you've had some practice, do you care to have a go at mine? The stem is a bit short of metre through and the root plate stands about 9ft high. And we can't get a crane in
  23. Just to update this thread. I ended up contacting Civic trees and putting them in touch with the client. I can't remember the quote, it wasn't cheap but adding up everything we'd have to hire in and arrange it wasn't too bad. The client seems to have moved on with Civic, but after sending videos of the available routes between the current location and the proposed one, Civic say that its probably logistically impossible. Anyone ever had a quote on a Chinook helicopter? Just thinking outside of the box, like.
  24. I'm a wimp, I want my bed and it's 2 AM. Never, ever, promise to do something for someone when realistically it means working half the night to do so.
  25. Only 1-2m above ground level reductions.
